《Being Human (Completed)》A new world, A new city
Advertisement
Rosevalt, not quite a city and not quite a single stretch of land. You see this "city" is actually multiple floating islands connected together by ethereal roads made with magic, each island represents a house, a family. The larger the island the more power the family holds, but at the centre of it all lay three families who's roots run deep in the ground of Rosevalt, a large castle stands in the middle of these islands. The castle is owned by the three royal elven families, currently uninhabited as each family is at their homeland preparing for the Human Ambassador's arrival.
As William warps in with the rest he feels strange, different, energy running all throughout his body making him feel slightly sick. "Is this...Ughh....Some kind of after effects of using a warp?.."
Rel looks at him and inquires "What do you mean?"
He grabs hold of his collar "I feel horribly sick..."
Leya just shrugs it off "Must be a first timer's thing?"
Rel sighs and inspects William's face"No it shouldn't effect you in that way...Well it might just be a human thing as this magic was never tested on your kind before. We should take you to my father and the priests quickly, maybe he can fix you with some medicine."
William starts to look a bit green "Lead the way..."
Leya grimaces "Try not to puke on poor old Rax"
"No promises" William starts looking around
They made their way through the fields they appeared in and towards a large marble mansion, as they get close to the mansion William notices something, he sees the islands floating around in the sky.
William stares, unable to believe his own eyes "And how does that work exactly?...Shouldn't those islands... you know.. fall?"
Rel seems thrilled to explain"They are being held up by magic, it makes it harder for monsters to sneak into our households. We're on one right now actually"
William "That makes me feel even more sick..."
"Oh get over yourself wimp" Leya shakes him slightly
"Yeap...Definet.....Ughh" William bends to the side as a stream of rainbows showers the grass
"Woah woah away from the boots! AWAY from my boots!" Leya starts to freak out as she is sitting behind William and starts to move more to the back.
Rax is annoyed at this and starts jumping around, Leya and Rel successfully hold on but William was not so lucky. In a comical sight, he is thrown off and lands right in a certain puddle...
William rises into a sitting position "You gotta be fucking shitting me..." he's splattered with multicoloured patches of....liquid....with bits...

Both girls are laughing at this sight
Leya taps Rax's back "Ni...Nice going Rax"
"I'm sorry... I can't stop..." Rel tries to hold a laugh in from escaping.
William is annoyed and deliberately climbs back up on Rax without trying to clean some of it off, Rax does not notice but Leya and Rel make it a point for him to keep distance. They arrive at the entrance of the mansion and hop off Rax.
Leya grabs on to Rax "I'll take Rax to the back"
Rel nods and turns to William."Alright, Let's go...Oh right your name, what should we call you?"
William:(Right... things went so fast I almost forgot)
Before William could introduce himself an Elf comes out of the mansion looking very worried and frustrated
Rel jumps slightly "Father?"
The new Elf looks exhausted "Oh my why...How? What are you doing here human? We thought your arrival was delayed!"
"Oh..Uhh...I was transported to the..." William tries to explain but is eventually cut off by Rel
"Burnt rain forest, we found him their being attacked by a Void Wyvern. Warped back here to come speak to you quickly."
"Warped? Oh my you must feel terrible right now...Rel you exposed him to magic and unlocked his mana" The man seems slightly disappointed
Rel glances at William "That would explain the vomiting..."
The man turns to the door only to turn around again"Ah yes....vomit...Come on in let's get you cleaned up my boy. Oh right what may be your name?"
"I'm William Smith,sir?"
"Loke Runewalker, High elf diplomat to the Magi Alliance, I shall be your guide throughout your journey." Loke gives a bow
"Magi Alliance?" William questions
Loke ponders for a second "Yes yes, everything has it's time, I shall explain once we've gotten you cleaned up. Oh right and this is my daughter Rel Runewalker and that over there taking Rax is Leya Stesfal, who should be home training. Your brother's been worried"
Leya shrugs"Ah he'll be alright, ain't the first time I ditched him to hunt."
Loke urges them inside"Hmm..Anyhow let's go inside"
He shows William to what looks like a bathing room, brings him a change of clothes and turns on a crystal that starts to fill the tub. After William has cleaned himself up and changed he comes out of the room where Loke and Rel have been waiting for him, they show him to an other room which looks to be a living room with large glass panes all over one of the walls giving a great view of the field and islands, they sit at a circular couch and Loke starts to speak.

