《New Life》Chapter 163 - Chochica Empire (Part 5)

Mysterious planet:
Nazar and Lian appeared on it.
There was nothing on this planet but darkness.
They were about to be teleported out, but it was useless against Nazar.
“What… is this?”
It might have been useless but it made him struggle a little.
“This magic… it’s stronger than I have ever felt. I have been here once or twice before but could not stay here for more than a second.”
Nazar started to struggle.
He was very close to being teleported out.
“No...”
He felt his body being ripped apart.
So, he placed a powerful barrier around Lian.
She was about to be teleported out but he kept her on this planet.
The barrier was strong.
But even then, the barrier started to crack.
In the midst of all this, Nazar smiled.
“It’s a challenge then.”
“Wh-what are you--”
“Something I have never done before.”
Nazar held his palms together.
(Calculating...)
Between his palms, a very dark circle appeared.
The circle got bigger and bigger.
Nazar placed another barrier around themselves.
The black circle got as big as the barrier.
Inside the barrier was pitch black.
They could not see anything.
“You are very smart, aren’t you?”
“Oh, I am.”
The circle slowly started to vanish.
Or so it seemed.
No, it was just the colour of the circle changing.
It turned transparent.
“Wh-what just happened?”
Lian could not believe what she was seeing.
What even happened?
“I created another dimension and place us inside it. Then changed the design of the dimension.”
“S-so, we are in another dimension?”
Nazar nodded.
He looked proud of this achievement.
They could be clearly seen from the outside too.
But he did not care because no one seems to be here.
“Why are you so extra?”
“Hm?”
She sighed.
She was surprised.
No, she was more than surprised. She was in shock.
But as a professional, she could manipulate her body muscles easier.
She did not show that shocked expression for much longer.
“Nothing. You could have done something else.”
“Oh, yes, I could have. But why should I?”
She sighed.
She did not show it, but she was very impressed.
But then she remembered where she was.
She is on an unknown planet.
What is this planet? What secrets does it hold?
They were moving inside the new dimension.
No, the small dimension around them was moving.
“So, how did you first found out about this planet?”
“When I was young, I saw the High Priestess at that time, Luan, she was talking about a mysterious planet with someone. And stopped once I entered the room. So, one day I peeked and saw the coordinates. There was nothing supposed to be there. So, I tried visiting one day and I was teleported out immediately. So, even since then, I have been very interested in it.”

“Oh.”
Nazar thought about what she said.
When he saw Luan, the previous High Priestess, she seemed pretty young. So, if what Lian said is true, then she should have been at least 50 years old. But she looked young.
It is true that people of Chochica Empire age a little slower than humans but she looked very young. She seemed to be in her 20s.
While Lian looks older than how she looked like.
To Nazar, Lian seems to be around in her mid-20s.
“Wait, how old are you?”
“I am turning 30 next month.”
“I see. And how old is the High Priestess?”
“Well, she died at the age of...uh… she was in her 70s, I think. And she basically raised me.”
Nazar was surprised by that.
Seeing his surprised reaction, she decided she was to explain it to him before he asks a question.
“Making a High Priestess or a High Priest is hard. It requires them to be trained for at least three decades. The candidates are trained heavily. And at the end, they choose the one who has the highest scores.”
“Scores?”
“They go through tests. Tests their knowledge, magic, physical capabilities, survival skills and more. And how well they can run the empire. Once the right person is chosen, they are placed under a spell that will give them longevity.”
“Oh. And are the candidates chosen at random?”
“No. They are from noble families. They test them all and choose the best candidates.”
“That’s such a...”
“Weird way to choose the next ruler? Yes, I know. We are...weird.”
“...”
“They choose the nobles because they don’t like change.”
“Oh.”
“So, no matter who becomes the new ruler, the same rules will continue on. Rules will be the same and everything will also be the same. Nothing has changed for thousands of years.”
While he was having a conversation, Nazar was also doing something else.
“I have found a way to get rid of the illusion.”
He was also working on removing the illusion.
“Okay.”
He closed his eyes and…
“What the…?”
Lian could not believe what she was seeing.
She was surprised.
She was not surprised that they were surrounded by soldiers who were pointing guns at them.
“Are those…?”
Nazar tried to ask a question but he trailed off.
But she thought of an answer for him.
She looked around and saw the world around her.
“Slaves? Slaves traders? Death Squads? Magic based weapons? Magic books? Rare magic spells? Yes, they are.”
Nazar looked at her.
She looked angry.
“And it is run by my people.”
“Huh?”
“Look at the soldiers. They are soldiers from our empire. Those weapons are magic based weapons. Those are not supposed to be used because enough life force cannot be provided for it.”

