《The Endless War》Chapter 42: Trust

Grey was able to make metal handcuffs locking both the dealer and the supplier up as the trio placed them in the corner. It seemed like a job well done and Junji was preparing to send the call to round up the others, but suddenly the entrance to the warehouse was opened and in came running an army of people.
“Huh?” Junji gasped.
They were all wearing black and carrying ARs. They easily surrounded the trio, aiming their weapons at them before they questioned what was going on.
“What’s Seer doing here?”
“This wasn’t part of the plan. But, it doesn’t matter. The most important thing is to secure this area.”
“Who the hell are you guys?” Junji asked.
“We serve the holy one that’s all you need to know. Since you aren’t involved you’re expendable.” The group all unleashed a hail of bullets, not wasting any time…
It would have been over for them if Grey wasn’t there, making use of her magic to hold the bullets in the air as they neared them before redirecting them back at them. She aimed for non-vital spots and took care of most of them, but some were able to get away.
“Good job, Grey! I knew it was smart to take you along.” Junji smirked as he looked at the downed enemies.
“Should we chase the ones that are retreating?” Isaac asked.
“Nah, it’s best we secure the guys here. I’m sure if we can get any one of these guys to talk we’ll have all the information we need-”
A loud explosion was heard… shaking and rumbling the building causing parts of the ceiling to collapse and fall onto the ground. A large chunk of debris was making its way known, falling below towards Junji.
The young boy gasped before he was shielded in a dome of metal that easily withstood the impact of the falling obstacles, only fading once Grey was assured it was safe.
“Whew, I owe you one now for saving me. We better head outside and see what that mess was about.”
“Welcome,” Grey said bluntly.
“You guys make sure you get everyone out safely. I’ll head outside and see what’s going on.” Isaac mentioned as he ran off.
Once he was outside he could see those dressed in black were mercilessly murdered and lying in a pool of their blood. Another gang was around, carrying heavy artillery. Machine guns and rocket launchers and it looks like they were the ones trying to cave in the building…
“What do you think you’re doing!?”
The group looked at each other and proceeded to aim their weapons at the boy while someone called out for them, telling them to wait. However, he wasn’t going to waste this moment with their eyes off of him he summoned an array of cards and sent them hurling their way, cutting along their bodies, forcing them to drop their weapons.

“Damn he’s one of those freaks who can wield magic…!”
“We weren’t told about this…”
Among the crowd of unfamiliar faces, there was one that struck out to Isaac… he hadn’t noticed it at first, but there was someone with a black hat covering their face… that voice from earlier seemed to strike him as familiar…
“If they’re here then things could turn out badly for us. Let’s leave while we still can.” The masked person spoke.
“Leave…? No this is the perfect chance for us to regain our dominance. Killing the gifted of Seer would set a prime example.” One of the men said.
Isaac stared at the two they seemed different from the grunts. This man was well-toned and had sandy brown hair and tattoos along the side of his face of what appeared to be the claw of a bird.
“Who are you?”
“You haven’t heard of me kid? It’s Warren and I’m the leader of the moles. It seems you interrupted some business that we had, so you’ll have to pay with your life!”
The masked person placed a hand on Warren before shaking their head. “I agreed to help you with your current problem, but if you drag him into this then I’m going to bow out.”
“Are you growing soft on me babe? Now’s not the time to show mercy. Besides they won’t tell a soul because they’ll be dead! Kill him, men!”
The group of men prepared their weapons and started to fire an onslaught of bullets towards little Isaac, but the boy seemed prepared as he summoned numerous cards around him and had them spiral around him to form a barrier to stop the bullets.
When they had stopped to reload he managed to fire off the cards to incapacitate them, thugs. However, after he did this he relaxed for a moment and that’s when Warren charged in, wielding a knife within his grip.
He swung directly for Isaac’s face and the boy was just barely able to avoid it by stepping to the right, a cut forming on his cheek as trickles of blood dripped down. Warren moved erratically, trying to strike a vital spot of the boy.
Isaac didn’t seem like he could get away until a radiant fireball came their way which he used to his advantage by leaping out of the way and having it ram into Warren’s chest as he fell onto the ground.
“Gaah!” When he looked up he could see another ally of Isaac accompanied by his fire fairy.
“You ok, buddy? Looks like I came just in time.” Junji said with concern in his voice.
“I’m fine. I let my guard down a bit and almost paid for it.”
“Keianna! Don’t just stand there, you’re the difference maker here, beat these superpowered punks!”
“Huh? Keianna?” Junji said with a confused expression.

