《The Endless War》Chapter 43: Calling

Only a day passed since that eventful outing. Although to the others it seemed as if the mission was a success to the others it didn’t seem that way. Warren was within their grasp and they could have secured him if it wasn’t for Keianna interfering.
Junji never had a say in the matter since he was knocked out and let’s just say he wasn’t too thrilled. With everything that happened, it seemed like he couldn’t trust his comrade which was vital on the battlefield.
Grey pretty much sided with Junji on this. She would have just arrested them if Isaac didn’t feel so strongly against it. A part of her questioned if she should have just gone with her gut and taken them down despite his protest.
The young hero just wanted to end things peacefully, however and felt as if there was something more to the story. But, he couldn’t be certain. Right now this decision was causing some friction between him and Junji, so he had to be sure.
After completing the mission he had some leisure time for a bit, so he decided to message Keianna with the S-COMM. Asking if they could talk for a bit. Surprisingly enough, she agreed and he was starting to hurry over.
He didn’t know exactly where she lived, but the S-COMM served as a GPS, making sure he was going in the right direction as he caught a bus over towards the lower sector. He never imagined that she would live around this area as well.
This made him grow curious about her. A lot of questions started to come to his mind, but he quickly pushed them away, right now he wanted to get to the bottom of things. She seemed to live in a cluttered area with various apartments conjoined together, though they were rundown.

Upon closer inspection, he could see that parts of the paint were coming off and the stairs leading there were partly scraped off. He carefully walked up the stairs, moving up to the second floor and stopping at the door labeled 201. Eventually, he balled his fist before knocking on it. Soon enough it was opened.
Keianna appeared, wearing a white tank top and some blue shorts. Her hair was neatly tied in a ponytail. She signaled Isaac to come in to which he did.
“Hey, Keianna. Uh, thanks for inviting me. I want to trust you, but I can’t unless I have more information. What’s going on?” He looked around the room briefly.
“I’ll tell you everything. Come here.” She signals him to follow her into the kitchen, sitting down in one of the wooden dining room chairs as she rests an elbow on it.
Isaac takes a seat across from her, resting his palms on the table while he looked at her, waiting for her explanation.
“I’m not one for storytimes, so I’ll try to keep this short as possible. Warren and his crew, I was a part of them for a while. It’s how I got into so much trouble.”
“Trouble? What kind of trouble?”
“Well, a lot of the members from the gang grew up around the lowest sector of Terra. We were bitter towards the ones from the higher sectors and often raided and stole from them.”
“I never would have imagined that you used to do stuff like that... Was there anything else…?”
“The worst thing I did and the reason I was caught was for burning down one of those rich asshole homes. I thought everyone had left so I ended up killing two people. When Seer caught me they were ready to throw away the key until they discovered I was special.”

Isaac’s expression changed into one of shock, he couldn’t believe that her crimes were so serious.
“...”
“I could either face life in jail, or I could devote my life to Seer. You should know what option I took. Now I have Jace keeping a close eye on me.”
“Do you feel bad for those people that you killed? It was an accident, right?”
“I don’t. They knew what kind of money that was and all of the evil things they were doing. They’re just as guilty.”
Isaac frowned for a moment, now he was beginning to understand somewhat. Keianna and Warren had a history with each other. That’s why she was helping him.
“You can’t do things like that anymore. If Jace or anyone else from Seer catches you helping them-”
“I know. It was stupid of me, but it was something I couldn’t turn away from. It’s a one and done deal, he’ll have to handle things on his own.”
“All right… good. Junji and Grey were angry, but they came around eventually. You could have come to us as well after all we should be able to trust each other.”
“Didn’t mean to cause you any trouble. I never expected to see you guys there in the first place.”
“We were helping out with a mission. Maybe it was a good thing.”
Suddenly there was a knock at the door which alarmed the two. Isaac looked in the direction of the knock before asking Keianna a question.
“Is that Captain Jace?”
“No, he usually informs me when he’s stopping by.” Keianna started to approach the door, opening it as Warren entered.
“Keianna, baby, I know I said that last mission would be the last one, but I need just one more favor from you.”
Keianna shook her head. “I already told you, no. You’re not going to screw me over.”
“You can’t do me like that. You’ll always be a part of us, y’know? There’s no getting out even if you’re a member of Seer.”
Hearing the familiar voice, Isaac got up and walked towards them, upon seeing Warren his eyes widened a bit before he clenched his fist.
“Warren! Didn’t you learn last time? It was wrong for you to show your face again.”
“Oh… this little pipsqueak is here?”
“He’s a teammate. Besides, you should be grateful if it wasn’t for him you’d be dead. I saw the look in Grey’s eyes.”
“So, after all, we've been through, you’re just going to kick me to the curb? Damn Keianna, I always knew you were a bitch.” Warren shrugged.
Keianna walked over to the door, opening it quickly before staring at Warren. “Call me that again and you’ll be missing a tongue! Now leave and don’t ever show your face here again.”
Warren scoffs before looking over at Isaac and then heads for the door. “Whatever… I put too much faith in you.” He said before departing.
A loud slam followed before she sighed. “A lot changes in just a few months.”
“What do you mean?”
“At one point in time I was devoted to what we were doing, and Warren, but now I realize that I was being stupid.”
“We all make mistakes, but we also have a chance to learn from them.”
Suddenly, their S-COMM was ringing, alerting them of an urgent meet up at Seer HQ where they were all required to attend.
“Looks like we are needed, we better hurry.” Isaac said.
