*Clang Clang* The sharp clattering of metal striking against metal fills the air of the blue grass prairie.
"Haha! Kid, you have no chance against me!" A tall green man with a boar like face yells loudly, his eyes filled with contempt toward the youth in front of him.
"Keh, nasty ogre man! How should you know whether I can beat you or not?" The youth completely covered in thick blood red plate armor shouts back to the ogre. Sanguine fluid floats around the youth constantly changing form as if it had a conscience of it's own.
Spiritual energy surged forth from the two of them, invisible to ordinary people this battle of wills results in a draw. The orc withdraws his dark purple aura and the youth retracts their golden aura. The orc's rippling muscles indicate his resolve in a close quarters match, he takes a charging stance before pouncing towards the youth.
"What happened to me standing no chance, now you have to face me directly?" The youth smirks behind the shield of their helmet before leaping forth to meet the orc. Sweeping their hand claws formed from the sanguine liquid deflect the first battleaxe causing pieces of sharp metal to splinter off.
"Heh, you're much stronger than I thought you to be." The orc's confidence wanes in response to the strange skill of the youth, but the orc does not retreat. Using the momentum from the deflected axe the orc swings their offhand battleaxe for a much faster attack. "DIE!"
Drawing their hand back the youth concentrates the blood in front of themself. "Burst forth!" The blood explodes forward from a double palm strike, breaking the orcs stance, and causing minor lacerations across their body.
"What the hell kind of attack?" The orc is clearly startled after the surprising burst of power.

"Your talent is only so-so." The youth continues to insult the orc after repelling his twice failed attacks.
"You little- I'll teach you!" The orc releases a large quantity of spiritual energy, the dark energy encompasses his form slowly changing his appearance.
"A transformation?" This was a skill not typically possessed by orcs, so the youth was surprised that it was a transformation.
"Darkness, engulf my being and destroy my enemy, [Shadow Contract]!" The hazy purple aura of the boar faced man changes to black before melding completely with his body. His green skin no where to be has been replaced with pitch black. His previously bare skin now covered in intricate white magical symbols. "Kahahha! Time to meet the god of death, brat."
Before the youth has time to fully react a battleaxe of darkness manifests in the orcs hand and swings down towards the youth. Without time to dodge the youth puts their faith in the strength of their armor. The sound of wind tearing follows the terrifying battleaxe. Using their right hand the youth pushes the battleaxe behind them before sending their right leg out to kick the orc's abdomen. The orc doesn't block the attack reinforced by the formless blood, but instead takes the attack head on with their extremely sturdy body.
The orc releases the battleaxe which vanishes into smoke using his freed hands to grab the youths leg. Using their inhuman strength the orc lifts up the youth before slamming them head first towards the ground, but the youth manages to maneuver out of it. Using the levitating pool of blood as a cushion the youth frees themself from the orc by releasing the blood armor around their leg, and then uncomfortably roll to land on their feet in a crouched position. After landing the blood reforms the lost piece of armor.

Attempting to surprise the blood-red figure the orc fires a stream of dark energy from their palm, but the youth's quick reflexes and strong control over the blood surrounding them meets the stream of dark energy easily repulsing it.
Anger fills the orcs face as their numerous attempts to defeat the seemingly weaker opponent has met with failure each time. "You. Not allowed. To live." The orcs words become much simpler as the dark energy begins to sap their intelligence turning them something much more akin to a beast. Various streams of dark energy are propelled in different positions of the orc's body before heading to meet at the youth.
The mysterious blood forms into a whip. The whip lashes out with a thunderous explosion splitting into multiple points each one meeting a stream of darkness. It's unknown whether the youth has a high skill in the use of weapons, or if their control over the blood's form is exceptional, but either way the feat is incredibly performed.
"RAARGH!" The orc releases a bestial cry pouncing recklessly towards the youth. The black energy transforms into a sharp claws sharper than that of any normal beast.
Seeming to slide across the ground the youth appears to the side of the airborne orc.
"The moment you lost your intelligence was the moment you lost to me." The youth releases these few words quietly, but cold enough to send chills up one's spine. They slap their hand downwards bringing the blood down on the orc's back at an extreme speed.
A thunderous explosion sounds out followed by a bone-chilling scream. The darkness slowly dissipates into the air and the skin of the orc returns to the sickly green that it was originally. Blood slowly trickles out of the orc's mouth, the flow is probably slowed due to the now deformed shape of the neck.
Forming a dagger the youth plunges it into the back left side of the orc. After cutting through the bones the youth digs the heart out of the orc with their hand before tossing it into the blood they control.
"Ughh, I don't think I'll ever get used to this. At least I don't feel it with these gauntlets." After voicing a few complaints the youth dusts off imaginary dirt and leaves the scene of the battle.

Witchbone: The Goblins Winter
Themes found in these stories include friendship, found family, defying negative expectations, trying to figure out how to be a force for good in your corner of the world, doing heroic things even if you don't look or feel like a hero, and that being different isn't necessarily fatal. Summary: A spell of arctic weather. A mysterious death. The reading of a will. Strange tracks in the snow. Eleven-year-old Danny Hallow accepts his life, such as it is. His father is dead, his mother left years ago. His three Keepers are the only people aware of Danny's erratic and not-very-impressive psychic abilities. He has no friends, he's been suspended from school, and he's responsible for the life of a small brown bat that's ended up in his care. When Danny's estranged Uncle Enoch dies under mysterious circumstances, he and his Keepers are called to the town of Eddystone, New Hampshire for the reading of the man's will. Traveling four hundred miles from his dreaded hometown to attend, Danny is happy to get away, possibly inherit something interesting- and maybe find out more about his family while he's there. Arriving at the crumbling family estate of Gnomewood Home, he finds it to be hauntingly familiar, a bit creepy, oddly comforting, and possibly alive. When his uncle's will reveals that he's inherited Gnomewood and everything in it, he's determined to stay and make a happier life for himself in Eddystone, somehow. But at Gnomewood, he finds more questions than answers to his family's secrets. Disturbing old memories come to him in dreams. His psychic abilities begin to grow stronger, and as a result he becomes aware that a horde of cryptic creatures are plaguing the town of Eddystone, seemingly drawn out by the spell of an unusually frigid February. Toothy little goblins that are sneaky, vicious, and hungry. Goblins that take a particular interest in Danny. Will the emergence of the alien, and potentially dangerous, power he's inherited from his peculiar family tree help Danny survive the goblin infested winter, inadvisable attempts to befriend a terrifying boy with silver eyes, and a new school? Only if he learns to control them before they put him and everyone around him in danger. Before they convince some people that he should never have been allowed to exist at all. Before he becomes just another twisted tale in his family's bizarre history, kept hidden for centuries within the ivy-covered walls of Gnomewood Home.
