Chapter 2
Yeah new chapter enjoy.
I was back at the dojo I swung open the doors to find everyone training except Amanda who was waiting expectantly.
"Hey Amy how's it goin- gah" I yelled
As a training sword hit me smack in the face
"Rematch now" she ordered
I sigh she's way too stubborn and prideful for her own good
"Fine fine" but don't expect much I don't have anything up my sleeve this time" I explained
"DOES IT LOOK LIKE I CARE"she yelled and bashed me in the head
"Owwwww don't hit me before the battle starts"I said slightly hurt
The We begin to take our stances I notice that she's using a different stance she smirks."I gave you a chance last time there will be no such thing now so I wonder how you'll try compensate" she smugly said. I prepare for whatever incoming attack she throws but after a flash of movement I parry 2 strikes but get hit 8 times directly after
Damn that stung I just fall to the ground. God damn it she was going easy on me that much and what kind of technique was that it was almost like there was 10 swords at that moment. She steps on my stomach I groan
"so now you understand the power difference don't get cocky I just went easy on you last time" she
said
"yes yes you're the strongest I've ever seen " I answered without much enthusiasm in response to the praise she smiled and looked do on me and left with a hmmph.
"She's a bit of sore loser huh" master Ryuu said over my shoulder slightly scaring me
"Yep most definitely a sore loser" I answered
He chuckled
"She works very hard to attain those skills though" he said thoughtfully

I was about to answer when he said
"Well let's get started with your training
After a couple hours he had me hit a training bag over and over while showing me new techniques and showing me how to use them. Time flew and it was time to return home. I hopped on my bike and rode home
"Dad I'm home" I yelled into the spacious house
"hey Arthur while we were looking through your room we found a box with a note in it" answered my
dad from upstairs I froze that was something I tried to avoid hide away for the rest of my life. Just thinking about it brung back painful memories that fateful day the folded piece of paper ever since his parents gave it to him before they left him he couldn't bring himself to open it.
"J.. Just leave it on the table by my bed" I answered while quivering
I sighed I was pathetic this piece of paper manages to bring me down when Amy couldn't even. I'll have to open it eventually anyways why not now I have to confront those old parents who I both love and hate. Conflicting emotions were banging in my head.
"They were great to you and brought you into this world" part of me screamed
"they left you...they left you in complete despair and loneliness" another part of me screamed god
damn it I laid down on the trying to calm my conflicted emotions. Which side is truly right I wondered but no matter how much I thought I couldn't answer that question. Sheesh and I thought I could open that piece of paper when I'm this weak a lousy piece of paper is causing me this much pain? I must be weaker than I thought. Some tears dripped from my eyes.

"Dad mom why .... Why did you leave me was I that bad of a son" I cried banging on the floor
"Arthur... Are you okay" my dad called down
"Yeah ... I'm .. I'm fine.." I answered while wiping away tears
I don't care about it anymore I'm open that piece of paper no matter what happens to me emotionally. I stormed up the stairs open the door to my room I pulled out a old rusted key put it in the box and opened it. It was dusty inside I had looked it away for 8 years there were cobwebs and grime all over the inside I took the piece of paper holding back tears and flipped it open it was a note and there was a amulet inside it was made of what looked to silver and encrusted with a diamond etched on the side it said Arthur pendragon. The I began to read the note dear Arthur from Mavis and Lewis
"sorry Arthur by the time you read this note we will have already left you and you should have been adopted hopefully they are better parents than us. So we are terribly sorry and we know we're horrible parents but. We have a reason for leaving you and you have the right to know it. As you know we were very poor but we wanted at least you to enjoy the life we never did. So we borrowed money from some people and although we were poor with the money we managed to raise you an apartment, keep food and table and even let you go to school but. .... That wouldn't last as we couldn't pay back the dept collectors fast enough and they threatened to kidnap you and force you to do labor or hand over the family heirloom. And we didn't want you to live the life we had to or give away what our ancestors passed down to us with kindness . So we left you in an amusement park and gave you the heirloom and committed suicide. I hope you forgive us and we can meet in the next life and we can be a proper family.
Oh and one last thing we know everyone shunned and bullied since you couldn't afford VR so if your new family has the money please try out VR we don't want you to turn out like us -Mavis and Lewis
I was shocked I stopped moving and tears wouldn't stop flowing from my eyes why I hated you when all of this... All of it it was all MY fault I'm horrible son and don't even deserve to be in this world. I was about to open my window and jump 3 stories when I calmed myself and thought about what I was doing. If I did jump I would just waste the life my parents worked so hard to keep they paid there lives to keep me alive if I jumped I would waste all of that. I stopped I wanted to make up for every thing I wanted to be the best VR player I had finally found a meaning to life. Resolve burned into my eyes brave adventure I will conquer you.
Sorry about the April fools late joke but yeah hopefully this really deep and eventful chapter made up for it. -Frostus

The Girl from the Mountain
Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