The masked person swore under their breath before slowly approaching the group. They glanced at Warren and then at the others before quickly zipping in towards Junji with the aid of their lightning and proceed to give them a fierce palm strike.
Junji guarded against it in time but was still surprised by the impressive speed and impact and before he could even say her name he was charged with lightning before being sent flying back along the ground. The high voltage was enough to easily knock him out and cause his fairy to fade away.
“Junji!” Isaac called out.
The masked person was about to strike him next until they noticed various spears being hurled towards them causing them to leap back to avoid the ruthless attack.
“What’s going on here?” Grey asked. She looked to spot Junji lying roughly on the ground before turning her head towards Isaac. “Well?”
“Well, it looks like Warren showed up personally… and K-Keianna might be working with him… she’s the only one who could have taken out Junji that quickly.”
“The girl from before? Wasn’t she an ally?”
“She still is… I think. Warren must have something to do with this, right?” Isaac looked towards the masked person and the man himself.
“One down and two to go. When word spreads around about this I’ll be a fucking god among the streets of Terra!” Warren chuckled.
“I won’t go down so easily,” Grey muttered, summon a small metallic ball from the air.
The masked person rushed in, but Grey forced them back by flaying the metallic object with great speed. The masked person dodged to the side before rushing in to try and land a strike. Grey kept her distance before summoning two more small metal orbs from the masked person’s side, causing them to try and strike her. Though the masked person zipped away with lightning to avoid it causing the balls to crash into each other.
Warren charged in with his knife but was soon blasted away by a fireball from Isaac this time. This caused him to stagger as Grey manipulated one of her metal balls to form a ring around Warren’s torso to trap him.
“Damn these guys are more trouble than I thought!” Warren complained.
The masked person sprinted towards the two with hostile intent. They narrowly avoided a metal spear that was thrown towards them by Grey, the weapon cutting through their pants and nicking their skin.
Grey avoided the attacker’s strikes, rapidly punches, and swift kicks aimed to try and incapacitate her. She took a gamble and guarded against a loose punch, deflecting it with the back of her fist while delivering a stern punch towards the person’s stomach.
The masked person groaned slightly before returning the favor with a blast of lightning. It caught Grey off guard, sending her flying back, rolling against the ground. Seeing this Isaac gasped before clenching his fist.
He channeled a spell into one of his cards before sending it flying towards the masked person. He just had to see who he was fighting… even if he already knew. The masked person didn’t see it in time, but as it neared lightning emitted from the attack and soon released a similar wave of lightning.
It wasn’t as powerful, but it was enough to stun them momentarily for Isaac to tackle them to the ground. The two fell onto the ground with a loud thud before the boy reached for the masked, ripping it off and revealing…
“Keianna…! Why are you here?”
That violet hair and matching eyes. They were soft colors, but on her, they looked fierce. Why exactly was she here?
“You guys weren’t supposed to be here! You’re ruining everything!” She grumbled before pushing the boy off.
“You’re a traitor? Working with these people…?” Grey questioned.
“You don’t know anything. It’s complicated.”
“It’s very complicated. After all, Keianna was originally a member of my gang before she was forced to join Seer it seems.”
Isaac looked surprised while Grey didn’t seem to care about the context of it all. She only focused on what was happening right now.
“If you’re still aiding this man then we’ll have to arrest you along with him,” Grey said.
“I need you guys to trust me, I don’t want to hurt you, but if you push me then I’ll make you regret it,” Keianna said threateningly.
“Wait… there has to be a way we can settle this.” Isaac started. “I haven’t known her long, but I can’t see Keianna as someone who’d help these people without a reason.”
“Don’t go soft, Isaac. She doesn’t get a free pass to do things like this.”
“I think you should just let me slide. That is if you have any care for your friend here… after all, that Captain of yours controls her life. If he found out about something like this then it won’t just be a sentence it’ll be her life, hahaha!” Warren started to chuckle before he felt the metal around him tightening around him. “Uggh! Uncle, uncle!”
“... Isaac this is on you.” Grey said.
“Thank you, Grey… look we’ll let you go, but that’s it.”
“No worries, everyone else was just extras. Now please take this off, it’s hard to move!”
Grey sighed reluctantly before removing the metal prison from Warren much to his relief. He quickly ran off to the nearest vehicle before calling Keianna over. Isaac stared at her until she departed, driving off with the mad criminal.
“Stupid,” Grey mumbled to herself.
