"Jordan, I'm heading out." Maddy peaks into the workshop and waves to me.
"Take care!" I smile and wave back.
After I wave back she turns and heads further up the stairs.
____
Entering into the portal directory the young woman greets the portal master.
"Hello Erz, I am wondering if you can retrieve mail from here."
"Yes of course I can Lady Raven, please wait a moment."
In just a few seconds a purple orb appears from seemingly nothing and lightly hovers in front of Maddy. Reaching her hand into the orb she pulls out a number of envelopes and folded papers. Envelopes can hold small amounts of gold and are often used to transfer small funds. Folded papers are just that, they generally carry messages. Opening the first folded paper she skims it before tossing it behind her and calling [Delete]. Many letters users may receive are spam from people attempting to sell gold. Even though botting is not possible in virtual reality gold farming still exists to a certain extent.
"Oh! What's this?" Maddy looks at the last letter in the pile, this letter is sealed with blood red wax stamped with a familiar design.
"Dear Rxxxx, it is your old acquaintance Cxxx Rxxxxx. I do hope that you are still in the business of managing certain transactions. South of the city you were most recently spotted in there is a medium sized military fort. Within this fort is a warrior of a high ranking famed for invincibility. Should your objective be completed you shall be rewarded with a rather unique stone."
Folding the letter back up ad placing it into her bag Maddy immediately uses the gateway to return to the human city. She brings her hood over her head and wraps the cloak around her body in attempt to conceal her identity. The cloak has the appearance of the night sky emblazoned onto it. She walks to a nearby sign to find which way is south, then immediately heads in that direction.

Before she can reach the base two guards approach her.
"Are you Raven?"
Maddy automatically stiffens in response to their questioning. She reaches for her blades, but the guards quickly speak to calm her down.
"We have a mutual friend, we are here to assist you on your mission."
Nodding in response her shrouded face causes the guards to grow weary of her. They quickly lead her to the back of the medium fort to a trap door.
"This door is used to bring in more err- illicit goods. This passage leads to your targets room."
The two guards each grab one handle of the door and open it for Maddy. She silently heads downwards into the dark passage.
Nearing the target Maddy's mind drifts to think about the treasure she can receive after killing the target. The first target she killed for this person got her a translucent gem, yet she doesn't know what it's for. After entering a well sized room she spots a tall golden haired man snoozing in a chair.
In attempt to take advantage of the perfect situation she draws her two magical daggers and darts towards the man. With her left hand she plunges one dagger through back of the man's neck while her right hand's dagger bursts forth into the center of his back. After landing two fatal blows she drops her guard and pulls the daggers out of the man.
"Raven, be cautious. We were not able to take that man's soul." Lin, a spirit of one of the dagger's voice sounds out.
Before Maddy has time to react to this news the mans left fist flys behind him in attempt to back hand Maddy, but due to her quick reaction time this attack fails. She attempts to flee, but this man is also rather quick. Pulling a blade from his waste he lunges towards Maddy, but she manages to parry the blow with her daggers. A flurry of blows rain out between the two, but the difference in strength is too high. The gold haired man's strength is much higher than Maddy's, yet his movement speed is roughly equal. The only way for her to win is using skills.

In a blur of motion she appears behind the man and plunges her daggers into his back once again, only for the man to turn around once again. The man begins laughing as he sees victory in his grasp. Parrying the sword strikes with one dagger Maddy reaches into her bag and pulls out a vial. Pouring the contents into her mouth her form quickly vanishes.
After receiving more invisibility potions from Jordan she had used one of the three. This golden haired man is much stronger than she would have thought.
Three days pass in game and she goes back once again to attack the man. His over confidence led him to drop his guard once more. While travelling down the passageway she places down a number of traps. If the man won't fall from her daggers she will try to kill him with traps.
"This guy is really frustrating." After placing a fourth trip wire she pops around the corner and sees the man once again.
