Reskh stared noncommittally at his meal, it struggled and screamed, wailed even as if it was expecting someone to hear and come to its rescue, Reskh simply stared from the darkness, he hated that earthy smell that followed these creatures everywhere, he could see the creature clearly courtesy of his see in the dark vision, he couldn’t say the same about his meal, it looked absolutely unaware of his presence
“It’s no use struggling” he said tiredly, the routine was boring, soon he’d hear about all the gold he’d be given if he let the creature go
“Who’s there?” the creature snarled
“…” he refused to dignify the question with a reply
“My team is still around, they’ll find you and rescue me and…”
Reskh sighed then interrupted
“They’re dead”
“w-what do you mean they’re dead”
“…”
“I'm going to kill you!!! You hear me!!!”
“How are you going to do that?” Reskh mused
“You!..”
“I didn’t kill them”
“Liar!!!” the creature spat
“Humans…’ Reskh muttered, god did he hate this specie, more than all the others they had taken everything from him and then pointed their fingers at him, blamed his kind for their misfortune, he wouldn’t mind cooking one of them for dinner unfortunately he was out of wood so he’d have to wait till after the storm which was raging, so he was stuck with the annoying boy
“I found you passed out in a clearing”
“Why am I tied down?” the human asked finally calming down
“Safety” Reskh said simply
“Don’t worry no harm will come to you”
“I was talking about you”
“I'm a knight in the kings army…well one of the knights in training but I'm going to be the greatest knight ever, even the king will have to acknowledge me, what do you think could pose a threat to me?” the boy boomed
“Whatever knocked you out in the forest" was what Reskh wanted to say instead he sighed
“Those are some really big aspirations”
“well my dad said if you’re going to dream might as well dream big”
Reskh blinked wandering what father would let his son join the king’s army at the age the human boy looked

“Where’s he?”
“Gone” the human whispered
“What happened?”
“He was killed by a daemon”
“Oh” Reskh said and looked away, his kind had been known to engage in brawls with humans, and casualties were inevitable, so why did he feel guilt. It was the same way he humans killed his parents.
“Step into the light” the human said hopefully
“Why?”
“So I can see my savior and captor” the boy laughed, he lay close to the entrance of the cave, the light from the mouth of the cave illuminating the area around him
“No”
“Why not?” the human whined
“Because”
“That’s not a reason”
“It is not” Reskh agreed
“Please…”
“No” Reskh repeated
“Fine, whatever…”
“…” he sits on the hard cave floor, his back against the wall
“Why do you live in a cave?” the human boy spoke after a few seconds
“It’s the last place they’ll search”
“They?”
Reskh rested his head on the wall and closed his eyes, the human boy rolled over to his side trying to see into the darkness, he gives up after squinting and closes his eyes
“your kind” Reskh whispers into the silent cave when he is sure the human boy is asleep, he cranes his neck to study the human then yawns, he gets up from his resting position and walks away from the cave, he shivers while he braves the storm but doesn’t want to return to the cave, he’s lost his appetite for human flesh.
The captive woke up to the scent of something cooking, he wiggled trying to get free then pouts when he realizes he is tied down securely, he hears clattering from the other end of the cave
“Hellooooo” he coos
“You’re giving me a headache” came the reply
“Hmmm I thought I’d be dead by morning”
“another word and you will be”
“I'm scared” he said his voice thick with sarcasm
“…”
“What do you want from me?”
“Nothing”
“Then why am I still alive?”
“I don’t know” his captive sounded confused
“Could you may be cut me loose”
“No”
“Why?”
“Like I said, for your safety”
“You keep saying that” he rolled his eyes

He heard the footsteps and then suddenly he was on his feet, he feet were dangling above ground and a hand was around his throat, he was slammed into the wall and he gasped, his captive had cold blue eyes, jet black hair and horns that were about six inches long, curved black horns that made his skin turn cold, his skin was white and a pattern was drawn on the daemons face
“Shut up” the daemon snarled and he froze
It let him drop to the ground rather unceremoniously and walked towards the other side of the cave where a fire was lit, fish was roasting over the fire, the daemon stomped over to the fire and grabbed a fish stick from the fire and sat down, looked over at him then started eating calmly like it was nourishing the food which was impossible, daemons were unintelligent monsters who were created solely for chaos
“You’re a daemon” he stated disbelieving, the daemon paused from eating and shrugged
“You’re human”
“You’re a monster” he snarled
The daemon stared at him for a while then went back to eating
“I'm going to kill you”
“…”
“On my oath to be knight, I’ll kill you if it’s the last thing I do” he spat
The daemon paused from eating again then calmly asked
“Why?”
“You’re a monster!!! Your kind kill, destroy, cause chaos, wherever you go, when I become a trainee I swore to eradicate monsters like you from the face of the earth and that’s what I’ll do”
“You and I are alike”
“I'm nothing like you” he snarled
“We both have goals that seem impossible”
“Don’t talk like you’re human, it disgusts me”
“How else would I talk then?”
“Shut up daemon!!!”
“Reskh”
“what?”
“I have a name, Reskh”
“I don’t care”
“…” Reskh sighed then went back to eating
"What are you going to do to me?" The human hissed
"Like i said…. I don't know" The deamon… Reskh sighed
"Then let me go"
"What's to guarantee you wouldn't try to jump me the moment i do" Reskh arched his eyebrow
"Are you really a deamon?"
"Don't i look like one?" Reskh blinked
"Well… You've got the horns and the mark but you look…Human. I thought deamons were beings so tall they could dwarf castle with pitch black skin and claws and teeth" The human boy said
"Subspecies, there are the Redniers, the devils etc and even then there are different types" Reshk shrugged
"which are you?"
"I'm a halfling"
"A what?"
"Half deamon- half human"
"What!!?"
"Is it that surprising?"
"A human and a deamon. Impossible. Its wrong"
"Why is it wrong?"
"Because its…It's not natural" The human boy scoffed
"My mother was burnt at the stake for loving a deamon and my father was killed long before that, tell me then, was it right for them to die for their love" Reskh eyed the human boy
The boys eyes widened in shock and he froze "I… No"
"But you just said-"
"Shut up! It's… Nobody should die because of their love interest, that's just- "
"Did your father die the same way?"
"No. He died protecting me… From deamons" The boy said quietly
"Well i simply cannot kill you because your kind took everything from me. I suppose its the same with you"
"Don't group me in with you"
"oh?"
"Look, why don't we call it a truce"
"What about your oath?"
"I will kill you. Just - maybe not yet" The boy scowled
"What's your name?"
"Alister" The boy said
"…"
"Can you untie me now?"
"Why?"
"I can't exactly eat tied up"
"You're assuming i made enough for you" Reskh glanced at the boy
"Eh, you didn't!!!" Alister yelled as his stomach rumbled
"Kidding" Reskh said
"Don't ever play with food" Alister narrowed his eyes
Reskh sighed and walked over to his captive, he united the boy and held out a hand, a lister eyed him wearily
"If i wanted you dead, you'd be already" Reskh sighed
"I suppose so" Alister nodded sagely and then grabbed his hand
He was hoisted to his feet in no time and ran over to the fire, picking a fish that was pasting, he licked his lips and bit
"Hot!! Hot!! Hot!! Hot!!"

Matthias is a struggling writer finally able to move into his first solo apartment.