"I'm sure the Gods have explained some things to you correct?" He sits at the edge of his seat
William starts to become anxious at the prospect of answers "Yes.. I have been chosen to prove whether or not our races can co-operate and live together as one community"
Loke does a gesture with both hands, as in preparation for a lecture"Basically yes but it is a tad more complicated, you were chosen not only for your average physic which is a minimal requirement for surviving in our dangerous world but also for your unorthodox personality and life choices. I would love to speak to you as to how and why you have decided to literally do nothing with your life but that's a discussion for another time... "
"Ok.." William shifts uncomfortably in his seat
"Do you have any knowledge on our world's geography, nationals and racial alliances?" Loke brings out a book, seemingly mostly images.
William is also on the edge of his seat now"No I have not been told anything about all that"
Loke starts showing William some pages of the book as he explains "Ah, very well we shall continue from there then. You see our world is about ten times larger than yours but only has four mega continents and no known islands or other small continents, each continent has grown and become it's own nation, a single territory. The four continents use to have names but are now simply referred by the nation that owns them, those empires being; The Elvin Empire, The Orc Horde, The Drakon Empire and the Dwarven Empire. Each empire is mainly controlled by a prime race who holds most of the resources but shares those resources with the other races that live on the continent making an alliance with those races, there are three alliances; Our Magi Alliance who's member races are; Elves(Dark Elves, High Elves, Wood Elves),Giants(Giants, Rock Giants, Treants), Faes(Fairies and Sprites) and WereBeasts(Weremen and SpiritBeasts). The Monstra Alliance has; Orcics(Orcs, Goblins,Trolls), Drakons(Drakelings and Gorgons),Mers(Mermen and Fishmen) and the Aracnids. The final alliance is the Trade and Commerce Alliance who's members are; Dwarfs(Stone Dwarfs, Elder Dwarfs and Mountain Dwarfs), Demons(Imps, Elemental Demons and Abyssals) and Avians(Furies)"
"So what kind of Elf are you two?" William asks wide eyed
Rel is the one to respond tho "We are High Elves, the most noticeable difference is our height compared to Wood Elves who are approximately your height and Dark Elves who's skin is different shades of Blue, purple and grey."
Loke continues after her "Although we also differentiate in magic as well, each race holds its own specialised magic, High Elves have Spirit and Summoning, Wood Elves have Nature Magic, Dark Elves have Rune tempering and inscribing. Although all races have access to all magic types it is impossible to learn them all, it is common practice to only learn two to three different types of magic and having your specialised or racial magic as one of them is the smartest thing to do."
William is basically off his seat with excitement now "So what is our racial magic? Do we even have one?"
Loke:"The Gods have told us that your race's magic although untrained has diverted towards Spiritual Magic and Elemental Magic, Spiritual Magic is the power to connect with the spirit world and to be loaned the power of which ever spirit you contract with. Elemental magic is exactly what it sounds like, each individual has an elemental connection, rarely two. Would you like to see what is your connection?"
"You can teach me magic?" William asks, fidgeting with his hands
Loke opens his arms wide"Well yes of course, it is one of my duties, to ascertain how strong a magical connection your race currently has as it will aid in the balancing of your world. "
William nods "Alright, what do I do?"
"Rel dear, bring me a scribing stone"Loke turns to Rel
She gets up and goes out of the room, after minute or so she returns with a flat circular crystal, with different sections being coloured differently like a pie chart
"Since your mana was already unlocked all you need to do is put your hands above the stone and pour your mana into it, picture it, your very being flowing into your palms and out into the stone."
William eyes the stone "Will this make me sick again?"
Loke chuckles "Worry not, that was temporary due to the unprotected unsealing of your mana ley lines, they are basically veins which reside in the spirit world and flow mana from your spirit into your body"
William reaches for the stone, still unsure"Well... Here we go then.."
William places the stone on his lap and hovers his hands on top of it. He starts to feel it, his mana flowing through his body as if he was tapping into a lake from an other plane of reality, he let's it pour into the stone.
The stone starts to vibrate, and his mana becomes visible to the naked eye, flowing into the stone. The stone starts to shine brightly and starts to float and spin uncontrollably.
"By the Gods...William..."

Author: Hope the explanation of the world was sufficient for now :), wonder why that stone is going nuts? Find out next time :D.

The Glyph Queen
When Winnie was thirteen, her settlement taught her how to fire a rifle. Her school practiced drills in case raiders came, and the town grew crops in their greenhouse-adapted homes, which were the only places warm enough during the worldwide nuclear winter. The Lakiran empire invades—a corporate-born nation overseen by their corporate-born queen, Victoria Paladino. They ride silent planes whose repulsion field veered bullets away. Three years of occupation later, an exemplar visits—a member of Victoria’s oversight committee rumored to read minds. He tells Winnie that she may have a unique mental power, or a flair. At the empire’s capital, the queen herself tutors Winnie to help her reach the full potential of whatever power she may have. Meanwhile, in post-war Nigeria, a streetwise teenager named Naema sees a different side of the empire. Between corruption and oppression, everyone lives in squaller. People fight over assembled food pastes. She too is told she has a unique flair, not by the empire, but by a fugitive woman who is the last vestige of an ancient witch coven, and she knows a dark secret about what the exemplars do to people like Winnie and Naema.
