“What are you doing?!” shouted Eric Smythe. “Get away from there!”

“It’s not here, is it?” asked Jake who was frantically pulling apart a pile of computers and phones which were stacked against the wall.

“What are you talking about? Have you lost something? Your phone? Maybe your mind?” Eric muttered the last part almost to himself.

“Yes. I’ve lost a door!” said Jake. “On Lapine Death Corps there is a door here. Why isn’t there one?”

“Are you sure Jakey?” asked Leina who had come out of the office to see what all the fuss was about. “I’ve been here for years and I’ve never seen a door. It’s always just been the charging pile.”

“Yes! There is definitely a door here on Lapine Death Corps. Come and see!”

Leina didn’t need much encouragement to follow Jakey into his office. Despite his constant rejection of her advances she still adored him. This time, he was so absorbed in the mystery of the extra door in the computer game that he didn’t even register her attempts to sit on his lap until it was too late.

“Oh yes, you’re right,” she said, trying to put her arm around his neck.

“Of course I’m right,” he said indignantly, pushing her arm away and trying to shift unsuccessfully under her more than ample bottom.

“I can’t be bothered with this,” said Eric who had followed them to Jake’s office. “I’m not even Crawkling anyway, why do I care?”

Both Jake and Leina looked at him quizzically.

“I’m going for a drink,” he announced and strode out of the room.

The awkward silence was broken when Jake remembered Leina’s description of the door-less wall.

“Hang on, what did you mean by charging pile?”

“You know,” she replied. “It’s where we put all of our devices for charging.”

“Take me back,” he insisted, really meaning please get off me.

“Oh, but Jakey, it’s so nice sitting here with you.”

Jake did his best not to wretch, or cry. He was getting slightly better at social interaction but he still couldn’t cope with girls.

“Please, Leina..” he almost begged.

Leina could see that it would get her some brownie points if she helped him, so she jumped up, dragged him to his feet and dragged him by his arm around the corner.

“I didn’t think I was going mad. They’re not even plugged in!”

Leina nodded. “I know. There’s just something magical about this wall. It’s always been able to do this.”

By this point Jake’s brain cells were whirring round and round. There was something very strange about this wall, and the door that did, or didn’t, lead into it.
