《Limitless》Chapter 9 - A completely ordinary girl?

Two soft arms reached out towards Wess in a gentle manner and wrapped around Wess's neck. They lightly tugged at him slightly to no reaction, noticing he was not going to wake up they started dragged him towards the forest.
"Wuh! Where am I?" Wess looked around the room he was and it seemed like a standard commoner's home. There was a light brown-coloured girl with fiery red hair. She looked completely ordinary except for the hair, which caused more alarm for Wess.
"You are in my hut in the forest. I was the one who dragged you here, seeing you in the forest caused me to do this as I did not want to see you dead."
"How do I get out of here?" Wess didn't want to stay any longer with this mysterious girl than he needed to. She sent chills down his spine.
"You can get out of here easily, just walk through the door." The girl pointed at the girl. "However to stay alive once you walk out will be hard."
"Why did you bring me here?"
"I brought you here because you seem like someone who can help me."
"Help you with what?" Said Wess with slightly sarcasm in his voice. She is much stronger than him, what could he help her with? Her talent was also obviously much better as she was only a few years older than Wess.
"I need to shed my skin to attain the level 4. I cannot do that safely so you'll need to protect me during that time." Her sentence caused Wess's mouth to instantly flap open. She was almost the same as the previous girl, however that girl seemed to have a noble aura around her. This meant she may of just had help from pills, but this girl was completely ordinary. This must've meant this girl has monstrous talent.

"Why do you need my protection? Do you not have any friends?"
"No I do not.... Well I do, but I can't trust them to not stab me in the back. We animals don't care about face, it's survival of the fittest."
"So why trust me?"
"Cos I can? Just joking, I could kill you even when shedding. All you need is to hide me and I'm fine, well you'll need to hide me in a remote location with no magical beasts or human experts."
"What if I don't want to?"
"Well you can try surviving alone against all these animals. Also I won't help you in any way, so don't think of taking advantage of me. Even if you die it doesn't matter much because I can just get a new host. I will still pay you with a pill used for breakthroughs and a skill, I'm not someone who takes advantage of others." With this the girl disappeared, leaving only a slight mist. A snake tattoo formed on Wess's shoulder.
"Is this your form? And will anyone be able to notice it?" Wess had calmed down quickly thanks to his training on the waterfall. He asked questions to see if he could get any information out of this girl.
"1. Duh. 2. No, unless they have obtained Hero Realm. 3. Call me Sereda. 4. Don't think of betraying me, well unless you wanna die."
"Hero Realm? What is that?" A question mark covered Wess's face, what's the Hero Realm?
"No need to know." With this the sounds of snoring was heard inside Wess's mind, and Wess had no choice but to take back Sereda. Though surprisingly no magical beasts bothered them.

"Wess!" Erez came back to see Wess back in his cave meditating. His face was all smiles as he called for Wess.

"Yes master?" Wess's ears perked up when he heard his master's voice.
"I am glad you have broken through and finished my task. Now that you have, I feel I should explain power levels to you and some other things." When Wess heard this he could only groan internally. He really wanted to learn skills and felt explanations could come later.
"Is this necessary master?" Moaned Wess.
"Yes it is. Now listen up. There are 8 levels and the last few are split up by bottlenecks. Everyone will reach level 1, you need to if you want to do the most basic things like walking. Level 2 is reached by everyone except the lazy who don't do any work, this is normally reached by 22 years of age for non-mages. Level 3 is reached by people who have to do manual labour or are trying to become mages. Level 4 is reached by people with decent talent, normally 25. Level 5 is reached by normal genius's and they get it around 35 years of age. Level 6 are for the talented, and normally is reached by 50 years of age. Level 7 is extremely rare, and the only one still alive got it when he was 80 years of age. Level 8 is unknown. When someone says these levels in a way similar to how I'm saying it then that is just in regards to their mage essence, not actually their battle prowess. I guarantee someone who is at level 1 and is a mage, could beat someone who's level 3 but not a mage. " Hearing this made Wess think about Sereda. Was she truly a monster? He didn't think so and no longer thought of Sereda as a monster in talent, just someone who's extremely capable.
"Our country contains three main factions. They are the Da sect, Polios army and the Government. We are the second and we currently rivals with both of the other factions. The Government normally uses strategy and tactics to win fights, we use our experts and the Da sect uses its sheer numbers. We are equally matched in power and none of us wish to team with another, for fear of being stabbed in the back. However our plan now will allow us to become stronger than both and forcefully envelop them." Wess listened on half-heartedly for the rest as he began to day dream about when he would get his attack skill and how powerful it would be.
When he eventually fell asleep he entered a world where he knew it was a dream and could move freely.
"Woah! Where am I?"
"You are with me!" Sereda's voice rang out.
"Is this where I am going to learn my skills?" Wess's eyes gleamed with a golden light.
"No, this is where the spell will be transferred to you. It would change depending on your preference and you seem to want an attack spell, your body will automatically choose a spell most suited to you." Right on cue Wess's mind started feeling pressured and felt like the fluids would burst out. Wess's body writhed in pain until the pain slowly started to fade away and his body felt numb.
The spell that transmitted to his mind was 'Light burst'.
"WHAT THE FUCK! THAT'S A LIGHT TYPE SPELL! I'M DARKNESS!" Wess howled in rage. He had looked forward to this spell and it became useless. “No fuck this! If my body thinks this is what's suited toward me then that must mean something. Maybe it's trying to tell me that I can change this spell to fit towards my elemental affinity." With that Wess's mind began to think of ways to use it......

The Saga of Armageddon: The Call of Crows
Bjorn Stormtamer's world has been turned upside down in more ways than one. His shipmates have left him for dead on an island for quarantining victims of a disease that he now has. His partner in battle despises him, his family thinks he's dead and everyone else thinks it was good riddance. Moreover, the world is under attack by a virulent plague that kills with light and an empire from the east whose intentions are unknown but whose methods are merciless and bloodthirsty. Little does he know that the world itself is nearly on the brink of cosmic collapse. But when a bold, charismatic woman from another nation seeks him out, Bjorn discovers that the plague he has was not a plague at all, but a trial. A trial to determine who is worthy to wield the power of gods in order to give humanity a fighting chance against the winds of fate. This novel was written 2 years ago and isn't exactly my best work. I'm still improving my skills, but I encourage you to enjoy it for what it's worth. ALSO, the whole plague thing was written about before the COVID pandemic. The plague is fake and actually magic in the story, but that has NOTHING to do with real world events. I am under NO CIRCUMSTANCE trying to make ANY kind of statement with it. Please just enjoy the story and stay safe.
