The young man sitting against the safe zone’s wooden door looked through his notifications again.

He’d been running, hiding, killing and fearing for the life of his family far too much to bother most of the time. It didn’t matter now. Gramps and grams died of poison almost straight away and he had finished off his uncle and mother while they were there on the floor, looking like corpses and being eaten alive.

It would not have mattered even if he had figured out how to heal their flesh that instant, he simply didn’t have enough mana for even one person, nevermind that his body had not been enough to deal with the spiders that’d been upon them and his pool wasn’t full.

Now he couldn’t even cry, but really, that was mostly because he had seared a good portion of his face and most of his hair exploding the main nest by basically dislodging a shit ton of oxygen from the surrounding stones over a long period of time.

When he lit the spark however, there had not been anything he could do about how the flame had turned the small tunel he’d been crawling through face first into a furnace.

A part of him honestly had expected to die there and then as that was part of the plan to begin with, so it was with some puzzlement that he saw that he had somehow developed his fire resistance aplenty.

By following the trend, he could only conclude that his brain had not melted inside his skull because of the combination of Berserker, Arachnid killer and his own ability to make a spell that couldn't actually hurt him without direct orders to do so despite that same property not applying to the environment it created.

It was weird really. Despite the cocktail of emotions he now clearly held, it was like he had gulped down alprazolam and simply compressed them into a ball that would be dealt with later.

Seeing those kill notifications gave him a spike of sadness, but that was soon subjugated by an explosion of rage that quickly started to burn and then suddenly chill every part of his body, like putting water and mint in your mouth then eating several jalapeno peppers, and that cold had him not really feel anything but an urgency for getting to his objective.

At the moment, there was no such objective. Considering he had gained a skill with the name 'Psychopath', the effect was likely something similar to a rage state of sorts.

If he really stopped to think about that then he'd be simply wasting the effect though, because it was obviously the only thing keeping him from being a screaming and crying mess.

He should probably look at his stats again now that he had managed to change his name, it'd probably not cause another five second long panic attack followed by existential dread.

This was… Good? He could probably finish all his paths with his amount of points and since he was in a safe zone he'd be able to train to get the rest if that ended up not being the case.

Telling whether he had average stats or not was hard, except maybe perception which was obviously low, but he honestly had no clue how to gain a class and level up.

Perhaps that was for the best though. Certainly there were paths to be taken which had stats and level restrictions, so it'd be an advantage as long as he could raise his stats in a reasonable time frame.

Starting with the basics, he put points into the newbie path.

After that there was some bullshit blurb about following more paths, but he now had good enough practice in ignoring those.

A good point however, was that he had confirmed that at this point even +1 in any stat made a difference since he could already start seeing better despite having no glasses on. Still blurry, but it'd be fixed if nothing else.

Now he had several other paths to take however. He took the one he wanted to remove from the list the most this time, doing his very best to ignore everything

Interesting. He had expected that one to be about having reached the safe zone despite the situation he found himself at, but at this point he doubted any other path had to do with the situation outside perhaps explorer I, which was so general he'd acquired by exploring the tunnels a bit.

More noteworthy though, was that despite his current circumstances, he had been the first to slay a monster. It'd been a couple of minutes before he had killed his first spider, so that ment one of three things.

It could be that the system had started the planet's initialisation with his house, exactly because of the spatial anomaly it'd hinted at, then taken it's time to integrate the rest, but that was unlikely. Something capable of creating and/or translocating this dungeon was likely an entity on the level of other systems he'd gotten to know in fantasy novels, and even if this was a sham to capture just him for one reason or another, the difference in power would be something he'd not be able to easily surpass either.

He was not egocentric enough to believe this was the case though.

The second possibility was that while he was stuck in a dungeon, the rest of humanity had been sent into a proper tutorial where they were not immediately exposed to dangers.

The third was that dungeons, or even just this one's type, had a time acceleration effect.

That was about it though, as in none of those circumstances could he expect there to be someone coming to help him escape.

Even if this dungeon had been a basic one, it should still take one or more days for people to even consider entering it, but considering he had killed the brood mother and her guard yet not received any notification about defeating a boss or some such, he could hardly believe that the rest of this dungeon was also filled with hundreds of small spiders.

Overall, he'd rate it at around level 35-40 in challenge rate if it was solely a spider cave. Which he doubted was the case if there was a need for hunting specialists in the broad despite their overwhelming numbers.

He was literally gaining points for ignoring the system, which was perhaps a bit funny, but the cold grew with each level as well, and it wasn't like his current focus on the screens had made his mood less terrible.

Perhaps he should look around to see if he could find something to do. Getting a drink from that glowing fountain could not be more of a bad idea than biting poisonous spiders.