"Oh, you've returned!" While his guard may have been lowered, it was not so low as to be sleeping once again. In a broad movement his blade travels downwards towards Maddy who aptly dodges. The same flurry of blows that had marked their previous battle continues three days later. As they fight Maddy seems to be pushed back, but she was really luring him back into the passageway.
"Not gonna turn invisible this time huh?" The man's confidence continues to grow as he attempts a powerful combination attack.
After nearly receiving two attacks the third attack suddenly stops. The mans left foot clumsily strikes the corner of the wall. Collapsing onto the floor the man's blood, propelled from his mouth strikes the floor. A look of horror spreads across his face as Maddy learns his one weakness, his toes. Charging forward Maddy's foot reaches the man's face kicking him backwards. His strength is drastically weakened and his speed is non-existent. This is the perfect chance.
Maddy quickly stomps with her left foot onto the man's right foot. A horrifying scream resounds through the underground room as the man once again coughs up a mouthful of blood. Slightly shifting she stomps on his left foot with her left foot, and the man's topples over.
"So close to getting treasure!" Maddy stabs through the man's neck to receive a proof of his death, his head. After removing his head she places a small black handkerchief onto the ground, inside the handkerchief is a rather ominous bloodstone circle. She places the head in the center of these stones and a bright red glow fills the room. After a few pulses of light the head disappears along with any blood that dripped onto the handkerchief. In place of the head is a small slightly shiny stone.
"Cool, I love this stone that I worked so hard for, yet has no significant value." Maddy seems rather happy about the pointless object and returns to the tower. "[Tower Return]".

Et Non Lucem
A lonely fortress, a (slightly) deranged assassin, secrets, intrigue, magic and war. What could possible go wrong? If you've ever wondered what would happen if somebody attempted to blend a realistic medieval world with fantasy, then this is for you. If you've ever wondered what happens when you stick some (extremely) flawed humans into positions of power and try making them save the world, then this story is for you. Or if you're simply bored and can't seem to decide on a new story to read, then this story is for you! This is my first ever attempt at writing a story after years and years of reading, so any and all constrictive criticism is appreciated!

Thief of Time
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Book 1: The Legend of Tot Synopsis: Claud Primus, a self-declared master thief, has a simple goal. To live forever. It's a rather easy task, for miraculous objects called lifestones are able to extend one's lifespan. These lifestones are best found in the treasuries of nobles, lovely resorts that Claud pays a visit to every so often. Unfortunately, one of those nightly visits go awry, and Claud is forced to escape with just a single lifestone and a box in hand. Normally, that's when things die down. The guards yawn, the gates close, and the night continues. But this time, the night isn't that forgiving. A dozen schemes result in the murder of someone important, and with a convenient scapegoat — Claud — at hand, it doesn't take long for him to be framed as a heinous criminal, wanted for the indirect murder of someone high up...and it just gets worse from there. Book 2: The Moon Lords' Rise Synopsis: As ordered chaos sweeps across Licencia, Claud leaves for Julan Barony, intent on making some profits there. Accompanied by the erstwhile heiress of Julan, a fellow member of the Moon Lords, the two plot against the barony's wealth...as well as a promise to bring about its downfall. Meanwhile, back home, the Moon Lords have busied themselves with digesting their gains. Eyes, however, are beginning to turn to this proverbial fish in a small pond. The fishermen are coming. When they cast their hook, what will Dia and the others do? Book 3: Murders under the Moons Synopsis: In the sleepy town of Nachtville, where Claud and Lily are forced to stop at, a set of nasty murders occurs. Victims scream out in fright, before a spear falls from the sky to end their suffering. Cowed and cautious, the master thief and his partner slink in the shadows, their objective that of home... A new task, however, has fallen on Dia. With a trusty helper at her side, she has to set off towards Nachtville itself, to solve the mystery Claud had abandoned. Faced with an enemy whose sole skillset is geared towards killing, how will they succeed? And what dark secrets will they find? Book 4: In the Dark of the Moons Synopsis: The year has