《Another life》Chapter 6:

Say, remember when Lyle said that my parents and grandpa are discussing something important? I know i do.
Turns out the important thing that they're discussing about is nothing more than the princess birthday, and 2 more things. Believe it or not the other 2 is much more shocking than the birthday part.
You probably think why would it take so long right?
Well here's the rundown of the story. First of all the princess birthday matter was quickly put aside that night when they started discussing, after all it's only a party.
Then what they discussed next is about Lyle's fiancé. Yes, fiancé the thing that even me who is 15 year old (in my old life) with good grades didn't have one. Honestly I'm a little bit jealous.
I'm not really surprised by it, afterall in amost of the books I've read before in my old life such thing is normal in medieval times, and fantasy world.
Okay, I have doubt when it comes to the fantasy part, but I'm pretty sure I'm right in the medieval part.
What they discussed about that, isn't the part what family does the other party come from, or how much power does she hold, or any of those noble priority stuff.
What they discussed was something more like when will they meet, what will the plans be in the distant future, and so on.
And then comes the topic which cost them a lot of time. It's about the territory on what grandpa control.
I was quite surprised when I heard that, so I ask him what is his job is.
Turns out he's a Marquis, a Marquis! One of the higher nobles, below only to the royal family and the Duke.
By the way the social standing in this world is:
Royal family→ Duke → Marquis→ Earl→ Count→ Viscount→ Baron→ Chevalier
The royal family bestow the higher nobles (Duke,Marquis, Earl, count) a territory of their own. And the lower nobles (Viscount,Baron,Chevalier) are given a portion of land from the higher nobles which they affiliates to.
The nobles with higher social standing will have a bigger territory compare to the lower ones, and will given more benefits such as the exemption of tax.
Of course the responsibilities will also rise, and it's necessary for the lord of the territory to stay in their territory, unless that something important is happening. In this case the princess birthday.
By the way, apparently my father hold the title of Baron, and it would seem that the family crest that dad showed are not dad's but grandpa's.
He just happen to have one since we're given a territory by grandpa, and it's because we're a family.
And here I thought that dad has a title of an earl or higher, well guess this serve as a lesson to not jump into a conclusion.
Now where was I? Oh yea, apparently the territory that grandpa manage lack funds to operate, and they need a way to resolve it.
Not only that, but the food in grandpa's territory also declining because of the beasts destroying the crops, and the ones that are left are the untasty ones
Regarding this I do have the solution for the money part, but who would believe a 3 year old kid right?
Putting all of those aside, right now I'm all alone with grandpa and the maids in the house. Hm, maybe “all alone” isn't the right word for this.
You're probably wondering why right? That's because my family are now having a meeting with Lyle's fiancé family.
So why didn't I come with them? That's because according to grandpa I'm just going to be a bother.

Frankly I have to agree with grandpa. Not not about me being a bother, but about me no going with them. I mean if I did come with them what will I do? Play with my sister? Well that's not so bad, but I find it much more satisfying to stay in the mansion.
Mom hearing that was pretty mad, but in the end all of it settle down with me staying in the mansion with grandpa. All thanks to my easy going dad.
Seriously he break the argument by saying “it's only a while, and your pops haven't played with him since he was born right?”. Mom didn't argue anymore when she hear dad's words.
Well that's good, but dad. You really don't have any manner/ fear huh? Saying that to mom's dad who is a Marquis.
So with mom, dad,Lyle, and Cecilica gone I'm now in grandpa's library reading books with grandpa.
“Say grandpa don't you have any books beside story books?”
“Of course I do, but you won't be able to understand them.”(grandpa)
“But..”
“I'm really bored hearing this stupid stories!” is what I wanted to say, but of course I can't bring myself to it.
Still, if you're wandering just how bad is it let me tell you something. Imagine you're hearing a kid's story book for like 20 times in a row.
And all of the stories are about a hero came from another world to kill the demon lord, and finally succeeded after go on an adventure with his comrade.
You know the typical transported to another world story where everyone in the end is happy, and the MC got a harem in the process too. I wonder just how many times have I heard this cliché of an event.
So you can see why do I want to say that, and why am I asking him if there's another book.
“Hmm, how about you choose one of the books from here and read it. After that I'll ask you a few things, and if you can answer it I'll give it to you.”(grandpa)
“Really!?”
My eyes sparkled a bit when I said that. Then again, I can't see my own eyes so I'm not sure.
“Yes,yes. Now hurry up and choose one.” (Grandpa)
“Okay!”
I look around the library while searching for books related to magic and Alchemy.
‘Hmm, should I choose advance magic theory? Or should I choose the Alchemy one. Darn if I can choose 2 then I'll be over this in a flash.’
I think for a while and consider what book will I choose. Then, from the shelf I see a book that look interesting, and read it.
‘Hm? The Book of Wisdom? I wonder what's inside.’
I took the book, and open it. And when I read it..
‘Nothing? Should've expect that this books is a fraud.’
‘Who're you calling a fraud!’
I look around to see if there’s anybody around, and found no one.
‘Is it just imagination? Or perhaps’
I looked at the book for a while, and think of the possibility that the books is talking, and quickly deny it.
‘Yup, must be my imagination. There's no way a book can-’
‘I heard that you fool!’
The voice became louder when I said that. More importantly he’s mad at me when I deny the possibility which mean.
‘You have got to be kidding me..’

The Undead Revolution
This was my first attempt at writing a story, in hiatus indefinitely. This story follows Silvy, half-elf, a rare race despised by both humans and elves. Having never met her father, the first years of her life were spent together with her mother, who had to leave her native village because of the blasphemy she had committed by giving birth to Silvy. At the age of eight, Silvy became an orphan and was left to fend for herself. Her mother had died of illness, Silvy’s life turning upside down: the child went from living in a modest but cozy home with poor but daily meals to live outside the walls in the slums, where crime was commonplace and food was scarce. Luck had yet to abandon her completely though, because a group of orphans like Silvy decided to help, integrating her into their group and teaching the tricks of the trade; that is, stealing and swindling. But fate had not yet finished playing with her. Kidnapped and frightened, her life will turn upside down again when she awakens as undead, but still able to think clearly.

The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
