《A book fanatic's Journey through a Fantasy World》Chapter 17: Mealtime

First of all I would like to thank Bec for giving his honest opinion on the story and I will now give my response to it. I really try my best with the grammar and sentence structure but in my country English is barely taught to us. That means that I almost learned everything by myself. I won't use this as an excuse and I am sorry for the mistakes and I will try to improve(what I have been trying to do the whole time).
Secondly about the story being disjointed. I have no excuse for that. To be totally honest I did not really think about where I was gonna take this story in the beginning so I messed a lot up. I then tried to give it a new start with the beginning of the training. The political scheme is not really that important since he is only in for the reward. But now I have everything planned out.
Secondly I would like to ask all of you again to leave your opinion of the story what you like and what you dislike. I believe that the best way this story to evolve is by building on the criticism of you guys. Also now that I have lots of time on my hand should I write some “flashback chapters” where he looks back on his life before chapter 9?
Sorry for the big wall of text but here is the chapter.

Finally, never did I expect that it would take me a week before I would be able to learn this barrier spell. Neither did I expect that the this barrier would be made the same way as the Armor of the Devourer. I just needed to split of a part of my death aura and make a dome out of it. Or that is what I thought, but the problem with doing it like that is that it would require me to keep adding power to the dome. But if I make my aura rotate then the dome would naturally absorb the power required to keep it going. Of course the dome will be weaker but I don't really care about that.
But really that Crow did she even intend to train me. I mean come on she just dropped a bunch of information on me and ran away and to make matters worse the information is extremely vague. The only things mentioned in it are the basics but the real trick to it has been left out. Well I guess she is letting me find my own way, but still her actually being here would help. Well she is a self proclaimed god of gods, so she most likely has her reasons for doing it like that.

Now to find a place to train the Armor of the Devourer and the Soul Shredding Claw. Well I guess anywhere would work. After walking for around an hour I sit down on a somewhat flat rock and start trying to coat my right hand in death aura.
“I give up.”
I can't do this every time I stop gathering my aura, the aura I had gathered up to that point then just flies away like a gas. Wait a gas that is it, I should try to solidify my aura in order for it to stay attached to me. Well how should I do it. If I remember correctly there is only one way to solidify a gas and that is by first compressing it into a vapor and then cooling it down. Lets see if physics work the same in this world.
I try to gather as much aura in the top of my finger and I can see it starting to work. The aura seems to be turning into a vapor. Now I need to cool it down. I also learned that in order to cool something down I need to transfer the internal heat energy to something else. So if I move the heat out of my aura and into my finger I will be able to solidify it.
Ahhahaha it is working, it is forming liquid death energy. This really just looks like a pitch black goo. Fuck, it is working to good my finger can't handle all of the heat energy. I need to dispel it, em how do I do that.
A few minutes after I stop cooling it down the liquid falls to the ground and I am now missing a finger. Well I am really happy I did not try that out on my whole arm. But how could I make such an elementary mistake I need to disperse the heat energy by using it to heat up the surrounding air. After a few seconds my finger starts to regrow, ah I sure love this broken healing power.
I look down and see that the drop of goo that fell down still exists and is eating away at the rock I am sitting on. Note to self the lets call it miasma is highly corrosive. But how should I get rid of it now. Well if I just cool it down and lower the pressure of it it should turn back into my aura. So where am I gonna get the energy from to heat it back up.

Lets see maybe if I just make it spin around. After a spinning it around for a few minutes I turn the goo back into a vapor and spread it out in order to turn it back into my aura. The rock I am sitting on has been frozen in the proces. Well this takes way to long, lets work on that.
After three weeks of nonstop training I am now able to instantly cover my whole arm with miasma and also dispel it in a few seconds. This means that I have master the first of the three levels of the Soul Shredding Claw, namely the claw part. The next level is the Shredding which will increase my offensive power and the last level is the soul which will allow me to damage the soul of a person directly and thus bypassing any physical defense they have.
I have to say I look quite menacing with my arm covered in a moving goo. That is also something I found out, in order to keep the miasma sticking to my arm I need to keep it moving. I was not able to turn the miasma into something solid but I came close enough, actually keeping it in goo form has its advantages. One of these advantages is that it can stick to enemies after making contact and thus eat away at them. The other advantage is that after attacking a bit of miasma always flies away and can thus be used to increase the range of my attacks, but this is also a big disadvantage since these loose pieces of miasma can easily hurt an ally, if I ever get one.
As I look around I notice that I really did a number on this place. There are big holes everywhere and almost all of the trees have been destroyed. No doubt that if I did something like on earth a group of pro-nature fanatics would have lynched me.
Well lets test this new technique a try. What would be the best way to find a wild animal. Well I could just activate my death aura and run around. Yeah lets do that. As I run around I can feel the existence of hundreds of small animals, a family rabbits, a swarm of birds but no animal that could give me a good fight. I guess I should enter the mountain range in order to find some animals or monsters.
After running around like an idiot for almost an hour I find a big gorilla like creature. The only difference with a gorilla from earth is his humungous size which is almost three meters and his arms that each are as thick as a three trunk. Yes he will be the perfect test subject.
Lets do this I activate my Claw and slowly move towards the tree he is resting in. He stands up and jumps down, looks at my arm and then unleashes a feral roar.
He starts running towards me and I create a weak version of the barrier that I placed around the house in front of the gorilla. He just raises his hands and smashes the barrier apart like it is made out of paper.
The gorilla, who is still running towards me, then forms a sledgehammer with his hands and tries to smash me with it.
Ever since my eye turned crimson it feels like my brain can process information way faster. I catch his hands with my claw, the earth under me starts cracking and I can feel my arm going numb. This God of Imprisonments bloodline really is impressive, a normal human would have been smashed to pulp if he tried to block that hit.
He lets out a cry of surprise as he notices that I blocked his hit which is followed by a cry of pain and pure agony as his hands get consumed by my claw. After a few seconds his hands are almost completely devoured. I release the beast from my grip and grab his head with my claw and then turn the miasma back into aura form. No this is no act of mercy but an experiment. My aura releases heat when it turns into miasma, but it needs heat to turn back into aura form. Normally I extract this heat from the air so it only becomes a bit cold for a while, but this time I extracted the heat from the gorilla who now has been frozen to death.
This is my first catch I reform my claw and cut open his chest before extracting the heart. I send a surge of death energy trough it and the hearts explodes, revealing a small blue core.
I mutter: “Thanks for the meal”, before trowing the core in my mouth.
