《Tales of Ackerhon》Chapter-14: A Bright Head and Heavy Fists (Part-4)

“Alright!” Both Diego and Shi Mei spoke simultaneously.
Samuel’s brows jumped as he looked at Diego. Rubbing his chin, he said, “Come to think of it, I never caught your name.”
Diego’s brows furrowed. “It’s Diego. Di-e-go. Alright? Why’re you trying to delay again?!”
Hearing the name, Samuel’s brows jumped. But hearing the boy’s last words, he reined in his curiosity. Nodding, he said, “I have stuff to ask you later. But before that, let’s start with the story and why you should carry Mythril coins with you when you go to beat that old ghost.”
Taking a deep breath, Samuel stilled his thoughts. Opening his eyes lazily, he began speaking as if reciting from memory.
“Long ago, there existed gods and devils. We humans, along with many other races, are descendants of gods. On the other hand, demons are descendants of devils from Ominheim. As for beasts, when the lord of the devils was perishing, he cast a spell large enough to cover the entire realm — a curse of vengeance. Or so the legends say. You must be aware of this.”
Both Diego and Shi Mei nodded.
Taking a deep breath, Samuel continued, “The story I’m about to tell you is a battle from which Mythril was—*cough* *cough* *cough* Give me some water.”
Near the end of this sentence, he felt his expression distorting into a smile, he coughed to cover the change. ‘This con is going to be grand. Hahaha!’
Having drunk some water, he composed himself before continuing with a serious expression. “Back in the day, gods had multiple legions to fight against demons. But demons, too, had their own legions. Two of those legions were Ghost Legion, Undead legion and the well-known Legion of Hell, made of Ominheim Spectres and Corrupted Infernal Deities.

“Because these two legions had no concept of death, and couldn’t die, gods had a hard time dealing with them. Undead would rise again, no matter how much you destroyed them. As for ghosts, they would invade souls and cause hallucinations and even deaths.
“Worse, Ominheim Spectres would use their Spectre Spears to corrupt gods and their armies. Even the terrifying angels weren’t immune to corruption. But, the story didn’t end there. As they say, to every illness, there is a cure.
“To completely destroy these two races, gods needed to use their holiness. Their holiness would cause the undead and ghosts wounds which couldn’t heal. And if they used their holiness to bless someone with divine protection, ghosts wouldn’t dare invade them and they would be able to resist corruption.
“And because of this, gods needed ways to pass their holy powers to their armies. To do that, they created several treasures like divine elixirs, divine weapons and such. And to forge those divine weapons and armours, the gods imbued rocks with their holiness, turning them from something anyone could find into something precious, something people other than gods couldn’t get even after flipping the world upside down.
“That divine rock is Mythril. They used those rocks to forge armour and weapons for the legions of gods. They say that the strongest legion amongst them, The Legion of Gods where gods themselves joined to fight, were armed to the tooth with this—”
“Whoa! Is Mythril really that amazing? Then the Legion of Gods…” Shi Mei exclaimed.
Looking at her bewildered expression, Samuel couldn’t help but keep a wry smile to pop up on his face. His gaze inadvertently went over Yuan Mo at the back, who had his eyes closed and seemed to be sleeping in his chair.
Shaking his head, he glared at Shi Mei. Realising her mistake, Shi Mei closed her mouth, looking apologetic.

Looking reluctant, Samuel continued, “So, as I said, Mythril is amazing and can be used to fight against ghosts, demons and whatnot. But now you must be thinking, how did it get in the ground? Why dig it up?”
At this point, Samuel took a brief pause, letting the two digest the information. Both Diego and Shi Mei looked at each other in amusement before turning their heads back to look at Samuel with anticipation flickering within their eyes full of curiosity.
Looking at their expressions, Samuel felt pleased inside. Nodding in approval, he continued, “The battle they fought was fierce. Both sides fought till their deaths. Not even one person was alive from either side. Their corpses littered the battlefield, going as far as the horizon and beyond.
“The war lasted for more than a few thousand aevis. You can probably guess how bad it was. Unfortunately, fighting was bad enough that there was nobody to clean up their corpses or bury them.
“Overtime, with rain and blowing winds, new layers of land formed. Albeit late, mother nature buried those valiant warriors with her own hands. Their equipment was all with them, and because of the time that passed, it eventually turned into Mythril ore.”
Wiping the sweat off his forehead, Samuel heaved a long breath. ‘That was… amazing! Heck, if I didn’t know it was half-lies and half truths for a con, I would’ve even believed that nonsense I just spouted. Heh, in terms of spouting nonsense, besides dad, I never admired anyone. Now I know why. Hahaha! Mom was right! Reading books is really a good thing. Now I even feel bad about all the books I haven’t read. Or this con would’ve been even more spectacular.’
Looking at the stunned Diego, Samuel said, “So, to fight that ghost, you must bring along Mythril coins.”
“Why coins? I can get a spear made of that stuff.” Diego asked, confused.
Samuel's tongue stuck to the top of his mouth in astonishment. Damn! He’s loaded! How many golds is that again? A few billion? How is he so rich?
Looking at Samuel’s stunned expression, Diego puffed out his chest with pride. A smug smile filled his face.
Looking at that smug smile, Samuel couldn’t help but curse, “You idiot.”
Without waiting for Diego to respond, he continued, “The Chamber of Commerce issues coins. And they’re especially close to the Tower of Magic’s rune formation department. Why’s that? Because on higher-tier coins, they use rune formations to draw out power from the coin. Although the coin gets destroyed, it releases a super strong attack. Far stronger than you ever could.”
Diego turned to Zhu. “Is that true?”

On hiatus. Just have too much that happen in succession to have regular updates. will keep writing just wont be posting chapters for a while Jade was once a human on earth, many eons ago. He died and went to a cultivation universe. Sadly he was never heaven's choosen with heaven breaking luck. He was average and bland. When his brother was shining light he was the stabling post supporting him. Many sought to take down the light, but knew they were nothing to light so they tried to take down the post. Jade died in the cultivation universe, not without learning more than most in their billion year life times. He was not a genius by any means he was just well learned. Now he is a dungeon, with mana instead of Qi. Still he can cultivate and learn again. Who will he teach and help become a shining light Warning I am not the best writer, and it will take awhile to build to more of an action adventure story with dungeon building as a side as the story will shift from Jade the dungeon to his choosen students I use Cultivating Dungeon, and The bound dungeon as systems to build off of, but the story is all mine
