《Heroes of the Collapsing World》Chapter 2: Introduction (Middle School)

Author note: Edited.
In the middle school group there was a little problem. Although the high school group also had one, this group’s problem was more fundamental.
“So, who’s the leader?”
A black haired girl asked.
“What for? Isn’t the leader is the teacher and adult?”
The white haired girl next to her answered her.
Both of the girls were like yin and yang. Black and white. Different in appearance but, still related to each other.
Unlike Mary who had her hair because of her sickness, the girl got hers from her linage.
The black hair girl shrugged her shoulder and started playing with her hair.
“Don’t you understand the situation we’re in? We’re stranded in this unknown land with bunch of filthy adult and scary senior. Who we can depend on to except ourselves?”
“I’m not sure about that…”
The white hair girl made a dubious face and threw the question to the other.
“Hey, what do you think Raisen?”
The boy named Raisen put his hand on his chin as if he had a beard and started thinking.
“I think it’s better to rely on the adults and senior. I mean they do have more experience and stronger. Look at that guy from the senior group, he look strong enough to beat up most guy right?”
The guy Raisen pointed at was Feral. Feral was indeed strong enough to beat up most men but, that didn’t mean that he will protect them. The black hair girl who noticed that once again said her thought.
“No. Don’t you know who he’s? Feral of the high school division. Fighting is his hobby while he doesn’t care about other thing. Do you think a man like that will protect us?”
“Calm down Ophie. At least for now we can’t do anything, so why don’t we just go with the flow?”
The black hair girl, Ophie let out a sigh from her friend naivety.
“Listen here Lumine, where do you think we’re?”
The white hair girl, Lumine slightly tilted her head and answered Ophie with the most obvious answer.

“Plain field in the middle of nowhere?”
“Anything come to mind?”
“Aah, here! Here! heeree!”
The person who suddenly interrupted her was also someone from the middle school group. With a solid yellow color short hair she cheerfully raised her hand.
“You’re?”
“I’m Teena. Because you look like already knew each other it was hard to butt in. Oh, and here is my friend Leica, Kevin, and Icarus.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“I see. Then what do you want to say?”
Uninterested with the four people outside from her group. Ophie urged Teena to hurried up and finish her business.
“Oh, yes. This situation does trigger something in my head. Ah, yes, it was similar to the comic we read before. If I’m not wrong then soon a monster will appeared and attack us.”
Teena lightly laughed at her own words without caring on how scary that possibility was. Her carefree part was similar with Hans from high school division, who also had similar personality.
“She’s right. There’s no way we will just left like this. There must be something additional to it like the monster attack she said.”
“Yey, I was right.”
Teena hugged the brown hair girl next to her, Leica.
“To prepare for such situation we must choose a leader among ourselves so that we can do just fine when we separate from the other group. So I ask once again, who’s the leader?”
No one volunteered.
“Then you will do.”
The one that Ophie choose was someone who all this time didn’t say a word and just busy reading the book on his hand.
“Whatever.”
Without batting an eye to them the boy continued reading his book after replying with a short word.
The boy was the smartest student in middle school division. His name is Keynest. Boring hair and boring personality.
There was nothing special about him except his dedication in studying. Because of that he always took first place when he was at school and earned some award for education.

If high school group problem child is Feral then middle school group problem child is Keynest.
Although he didn’t have the charisma to be a leader he did have the vast knowledge that will be useful when facing a problem. Or that was what Ophie thought.
Well if he proofed to be useless than Ophie planned to select another one.
That was the entire middle school group, consisting eight people.
Fortunately unlike High school division, the middle school division was filled with people who already knew each other except Keynest who was not in either Ophie’s or Teena’s.
However because of the two different groups inside of it there was the risk breakdown which Ophie hadn’t realized yet. At least for now Teena’s group didn’t seem want to separate themselves from Ophie’s group.
“Hey, are you done discussing? We’re about to group up with the adults group.”
“Ah, yes, please don’t mind us. We will be there in a moment.”
Yuu came to informed about the meeting, was politely brushed off by Ophie.
“Listen here. What we talked about separating form the other group is a secret so don’t reveal it to them. If they asked what we were discussing about just say that we talked about the meteor. You can do the rest right?”
“It’s easy.”
Keynest replied that and finally closed his book.
After that they started to move to grouped up with the adult’s group.
“So Raisen, what did you think about this situation?”
On the way Ophie’s group was silent on their front but they continued to secretly exchange opinion on the back.
“Honestly it was like a fiction, both the meteor and this situation.”
“That isn’t what I asked about. What I asked about is your opinion about this situation.”
“Sorry about that Lumine. Let’s see, it wasn’t good.”
“Your reason?”
“Ophie is once again tried to do something stupid.”
“Aah, you have a point.”
“You two, I can hear it you know.”
Ophie complained to both of her friend.
“Hey, guys, doesn’t this situation make you feel exciting? I mean we’re in another world you know! Like monster slaying, sword, magic, and slime!”
“Ou, I am also all fired up from imagining myself fighting in this world!”
One of Teena’s companions, Kevin, the boy with spiky blue dyed hair shouted out. It made the other directed their sight to them.
“Haha, Teena is right but, it wasn’t decided yet that this is that kind of world.”
The boy who replied to his friend calmly was Icarus.
He had a red yellowish hair and a proper walking stances unlike Kevin who was walking in a slightly exaggerate way because of his excitement.
“What are you saying Icarus? I guaranteed that there’s monster here and we will fight them like the monster hunting game we played before.”
“That was a game…”
“Well, well, isn’t it fine. Either way, I was also slightly excited from being in another world. Let’s just go with the flow Icarus.”
“Even you Leica…”
“I love you Leica!”
Leica, slightly giggled, and caught Teena who jumped toward her. Her long brown hair slightly swayed from receiving Teena and soon she let go of Teena after patting Teena’s short yellow hair.
It was unnecessary to say how well they get along. Teena and Leica’s behavior said it all.
“I guess I have no choice but to follow you people again.”
Icarus shrugged his shoulder.
“Come on, the truth is you’re also excited right?”
Icarus didn’t replied and only let out a smile toward his easy-going friend.
Unlike Ophies’s group, Teena’s was enjoying their trip to another world that was clearly shown in their conversation.
Unlike the other group Teena’s group was the most fortunate one. Because in their group none got left anyone behind. Moreover they were even closer to each other than their own parents. So they didn’t have any attachment in their previous world.
Everyone was busy with themselves so, never did they realize that there was something watching them from a far.
The middle school students were thinking about independent themselves from the other groups.

This is a writing exercise so chapters are mostly first drafts, otherwise I'd end up rewriting each chapter for a month or more with no real changes. My goals are a steady output by not using perfectionism as a procrastination method. I've already got laziness and additions to reading/games, I don't need a 3rd reason to procrastinate.][Disclaimer 2: The main character is a more normalized version of me, with 170% less laziness installed, and a few buffs like greater courage. Other things like having a job are partially similar. No other characters are based on real people because most people I know are either too normal to be useful or too fucked in the head to be believable.]