ended. The four months of the full moons will soon be followed by two months of the new moons. Duke Istrel's ascension is around the corner. Amidst this political upheaval, Count Nightfall, Licencia's strongest defender, has been called away. The Moon Lords' largest task yet — to protect Licencia in the absence of its ruler — has begun. And yet, trouble is unrelenting. A distinguished personage, one that Claud fears, has been found dead in the county, his brains dug out and his body disemboweled. The inquisitors of the White Church have been dispatched to investigate and apprehend the murderer...as well as the person behind this puppet. Tormented by a call to fight, Claud directs his eyes out of the city, looking for the puppetmaster. Skulking in the shadows, the master thief will soon confront his greatest foe yet. A foe just like him. Book 5: Moonlit Tides and Darkened Seas Synopsis: A new era has begun. For the privileged, the sands of time dribble away for every passing moment, counting down to the arrival of a entity of mythical proportions. The night now harbours shadows and fog, and operatives of the Moons and the Dark clash in shadow. Claud, as usual, is investigating a spate of nasty disappearances in the city, but little does he know what these disappearances truly mean. And yet, a tide is coming. When it finally breaks, what will he do? Book 6: Secrets in Shadow Synopsis: The person behind a strike that would enter the annals of history flees his home, bringing with him the person closest to his heart into a new land and into a new world. Having left Istrel for the first time in his life, the two of them attempt to settle down in foreign lands, only to be caught in the middle of hostilities between two mighty powers grappling for dominion. Yet, none of that has anything to do with him. Following his desires, Claud eventually makes his way to the fabled Celestia Ruins, a fragment of another world. Bearing witness to truths he cannot yet comprehend, he returns from his exploration, a small break away from the machinations of destiny. One thing, however, is for certain. Destiny will not wait for him. Book 7: Reddest Rage Synopsis: Destiny churns on, heedless of mortal machinations, and Claud watches as the battlegrounds between the Moons and the Dark are drawn up. With the forces of the great Dark occupying Lostfon, Claud comes to a startling realisation — that he may have very well be a murderer of heinous proportions. Grappling with that realisation, he struggles to prepare for his Second Tutorial... Back in Istrel, Dia finds herself confronted with a perennial truth. Even in a time of writhing destiny, the machinations between nobles never cease to end — and unfortunately for her, the group once known as the Moon Lords are forced into dealing with a petty squabble between two counts. What they didn't account for, however, was the startling discovery they would soon make... And the shadow of the Red God's Holy Son behind it all. Book 8: Darkness Descends Synopsis: Nightmares haunt the horizon as Claud sinks and awakens from a seeming dream. What was once illusory begins to play out before him, in a way he cannot imagine. Dia, forced to wield arms, begins and ends a battle that opens her eyes to the vast dangers that lurk in this sundered world. Under the banner of humanity and divinity, she beholds the silent, forgotten protectors of Orb...but there is no forgetting the battle between the divinities. The Dark descends, the Moons writhe, and the horns of war blow once more. But this is not their battle. Not yet. Book 9: Moons Muster Synopsis: As more and more events fall into place, Claud finds himself desperate. Not for himself, but for the person who has turned into his world. Armed with the knowledge of a certain future, he approaches the only person that could possibly help him in his time of need, trading information for a promise of help. With that as solace, he returns to the grim task of understanding and seeking, revisiting an ancient, shattered fragment of another world...unleashing changes that he never knew was possible. Back in Istrel, Dia and the others must now navigate around a familiar spirit, who seeks to investigate the death of his master's Bearer. With them as prime suspects, the Seekers of Life must move carefully...but the Coloured Gods are not the only divinities eyeing them closely. The Moons, bristling from repeated defeats, are looking for new recruits, and the Seekers of Life are prime cannon fodder. Above all, destiny marches on, the unfeeling clock a warning to all. The Trial of Aeons will soon arrive. Book 10: Destiny Divine Synopsis: ??? Release frequency: one every few days or something, I guess. (This work is also being serialised on Webnovel under the name Revile as a trial run)
