《Maria's Adventure》Chapter 18: Price of an unknown item

“This might be sudden but how much would an item be worth if it tied to the disappearance of a cardinal?”
The words that come out of her lady filled Elaina with fury and dread. She wanted to shout but due to the group of princes looking from afar, she held back her anger.
“My lady, with all due respect, I…” Elaina was at a loss for word; however, the situation did not allow her to be idle for long, so she hastily replied “It’s depended on context, my lady. I will need full detail to even take a guess.”
Maria thought about it for a little then she whispered “Full detail? I don’t have much, just some random guy who proclaimed himself a cardinal gave me this box, telling me to deliver it to the church at all costs, and then he died due to fatal injuries before I get a chance to do anything.”
Elaina stuttered “then can you describe him?”
Maria tried to recall what she saw from Elisa’s memories “Thin, white male, red hair, maybe mid 40? As tall as that Odius guy over there. There is an “X” scar on his left cheek. That is all I can remember. If you want, we can go get his corpse to see full details.”
Elaina hurriedly stopped Maria “Please don’t. We are already in deep trouble. There is no need to dig it further. If what you said is true, we should just get rid of it as soon as possible.”
Seeing Elaina’s panicked expression, Maria nodded “I see”. She then turned around and apologized to the waiting party “It’s my sincere apology but I cannot sell this item.”
“I see,” Alvis thought about it for a while after observing Elaina and her master’s expression “30 gold rooms” Alvis finally spoke.

“Excuse me?” Maria responded.
“30 room full of golds. It’s the equivalent of what you took from Carlos today, yes? I will pay that amount for the box.” Alvis explained.
“Sir, I though…” Maria tried to reason with Alvis.
“60 gold rooms” Alvis raised the price again.
“Sir.. I” Maria was confused.
“100 gold rooms” Alvis raised his voice “I doubt that even the church will pay anything for that price. Miss Maria, I respect you for your bravely, but you should know the limit before it turns into stupidity.”
Elaina pinched Maria’s skirt “My lady, just accept it! I would have thrown that thing out for free! Besides, 100 gold rooms, it is 100 gold rooms, my lady.” Elaina whispered.
Maria was a bit hesitant because she wanted to hold on to this item a bit longer. At least, until she got a chance to show it to Tir and ask him to identify the item. It seems like holding onto it might not be an option anymore.
“Fine then, 100 gold rooms, do you have the money right now, or should we make an appointment for another day, sir?” Maria asked,
“Of course, we have the money right now.” Alvis confidently answered.
“You do?” Maria and the group of princes were baffled at the fact that Alvis carried such a massive amount of money with him.
“Of course.” Alvis answered Maria, then he turned “but not me alone. What are you guys waiting for? If you want to have a chance at obtaining the box, you better work for it.” Alvis scolded them “There are like twenty of us here, if we put our wealth together, we can buy the box no problem.” Using his own magic, he whispered into the ear of the princes “Remember, our priority is to secure the box first, we can fight among ourselves for that box later.” Looking at a few unsatisfied faces within the group, Alvis scoffed “Or do you think you can ask for a better price when competing against the church? Or perhaps, you want to steal it for yourself?” Alvis shook his head “I would advise you to rethink your decision. The church is quite sensitive these past weeks.”

No one tried to argue back as Alvis made a very good point. If the Church heard about this, no one here would stand a chance. Given how the Church has been so sensitive lately, no one knew what will happen. So, although they are unwilling, they must cooperate. Without a word, the group of princes quickly take out their own respective “miniature storage” that functions just like Carlos’s ring and start transferring their own share of wealth to Alvis when he came to collect. In just a moment, Alvis finished the collection and returned to Maria with a metal card.
“Here you go. 100 gold rooms now reside within this card.” Alvis handed the metal card to Maria.
As Maria was about to attempt another transfer to the ring, her maid stopped Maria “My lady, the ring has almost reached the limit, it better that you use this one instead.” Ellaina then handed Maria another metal card similar to the one that Alvis gave Maria.
The transfer went smoothly without interruption. Maria took a breath and signal her maid to give the box to Alvis.
“Thank you, now if you excuse me, I have some matter to attend to.” Alvis politely excuse himself as he turned back and look at the group of princes, whose attention now focused solely on Alvis instead.
Notice a change in the atmosphere, Ellaina quickly took the opportunity and quickly escorted her master out of the Battleground. Before they left, however, they were stopped by Odius waiting near the exit.
“My apologize, Miss Elisa. The principal has requested you to come to the office.”

There he stood, dark eyes, dark hair, beautiful in the most devastating of ways. It scared me how little he had changed, his hair was longer and black, his frame thinner, like he hadn't eaten since I last saw him. His eyes were different, lacking something they had always held before, lacking anything really, and yet he was the same. He looked weak, but I knew he wasn't. "Hi, angel."His voice was just as dead as his eyes. It sent a shiver up my spine. That was the reason I felt sick, that was the reason he seemed different. He was dead, and as much as I wanted to hate him, I was sad he was empty, sad he wasn't the same man anymore."Hello, Gabriel."My voice came out softer than I would have liked, the words burning my tongue. But it didn't matter, I got the desired effect even if the volume wasn't there. He flinched, his eyes widening, his eyebrows twitching up and together, his jaw setting for just a moment. But then it was gone and he looked away, death settling back in his eyes, in the lines of his face.» ✦ «#2 in Angel Romance#3 in Demonology#11 in Thriller#Mature, 18+ for all the reasons.
