Chapter 9 - Time for a duel
I stand in front of the School Arena, and the Arena is massive. (I think of the coliseum in Rome)
I walk towards one of the many entrances and proceed further to the fighting area.
Inside the Arena I see some people already waiting. And the bastard is already standing in the middle of the Arena. He is holding two wooden swords, as is seeing me coming he throws one sword on the floor and moves away and takes a stance.
The stance seems lousy maybe because he learned the stances only today. I jump into the fighting area and walk to the sword. There I pick it up and take some steps back to get into a stance myself.
I took a stance which my father recommended for doing 1vs1. I placed my left arm behind my back and placed my right foot a bit before my left foot. Brought the sword in a position where it was in held up in the middle before my face.
Before the match started I needed to do one last thing "Blood Enhancement" I spoke the words and my veins popped out slightly. Blood Enhancement is a beginner skill of Blood Magic and it strengthens the blood flow and the nourishment the blood is giving the body. The Magic will also grow stronger with each rank, a rank one cast will only strengthen the body for about 5% while a rank 10 cast will give you 150%.
I also have a skill which I will use against this fellow if he is better than expected "Blood Impair". This will slow down the flowing speed of blood and will do the opposite effect of "Blood Enhancement". So he will lose about 5% of his power.
"I am ready how about you?" I asked this bastard and he with a satisfied smile replied " I waited hours until you arrive of course I am ready!"

Someone who was assigned as referee counted 3.....2.....1.... FIGHT!
With that said the bastard kicked the ground and dashed towards me with his sword raised. As he was in front of me because I didn't move he slashed from my left shoulder diagonally downwards but it wasn't fast enough, so I took a step back and dodged.
Now he was enraged because he thought it would be an easy win for him, but unfortunately, Alex was pretty skilled with handling a sword. So he rushed in a bow towards me to try a back step but I moved to the side turned around and before he appeared in front of me I thrust my sword forwards.
The bastard was speechless because I hit him in the solar plexus and he frantically tried to breathe while he was kneeling on the ground. While he was trying to catch breath I took some steps back I got back into my stance and waited for him.
He needed about two minutes until he stood up again and focused his eyes on me. His satisfied smile long ago vanished and a rather ugly and angry face was now what I saw. While his eyes showed disbelief.
This time it was me who was on the offensive, so I was running straight to him without unnecessary movements. I closed the distance of 30 meters in 3 seconds and chopped with my sword against his left arm.
I was satisfied because I heard the sound of bones breaking, which was a sign, for me crushing his left arm. I then jumped back and immediately afterwards charged at him again. Meanwhile he was under immense pain and his left arm was hanging lifeless on the side while he frantically tried to hold the sword with the right hand to block the next attack.
I swung my sword against his, kicked against his right leg and he lost his balance. While he was falling to the ground I swung my sword again but this time against his right arm. My sword connected with his arm and there was the sound of bones breaking.

He was now lying on the ground with both arms crushed, tears in the eyes while screaming. I looked towards the referee and he understood.
"The Winner is Alex Peregontias, due to his opponent Fargus Dikenzie being unable to fight any longer"
The fight was over and the people that were watching the fight discussed with each other and slowly stood up and left the Arena. I canceled "Blood Enhancement" and slowly walked out of the fighting Area and then out of the Arena.
I walked from the Arena to the dining hall because lunch will be served soon and I don't want to miss that. As I entered the dining hall many students looked at me. and some girls were whispering while I walked past them.
'that feels quite good. haha I hope Nina likes me as much as those girls.' With that I found a girl with pink hair a still perfect body shape............ and a pretty angry expression. 'Shit did I do something I shouldn't? I can't remember making Nina angry with anything I did. So what's the case?'
As I sat down Nina frowned while her face was filled with disgust. So I ask "Hey Nina what's the case? It looks like you don't like me anymore." Nina looked at me and plainly said " Your fighting style is total shit. I mean if you have affinity for one of the rare elements. Then use this element and don't just use brute force." I wanted to say something but was interrupted "For example why didn't you use "Blood Edge" for you wooden sword or you could even have use "Spherical Blood" so tell me why haven't you done so?!"
I was at a total loss for words. That's not because I didn't knew what to say. It was because she was totally right. With "Blood Edge" I could have suppressed the healing of the body, by changing the blood properties inside the body which would have caused immense pain and could be only removed with healing Magic or me withdrawing the Magic.
"Spherical Blood" is even more terrifying, you form with little droplets of you own blood about five to ten blood spheres. Of course with a higher rank you are able to form more, but each sphere will be shot at the opponent and then out of the wounds of the opponent will new spheres be created and the opponent will be attacked again and again until he dies or the Magic is withdrawn.
So yes why didn't I use them. It could've been an easy win but I risked the chance of a loss due to me being filled with rage and entering a fight with relying on brute force. That is the simplest way of fighting but I want to become a Dual so I need to fuse Magic fights and Sword fights.
Nina seeing that I found out what I have done looked happy and asked what I want to eat and she would get it for me. Finding out that Nina only wanted to think again about how I fought and pointing out my failure during this fight was indeed not something she wanted to do. It was something she had to because I am currently the only other Blood Magic user in this Academy.

I tried my best at writing a fighting scene and yes I know I have to learn how to make
these fighting scenes interesting.
I still hope you enjoyed the chapter

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.

A Mildly Odd Reality Breaker
Omar receives an unexpected visitor who comes baring a gift—a "registration ticket"—in the form of a small metal card. The ticket is itself an offer to participate in the game, "Reality Break." Accepting this offer means that Omar will be able to perceive the true nature of reality where there is not one, but two dimensions of time, and in this second dimension history changes (and somewhat "frequently"). Along with this, he will also gain access to the "chronopause"; another reality that is not so much parallel to our own as it is perpendicular, which acts as both a place and the natural boundary between non-sequential points on the timeline. Using the chronopause, Omar will become a chrononaut with the ability to travel through time, and as a player, he will be given a cybernetic interface and his own portable extradimensional storage space. It's a strange conversation, but due to Omar's dismally short attention span, he only consciously hears that last bit about the portable pocket space, and that's only after the physics-defying void is opened in his living room and literally waved in front of his face. Reality is certainly stranger than most people realize, but then again, so is Omar. Thankfully, he responds well to shiny things, and for better or for worse, his chronic inattentiveness is the least of his psychological issues. Omar also has a mild form of "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" which presents itself as an occasional, arbitrary need to disobey others (especially authority figures). However, his oddest psychological issue by far is his "abnormally hyperactive" subconscious mind. Outwardly and consciously, Omar is a lazy, apathetic man-child prone to mildly asinine behavior. Subconsciously, he's some sort of genius capable of extraordinary feats of cognition. Most of the time, Omar is a (technically) functioning adult, but in order to live as such, he must rely entirely upon unusual abilities he's completely unaware of, despite the fact that he uses them regularly. Up until now, his life had merely been ridiculous, but now it was also a game. Note: The narrative style is that of a reliable narrator with a "3rd-person sarcastic" POV. This story takes place in the Reality Breakers/Chronopause universe.
