《Heroes of the Collapsing World》Chapter 24: Feral's thought

Author note: Yup. my holiday is gone. Goodbye holiday and hello busy year.
Just like i said previously i might only update once a week depend on my free time. And it was only few more chapter until the opening part end. The rest was battle chapter.
This chapter was focused around Feral as he just woken up and missed all the event except middle school escape. Next one still about him.
Sorry about the long update, and enjoy.
In a dark storage room Feral woke up.
The day Feral came out from his cocoon was the day before Ein’s group departed, and the middle school heroes escape.
He didn’t know why he was inside of a cocoon, but he clearly remembered what happened to him. He was swallowed by Asche’s pillar of fire. Then using his last strength he did a desperate attack and sent her flying.
After that he didn’t remember anything.
Feral took a step outside from the cocoon. The old wooden floor made a creak sound, and the dust gathered flies away to escape from being stepped into.
“…...”
Feral examined the cocoon in front of him.
It was made out of numerous white silk-like materials. The inside didn’t have any sign of dust, unlike the outside. On the outer side of the white cocoon a month worthy of dust stick into it.
Feral vaguely estimated how much he was asleep from it, and then he noticed the relatively new footprints on the floor near him. There were also big circle from where the footprints came from.
“Three…no. seven people.”
Other than him, there were trance of four people who also went through the same thing as him. Obviously those footprints belong to the other that fought again Asche, and got burned black.
However half of it was different. Unlike the other, the footprint didn’t start from the big circle where, but from the door straight in front of him.
“Three male… and one female.”
Feral figured that out from the size of the footprint. He also realized that some of them must belong to the one that carried him here, but he felt something was strange.
The three male aside, the female footstep felt out of place. First of all, it was strange if the female also came here to carry cocoon that filled with human. When men present, it was unnecessary for them to help.

Second, the number didn’t match. Three men to carry three human cocoons. The manpower to carry the cocoon should be enough, but the female clearly came for a different reason and time. The footprint was newer than the other three.
Feral who was clueless about his current situation, can’t help but try to gather information from his surroundings.
He moved closer toward the door, and sniffed the air. There wasn’t any smell of blood, and presence of guard from behind the door. He judged that he wasn’t in a dangerous situation.
He was about to open the door, then he noticed he wasn’t wearing any clothes.
“Ah, it was burned at that time.”
However it was just at the level of forget to bring lunch, and decided to buy from the cafeteria.
With the intention of robbing clothes of the next person he sees, Feral opened the door.
“……”
Immediately after he opened the door, he saw someone. It was a young girl with dull brown clothes.
The young girl watched the man with her cute round eyes. Her unnatural white hair didn’t move this whole time. The only thing that moved was her chest that moved up and down, that indicated her normal breathing.
Feral thought that he saw her somewhere, but he can’t remember it well.
While the girl stand still, her eyes wandered around, and it stopped at a certain point. The once moving eyes froze, and her white cheek slight became red. The girl was still confused and unable to move.
Feral who didn’t mind the girl anymore, touched the girl’s feeble looking shoulder, and said this.
“If you don’t want to get hurt, strip!”
That magic word undone the girl’s confusion-state. She immediately opened her mouth wide.
“KYAAAAAAAA!!!!!”
With an ear piercing volume, she screamed for help. Her scream echoes through the entire inn, making everyone went out from their room.
That night everyone gathered there for nothing. Incidentally this became the reason Elfie gave Mary the pendant that will protect her.
Feral was bought similar dull brown clothes like the one he saw earlier. Then he heard about what happened after he passed out.
“Look like I got a rematch to do.”
Yuu who heard him saying that, doubted his ear. He already told him about a forest immediately burned down, and a road of fire was made along the way. However it didn’t change his mind.

