《Memoirs of an old traveler:First Rebirth》Chapter 08-family get together
Advertisement
I’ve got no problems personally but I can’t help but be scared for my mental health what with the fact that my sisters look like they want to follow in the footsteps of my mothers not to mention that I have the right to be scared of them in the future. Well this family get together ’more like the plotting of the female members while the males try to look like air’ keeps going on. These large scale get togethers are a bit rare due to the timing but looks like dad has been planning this for a while. The course is rather simple stuff I suppose, various stews, roasts, fruits, and stuffed bread. No crazy ingredients like foie gras or truffles, just hearty food fit for those who like to train hard. Cade and Brad pass by every once in awhile carrying cloth, bowls, etc. If you are going to take stuff from my food don’t make it obvious. I can see that you have eaten something, you two still have smudges of food on your mouth. I would complain but since there is extra food I don’t mind sparing some, actually how obsessed with food are you two. It is not like the household does not feed people, the peasants never go hungry either.
The central table with father at the head and both mothers on either side now that we are actually eating is quite nice. Everyone is just eating and talking hearty, laughter is spontaneous and joyful. I mostly talk with my next older brother and sisters ”What have you been doing these days lil bro” older brother asks me, “I survived boss sis’s training!” I proudly declare. Why do I call the head maid this, aunty would sound weird and using her name or job title would be bad, the way she acts amongst the servants and family contributed to me making this as her title in my eyes. My brother can only give a sagely nod in understanding, looks like no one got to skip those lessons, sigh. Half of my sisters that are nearby seem to share the same view, the other half well this does not look good for my health ‘gulp’. Please spare me I am only a naughty child!

Thankfully the head maid accepted this epithet earlier though she warned me not to use it after I grow up, that smile scares me.... I should make a list of smiles to avoid in this family. In comparison I call the head butler uncle since he is quite boisterous and has that larger then life rough feel to him. Under him I have started to learn basic fighting though this is just light exercises to gain strength and agility along with learning how to hold a short staff over long periods of time. It was till just before the little get together that I started learning to throw knives since I can handle that with this body, apparently the knife throwing is passed down from old founder and refined over the years. Back in founder’s time it was mostly used to distract and finish off weakened foes from a distance, now apparently we can have the techniques to accurately hit and disable limbs though insta kills in the vitals are still a matter of luck. I have a feeling our family does not believe in the grand art of chivalrous swordfighting. Not exactly surprising after boss sis’s training preview, once I finish my training woe to anyone who fights me without anything special, any normal bandit or even knight is going to get diced or smashed to pieces quickly. Do I even want to try to find out our history in duels, I am quite certain about the ratio of success. However as of now I still have to be careful of urban or forest compat since two handed combat is not kind in these areas though the knife and hand to hand combat compensate for the most part. It might actually be kinder to use a sword...
My brothers and sisters are saying that I am doing good in my studies both scholarly and marital but I don’t know, this entire family is so out of standards I can only guess. I am fumbling in the dark here since I have never met any other nobles and it’s not like I had any real knowledge of nobility are like. My parents and siblings never bought over anybody from other families and the peasants are obviously not nobles. Well not like I can keep dwelling on this. ‘hmmm’ looks like the dessert is here. Chilled fruit juice with soft bread, looks tasty, while this is getting served dear dad drops a bomb on me. “Son now that you are getting older it is about time you should know about your future duty” One dropped spoon later dad just keeps going. “Our family has since olden times if you remember has guarded this kingdom and it’s royalty. And now you will be fulfilling that tradition for the family” WHAT IS THIS!?!

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.

Exuperius [DISCONTINUED]
Terravest. The northernmost continent of the world known by many names of legend, but is most commonly reffered to as Athora, has, for eons, served as the land of exiles. Human criminals, dark elves, grayskinned orcs and dwarves that preffer mining with machinery over the traditional pickaxe alike, have come to call this half-frozen hellhole their home. It is a land of great strife, calamity and crisis, where one legendary tale ends only to begin the next, heroes fall down and villains find themselves thrown into lava. Around seventy years ago, a legendary figure appeared out of seemingly nowhere and conquered three human nations, forming a kingdom worthy enough of being called a small empire. However, at the eve of his heirs ascension, the legend breathed his last, leaving this same bloated, chaotic realm without the pillar that kept it together. Already, the carrion nobility, still spiteful for being denied their "rightful" place below the sun, rise up and gather at the court, each eager to consolidate their own power in these troubled times. Tempers flare, power is exercised without restraint and no one expects the hedonistic prince to succeed at keeping the realm together. Alas, as is often the case with such tales, not everything seems to be as it might at first appear and the vain lords of the realm may yet come to regret their carrion will. --- The Content Warnings are there for a good reason. ---

Battle Royale across the Universe: The Species Tournament
Join the Species Tournament! You might lose your sanity, and quite possibly, your life. But hey, great adventure awaits. Who would accept such a deal and risk it all for glory and the unknown? Well, apparently quite a few. In fact, 1.000.000 life forms will face each other in this century’s tournament. Who will win and who’ll be sent packing? Who will gain strength and who’ll leave with trauma? Find out on this week’s episode of the Species Tournament! ................................................................................................... Additional notes (for those who want more details before giving the novel a try): - It’s a battle royale type of setting between humans, pixies, elves, and dwarves organized by a Television Channel from the Demon World. - The MC foolishly decides to join the competition and will struggle to redeem himself throughout the story. The unfolding events will force him and his friends to mature in different ways. - Each round will be held in a different location/planet. The rounds and the locations will become crazier as the plot progresses. - There will be a mystery aspect to the story, since the demons don’t really like spoon feeding contestants on what is going on. - You can expect some magic elements, though contestants won't have much access to them. - The members of each species will have their own unique worlds, back-stories, motivations, and traits. Some will fight for personal reasons while others for the sake of their people. The needs of many vs. the needs of the individual will clash on several occasions. - Finally, there will be twists and turns at every corner, so one should never get too comfortable. Thanks in advance to all who read my story, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!
