《Transmigrated Author: The Quiet Plum》Chapter 10: You're Predictable

That night, Hong Chun stayed late writing as usual. But as she was in the middle of a complicated part, she lost focus. With her head bowed down, a bit of a smile bloomed.

"You're there." Gentle was her voice when she stated.

The light from the candles flickered and it was Si Hai who came out of the shadows.

He'd been watching her for a while.

And the tranquility present on her whole being whenever she held the brush... it left him wondering if she was the same miss he saw every day.

However, the spell was broken too soon when she opened her mouth.

"Did you only guess?" He too was unsure.

An average person shouldn't be able to sense him if he wanted to remain unseen.

The girl nodded with her unnerving smile. "It's because you're predictable."

She was only saying the truth.

Hong Chun didn't need the legendary martial arts hearing ability to guess that he would pay a visit tonight.

In fact, she was so certain, that she made sure to stay later than usual. This guy would undoubtedly say a lot of things, she expected it.

So when she felt that odd feeling when someone was looking at her, she knew he was here.

Si Hai stared at the lady in front of him, numb to her derision.

Everything about her was just so plain.

Her face, body, family background, temperament, and talents. Even her smile was unassuming but something about it made him doubt if he was really seeing her.

However, this simplicity could be very dangerous.

Those who could hide this deep were never simple.

"Who are you?" His eyes were guarded.

Tonight, he should decide whether to kill her or not.

Unaware of the man's thoughts, Hong Chun answered like she always would.

"I'm nobody..." She paused and looked at him. "Even compared to you who's not that significant either."

Unlike the usual, Si Hai strived not to be taken over by his anger. He breathed deeply to control himself.

"How did you know me?" He walked closer to her in hopes of intimidating her.

Sadly, the lady wasn't paying attention again.

"Actually, I don't."

Both of Si Hai's hands twitched. He wanted to hurt someone.

He could still remember the shivers he felt earlier when he whispered to him, 'Curb your anger, great spirit.'

What did she mean?

Don't tell him she was merely joking at that time?

Seeing the agitation on his face, Hong Chun decided to stop playing. "I won't tell you as long as I feel your intent to kill."

Si Hai stared at her, not knowing how to react.

"In case it's not obvious to you, your plan is written all over your face."

This was the rare moment of having the former antagonist's sidekick clutch his chest to catch his breathing.

This girl would be the one to kill him due to anger!

Hong Chun paid no heed to his struggle and gestured to the seat in front of her desk.

When the young man sat, she almost jumped on him and asked.

"Do you feel anyone's presence?"

In reality, she only leaned a little closer but Si Hai flinched away from her as if she had a disease. His body was telling him to stay away even if she didn't have any weapon.

The miss almost laughed at his reaction.

Only then did he realize the question.

He shook his head. They were the only people awake at this hour and he couldn't sense any eavesdropper.

This young miss seemed to be used to doing secretive things. He looked at her full of suspicions.

What he didn't know was Hong Chun only learned to be careful because of the novels she read and wrote.

It was when one was letting their guard down that one would make a mistake.

If she would list out rules for transmigrating or time-space traveling, always checking the surrounding area before giving out important information would be among the top.

She put down her brush and propped her chin on her hand.

"So it's true that you're not human?"

Upon hearing this, Si Hai's face turned ugly.

"You venomous woman! You're asking me when you were the one who called me great spirit?!"

This seemed to be the last straw for him and the attack was so sudden that he forgot to reign himself in.

That was when something appeared from behind him.

One by one, his tails materialized and they were all aimed at Hong Chun.

There was a gleam of interest in her eyes but it wasn't the kind of sparkle you'd see on a girl who found something cute. Instead, they were the eyes of a cold-blooded scientist who witnessed a new discovery.

Si Hai who was in the midst of trying to strangle her with his tails was surprised to see the girl standing and even reaching out to grab one.

The spirit, in all his years of existence never experienced this so he yelped in shock and slight pain.

"I never liked furry animals but even your tails have this rich midnight fur. I wonder what your true form looks like."

The way she touched the end of his tail made his hair stand on end just like a cat that got its tail stepped on. No human ever touched them before so, in panic, he retrieved his nine tails and hid them again.

His face was red in annoyance and shame.

A mere human was able to elicit this much rage from him which made him do stupid things time and again.

He didn't know if he would ever have the face to socialize with one of his kind in the future.

Hong Chun, though, didn't look disappointed now that her entertainment was gone.

Her lips were still curved as she was basking in the moment of this great breakthrough for her.

It was really true.

If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she would never believe it.

There were creatures in this world that didn't conform to human logic.

"How did you know?!" Si Hai demanded, interrupting her reverie.

His fangs protruded and his eyes belonged to that of a furious fox.

The greatest mystery for him was how a human knew his secret. His former master never even noticed something amiss.

Considering that he was with Jiang Ming for years, it was alarming to have someone like Hong Chun appear.

He stayed at the Hong fu1 for less than a month and this young lady already had an idea of who he was.

To say that he wasn't threatened was hypocrisy.

However, he didn't feel any abnormality in Hong Chun. She didn't have the blood of their kind so... just how?

Hong Chun knew that she would be really injured tonight if she didn't give a passable answer and satisfy this fox's wounded ego.

"Because I have a gift."

Si Hai raised a brow.

"Since young, I will know the real character of certain people that will make a huge impact on my life."

It was a lie that wasn't far from the truth so she had no trouble saying it.

She knew Si Hai was a black nine-tailed fox who was a master of disguise. He could sense it when people were lying to him. But he was also a young spirit, barely more than five decades old so his abilities were still developing.

Although spirits had a different way of maturing, his mental age was roughly equivalent to that of a human toddler.

That day she first met him on the outskirts of the capital, she wished that her hunch wasn't true because it would totally mess up her world views.

In the end, her wish wasn't granted because here he was, in all his foxy glory.