After that he left the inn. Feral wandered around the village and looked into the aftermath of the battle. The big black circle, the remnant of a forest, and the black road that went all the way through in a single line.
Before Feral knew it, he was already bored, and spent his time to close the one month blank of not moving his body.
After getting a month amount of sleep he didn’t felt sleepy and spent his night doing workouts in his room. In the morning when Ein and the other departed from the village, Feral was asleep because of exhaustion and
hunger.
On the evening he woke up because of hunger. Obeying his noisy stomach, he went out from his room to look for food, but soon stopped his feet. The reason was because he didn’t need to look for a food anymore.
When he opened the door, he found a plate with soup and bread in it. Of course at first, he was suspicious of it. However lured by the smell of luke-warm food, his stomach let out a sound.
“……Whatever.”
His hunger won, so he didn’t mind about the little detail about it, and ate the food. After that he did another workout until the night came.
Around midnight he went out from his room, and headed toward the forest. His reason was clear.
Feral already said it to Yuu not long after he fought the Orc. Because he already found the place he wanted to go, so he only followed his will.
He didn’t bring anything with him because he didn’t own anything. The only thing he took with him was the clothes on his body. He was fixed to live with the help of nature.
Although he heard the distance wasn’t really far, he prepared his mind in advance.
On his way toward the forest he saw a strange scene. A small male holding into a rope made out of blanket and swayed around because of the wind.
“~~~~~~!”(Keynest)
To be honest that scene amused him. Even if he was strange, and a battle freak. He was someone that came from modern world. He was never confined and forced to do thing like that to break out, but he does want to try
doing something like that.
He watched him went down from the rope, and the next person came down. It continued until all of them went down.
Of course Feral found it strange to saw them doing this in the middle of a night. However from their action and behavior, he found out about their objective.
“Look like you’re planning to do something fun. Mind if I join?”
Feral called out to them.
All of them froze the moment they noticed him. Soon out of nowhere they unsheathed their weapon and showed hostility to him.
Feral barely made any interaction with the other. Because of that Ophie and the other only know him as a battle freak; they didn’t realize that they missed the chance to add him to their battle force.
Feral without a doubt a battle-freak, but he wasn’t an idiot. He leant from his battle again Asche that a single mistake can lead to his death, and that there was someone stronger than her.
“I’m the first daughter of the demon lord of fire, Asche Lybryolnyes. Remember it well as in the last name you will ever hear!”(Asche)
He didn’t miss the word daughter, and demon lord.
Feral was overjoyed by that information, but he already accepted the fact that he alone can’t defeat them. Getting a comrade or two won’t be a problem or so he thought until they started pointing their weapon at him.
It can’t be helped. The unsheathed sword can’t be put back again once it was taken out.
This was also a good chance for Feral. He already heard about a group of adventure training the other while he was asleep. He didn’t know how much they grown, but it was a good chance to measure their and his strength.
“What, you want to fight me? Bring it on!”(Feral)
Feral fought them, and felt disappointed. Compared to people from his world they were better in term of skill and strength, but they didn’t use it correctly. It was as if someone who was taught how to make a sword, but
wasn’t taught how to use them.
They didn’t use their weapon as a weapon to hurt or kill, but as a toy. If they were like that, Feral alone was much better.
“Look like it was a mistake to invite them.”
Feral concluded.
After defeating all of them, just like that Feral left the scene behind and went somewhere else.

This was my entry for National Novel Writing Month, because why only write one series at a time? The more the merrier! (meanwhile, my keyboard bursts into flames...) I'm also the writer of The Last Science, an ongoing low-fantasy/speculative sci-fi series. If you're familiar with that, you know what to expect here: lots of character-focused drama and dialogue, not a whole lot of traditional action. However, I'm writing a bit differently than usual here, and in a very different structure, so there should be some surprises for returning readers. I hope you enjoy it! [Discord] — for those of you who want to hang out and chat. Cover art (fullsize): Path of Revelation, by taenaron (Tobias Roetsch), modified by Etzoli. Normally I like to do my own cover art from scratch, but I was in a rush for the contest. Might be replaced down the line if I get time.
