《The Lonely Wanderer》Chapter 2: Century Old Fire

Shao smiles viciously saying "I asked to play a game with God, Burn down the Temple, claim the lives of our fellow villagers. Only you, my elder brother stood in the way of our game. Now you're abandoned and accepted nowhere, are these the filthy humans were taught to love and forgive?"
Shenzi stays silent listening to Shao.
"It's been a Century hasn't it Shenzi, do your old eyes still see the so-called beauty of our world?"
Shao smiles disdainfully "A hero who saved the lives of our villagers. Cursed by sin for interrupting the god's
game. No place to call home, all you do is wander this world cast away like an abandoned dog."
Shenzi shakes his head with a sigh, "Shao, my younger brother. Aran took us in when we were just immature brats. Our parents were captured during the war. We were lucky to run away, and be adopted by a loving father. Aran was the father that loved us. He treated us just the same as a family."
Shao bursts out in rage, "Silence what bullshit are you talking! Loved us like family, treated us equally? Bullshit Shenzi, our so-called father, always favoured you. Ever since you turned 13, you were appointed to be the Temple's successor the next Temple head. Ever since young you read the scriptures, Learned about the outside world. Not once I got the chance to read those god damned scriptures!"
That so-called god finally answered my call that night. Whispering into my ears "My child I am the manifestation of all your hate. You have the heart of a beast, but your mind is clear and unfazed. You're a rare sapling growing up in this backwater country. I will give you the unworldly power to begin your massacre don't disappoint me, my son."

The manifested god spurs Shao on like a fast-acting poison. "Tonight everyone will fall into a hypnotized state. The villagers will gather like pigs to the slaughterhouse to the Temple tonight. My child has to do, burn down the Temple claiming the lives of everyone. Draw this diagram and allow their blood to accumulate into a red fog. This will stop outsiders from getting in, and insiders from getting out."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At this time Shenzi is 13 years old writing in his diary. A short story that will be called The Lonely Wanderer. With nothing but an oil lamp to light his room, Shenzi's room lights up like the morning sun. In shock, Shenzi looks out to see black fog from his window, coming from the direction of the village's temple.
Shenzi runs out leaving the ink pen on his diary. With the last of his story written untold to the world. Shao's manifested "god" comes out from the shadow of Shenzi's bed. Picking up Shenzi's diary the "god" smiles and mutters to himself, "The Lonely Wanderer, a beautiful piece. I will give you the chance to become as such"
Darkness is ignorance, and knowledge is light. Sadly Shenzi will not have the chance in the future. To be able to mourn the mistake he has made but then again, how would Shenzi know a demon was lurking in the shadows?
Shenzi runs through the forest, stepping on twigs along the way. Without any feeling of pain, Shenzi's blood is the path forward through the fear he feels. Unsure of the well being of his family and friends. Shenzi's "way of life" Is simple, dying doesn't make the world dead to us, Losing family and loved ones make the world dead to us.

Trial of Champions
It all began with a family trip to an amusement park. How were any of us to expect being transported from Earth to participate in some "Trial of Champions," whatever that was supposed to be? Given only an hour to choose the Classes that would come to define our strengths, we were almost immediately torn away from one another and thrust into a deadly game of survival. It wasn't all bad, though, as terrifying as it could be from time to time. The supernatural and magical powers of the Classes were like something out of an RPG, complete with leveling up by killing monsters and completing so-called "Sub-Trials." And despite the juicy Experience to be gained from killing other Champion Contestants, not all of the participants were bloodthirsty murderers; some could be allied with, or even befriended. Even if it seemed like everyone who had been chosen for this Trial, no matter what universe they came from, was at least a little bit crazy. I would survive this till the end, and I'd make sure that my siblings and parents did as well, no matter how many times we were separated from one another. No matter how long it took. No matter what I had to do. --- A first-person litRPG incorporating classes inspired by D&D and other sources. If you like blue boxes but don't need to have huge lists of numbers to scratch your itch, you should be satisfied on that front. Each chapter is, in my word processing document, seven pages long (approximately 3300-3900 words). The Traumatizing Content warning is there because of discussions of certain topics. Nothing that I think deserves the warning actually happens in the story.

Rimward Bound
Every citizen of the sky-cities of His Majesty's Star-Empire knows that a ship, both sky- and star-, is more then just a few bits of metal. It is the grand sum of it's hull and the crew that sail it. 'Hulls of battle-steel and men to match!' That's what the Navy's recruitment poster's claim at least. Every sailor knows that there is one more component that the city-bound folk ignore at their own peril: the soul of the ship. That it takes both man and hull to make a true ship, and that neither alone serve well or for long. In 8225 Lord Jeffrye Saltonstall the Fourth, Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps, demands semi-automated ships to 'reduce the loss of life among our brave crews', manages to convince the other politicians and bureaucrats to fund them, and gets the Office of Ship Construction to sign off on the ships as structurally sound. Dockyard workers shake their heads at the ships, muttering that they are cursed from birth, even as construction drags on. In 8230 the Explorer, first of her class, is launched. She sets out in 8233 to great fanfare on a trip expected to last six months. Neither she nor her twelve-person crew is ever heard from again. By 8235, the remaining seven Explorers are are commissioned. Lord Saltonstall managed to find crews for six of them but at the cost of mass resignations. The Night Horse, last of the Explorer class, sat in reserve as her sister-ships served well enough despite ill luck and misfortune. The Office of Ship Construction quietly issues notice that no more semi-automated ships are to be built and that all active Semi-automated ships are to be quietly retired and broken up for scrap over the next ten years. The Night Horse, sitting in reserve, is missed due to bureaucratic oversight. In 8250 Lord Ayland Wynstryngham the Eighth assumes the office of Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps. His first act is to issue notice that no ship is to be without crew nor sit in dock or reserve for longer then required for maintenance and upkeep. The Night Horse, all but forgotten, is quietly brought back into active service. Recruiting a crew for her proves another matter entirely. What poor or desperate fool would willingly sign on to crew, much less command, a cursed ship and spend months or years in deep space? Well, you would, of course. Where else is a kid from the gutters going to find that kind of freedom in the service of His Majesty? A [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] 2021. Warnings: Second person is used in this work. Semi-Polished draft: Posted chapters are subject to revision as needed as things progress. Mild Profanity on occasion.

I am but Divine
Being a god is a dream. A very big, ambitious dream that probably no one has ever achieved. In the world of Taerrea, there were a set amount of gods that ruled over the world; the god of war, the god of the skies, the god the earth, etc. and that the general rule of thumb was that the numbers of the gods could not be added nor removed. That changed after one fateful event. Nemer, a Slayer, had died from a battle, and from a deal he made with a doubtedly wise god of wisdom and knowledge, Wize, he became the first ever lesser god.
