《Excursion Book 1, The Goblin Curse. First arc.》Chapter 15 A Decisive Encounter

Zee and Jake finally made it to town. Jake is far ahead of Zee since Zee isn’t as fit as Jake.
Zee had to stop for a breather, then Jake shortly afterwards stopped to check on Zee. Zee motioned him to go ahead into town, Jake nodded and then sprinted further to the northern part of town.
Zee caught a glimpse from his eye of a shadow of a goblin archer looming from an alleyway that Jake just ran by. Before Zee could yell out to Jake to watch for his back, he immediately pointed his left hand like an improvised hand gun, and fired off a light green ray straight into the goblin’s left eye socket.
Before the goblin could fall limp, it disappeared into dust.
Right when that happened, another goblin with a sword and wooden shield, loomed from an alleyway opposite from the archer. He was looking at Jake sprinting off into the distance but then noticed his partner dissipating into dust, leaving behind his belongings.
The swordsman goblin turned to face Zee, dodging his second ray of light green light, hitting a wall only to slowly creep its way down, dissolving the paint on the stone wall as it goes down.
The goblin shouted out a battle cry and ran towards Zee, raising his sword in his right hand, pointing it forward as his left hand held the shield to block any other missile Zee may launch.
Zee let out a sigh while closing his eyes, as he backs up, waving his arms around in the air. He concentrated himself, despite having a bloodthirsty goblin out for his life charging at him. He sensed the water molecules on the ground ahead of him through the flow of mana in his surroundings. He swayed his left arm and grasped his left hand, causing the goblin’s feet to freeze from the little bits of rain water and puddles that he’s running through. With his right arm and hand, he hooked his arm to his chest while keeping the palm of his right hand flat, causing the mud to swirl around the goblin’s feet, making the goblin trip and fall to the ground.

With the ice around the goblin’s anklets, Zee concentrated on them as a base, and poured his mana causing them to stab immediately into its legs. Severing his ankles off, Zee opened his eyes and nearly gasped in disbelief. “Are you kidding me?!” The Goblin started to crawl his way towards Zee like a zombie, not even showing any signs of pain, just his relentless bloodlust.
In response, Zee fetched another vial out of his belt, this time it’s filled with green liquid. He popped the cork off and chugged it down his throat, while walking backwards. He immediately stopped, trying to stomach the liquid, due to being nearly out of breathe, and expending his mana for the spells he casted.
The goblin crawled its way closer, keeping a weary look on Zee, attempting to block whatever Zee throws at it with its shield.
Zee spotted a couple of potted plants on a window sill nearby, a bit of a way before the goblin.
Zee quickly grabbed a glob of mud and molded it into three pebbles. He controlled the water molecules with his own mana to move them out of the mud to harden them into a more solidified state, and then he hurled them with his left hand, at the potted plants to knock them down onto the goblin.
The goblin noticed them, so he moved his shield above his head. At that moment, Zee swung his body around, to throw another ray of acid at the goblin, but this time with his right hand. The goblin realized the diversion with its unnatural reflexes, moved its shield in front of his face.
The ray completely missed its mark on the goblin, not even hitting his shield. Instead it hit the ground in front of him. The potted plants, however, one hit and cracked on top of the goblin’s head, the other hitting and cracking on his back.

Zee closed his eyes again, as he focused the mana flowing around the dust of the cracked plant. He swung his left arm straight in front of him, his palm moving to the right as if he’s slapping an invisible face. The dirt from the potted plant crept down the goblin’s right side of his face, then slid to his left side, covering his whole face with mud. The entire time, he was focusing the rain water to form up above the goblin’s spine with his right hand while its swirling around.
With his left hand, he poured his own mana to solidify the water into a big icicle, and then drove it down into the goblin’s spine. The goblin soon dissipated into dust, leaving behind its mud covered gear.
Zee fell to his right knee, almost vomited, but forced himself not to. He sat back, gasping for air, while he looks around his surroundings to spot any more goblins. He didn’t see anymore, he closed his eyes to calm his body down from the adrenaline. ‘Man, I guess I should start going to Kent’s practices more often’ Zee Thought. He even remembered Korahk’s lecture to him this morning, about how he should improve his skills so that it could save his life.
After he calmed down a bit, he got up and walked towards the goblin’s gear. He picked the sword up and took it with him, then he headed towards the archer’s gear.
‘It’s a good thing this one has a bow and arrow, since I left mine in the woods. I’m nearly drained out of my mana from that exhausted struggle over there.’ He took his hat off with his left hand, while holding onto the short sword. He picked up the quiver and slung it over his shoulders, then placed his hat back on. ‘It’s a good thing I practiced with the bow. Not much with the sword… But it’s better than nothing.’ He thought, as he picked up the bow with his right hand.
‘I hope Jake hasn’t run into any of them as well. If he has, I hope he felled them off as quickly as possible. These lil sluggers make more than a good work out.’ Zee thought as he looked down into both alleyways.
‘I can feel the effects of that potion, slowly rejuvenating me. I just have to keep a low profile as I advance deeper into town…’ worried Zee as he keeps a low silhouette, while looking around town for any signs of goblin activity before he moves around. ‘I just hope everyone’s alright…’ grimaced Zee.

DROPPED. The story focuses less on dungeon building than on the why of dungeons and how they fit into the universal order. While I am working from a grand plot, the writing is going slice of life style because I need to do that to work out how things progress into that grand plot. The original story seed idea / synopsis is below. The Grand Tapestry protects Rhofhir from Primal Chaos by imposing Order via patterns. However, the patterns grow stiff, stagnant, and so the Tapestry is nearing a time of Unraveling. Evidence of past civilizations wiped out during previous Unravelings foreshadow the apocalyptic catastrophe looming over the world. The mages of the Arcane Asylum reach out across dimensions, searching for some way to prevent, or at least stall, the coming Unraveling. Among the many voices they find is a gifted graduate student researching machine-assisted telepathy -- and his gaming group. Lena never expected that the chance to play DnD with telepathy would result in her becoming an actual Dungeon Master, nor that her friends could become the bosses of her dungeon. This is, in many ways, her dream come true, but there's a catch: What happened to Brad, the creator of that telepathy machine?