Nazar looked around.
He used his nigh-omnipresence on this planet and immediately turned it off after a second.
“What the fuck?”
“What did you see?”
The people outside the barrier (and dimension) were holding weapons at them but Nazar and Lian did not care.
They knew that they would be safe here.
“Salves, torture, deaths, and so much more shit. What kind of place is this?”
“Damn it! What is going on here?”
Nazar made changes to the dimension they were in.
He could hear what they were saying outside.
“”
One of the soldiers said.
Nazar could understand what they were saying.
The soldiers were wearing all black armour that looked like a tight bodysuit. It covered their whole body except their face, which was covered in glass.
In their hands, they were holding a rifle that used magic.
They were holding the rifles to Nazar and Lian.
What they did not know was that Nazar and Lian were in a completely different dimension.
“”
Lian asked the person but she did not get a reply.
“”
They asked the same thing as earlier.
Nazar sighed.
“”
“”
Nazar did not want to hide where he was.
“”
“”
“” Lian shouted out.
Nazar looked at her.
She started to walk.
“Can you let me out?”
“Are you sure?”
She nodded.
Nazar placed a barrier around her.
He also made sure that she was still inside the new dimension he had created.
He also placed one around himself.
They did not have to stick together now.
“”
She asked one of the soldiers.
“”
The soldiers did not answer.
Why would they?
She did not have authority here.
“”
When the soldiers heard her, they were surprised.
“”
“”
“”
“”
There are only a few people who have Level 10 clearance. One of them is the High Priest. Another is the Archbishop of the Church of Michael.
Church of Michael is a church in the Chochica empire that has the biggest authority behind the High Priest. The church is also responsible for choosing and training the High Priest or High Priestess.
The church is named ‘ Church of Michael’ because Michael created these people. The same way how Lucifer created humans on Earth.
Lian thought about how many Level 10s are there. Besides the High Priest and Archbishop, she does not know the others.
She was too confused to think about why the soldiers knew her name and number. Her being the apprentice of Luan was a high-level secret. She did not know why but it was a secret.
“”
“”
The soldiers heard a voice behind them.
They looked back and saw the Higher Priest.
He looked like he was in his early 20s. He was a short but muscular man. He had white hair and blue eyes. He had a scratch on his right eye. Due to scratch, his right eye could not be opened properly.
He also gave off a dangerous aura.
Nazar felt the enormous magical power he was giving off. It was much bigger than Luan, whom he had seen not long before she died at the hands of Bur’goth.
The High Priest walked closer to where Lian was.
But he moved past her and looked at Nazar.
“The human, huh?”
“...”
“I have been meaning to meet you for a while now. But under these circumstances, we would have to ask you to leave and forget everything you saw here.”
“Oh? And if I don’t do as you say?”
“Well… uh... ”
He immediately took a step back and whispered something to Lian.
However, as he was so short, she could not hear him.
So, he raised his voice a little.
“”
Lian shook her head.
“”
“”
Lian answered without looking at him.
“”
She sighed.
“”
“”
The High Priest shrieked.
It was not like him to react like this.
“”
She was surprised by his behaviour.
“” Lian sounded disinterested.
She kept looking around.
Saw slaves being tortured and saw some people who looked like slave traders.
Nazar did not pay attention to the abnormal behaviour of the High Priest.
He looked beyond what the normal eye could see.
“You have torture facilities, where slaves are being tortured for enjoyment. You are also selling slaves. You are also selling advanced weapons to criminals. And something known the Magic Books. And as Lian said, you are also selling spells. Why?”
The High Priest walked closer to Nazar.
“”
“”
Hearing Lian’s request, he looked behind him and snorted.
“”
“”
The High Priest thought about it.
He then took out a device from his hand.
He looked at it for a minute and then let out an exasperated sigh.
“”
Lian was surprised by that.
“”
“”
“”
“”
The High Priest was surprised that Nazar knew their language but did not really care.
“”
“”
The High Priest nodded.
He looked proud.
“”
“”
Lian muttered that word under her breath.
What did it mean?
Is she not from Chochica Empire? Is she from somewhere else?
“”
The High Priest raised his hand a little.
His signalled the soldiers.
They all moved away.
There was no one for dozens of meters.
And it all took less than 20 seconds.
“”
What is normal in this world? Do the same rules apply here as well? Or is it different?
The High Priest took a deep breath and looked Lian in the eyes.
“”
Her mind went completely blank and froze in her place.

Poliagoras is the most important world in the Fabric partly due to it being the centre of everything both literally and metaphorically. Trade, commerce, travel, and politics are all conducted primarily on Poliagoras, it has the biggest city in the fabric stretching to cover almost the entire world. It also holds all the known Great portals in the Fabric which are the only way to travel to other worlds. Even without these things, Poliagoras would still be the most important world in the Fabric as it is home to the largest population of Favoured. They were mages chosen by the Deities and given the potential to become more than mortal. I cannot overstate how appreciated constructive criticism is. This is the first story I have written of my own volition so even a small comment on how I could improve would be great. The current title is most definitely a working one. I know it isn't great.
