Kira sat near the cart he had fought for. Corpses surrounded spread around the clearing, sometimes burnt, sometimes fried or in pieces.
"Let's see what Gabumon died protecting."
He entered the cart and inside was a single treasure chest and unfortunately it was locked. It was 1.5 meters long; too heavy to carry. He glanced around the interior. There were no keys inside the cart. Instead, he looked at the person who had hired him; Rin. He walked over to the corpse that had a hole in its chest.
He spied her purse. He tore her purse off, opening it, he saw some money and one key. 'Bingo.' He took the money, which amounted to two silvers. 'Never know where that will be handy.'
He also took Obito's money. However, Obito also carried a key.
He examined the keys. One was golden and had a Ram's horns instead of the teeth. On the underside, written in neat letters, was one name.
Capricorn
'The hell is this?' Kira looked at the strange design. 'Most locks won't accept such a design.'
He looked at the second one. This design was slightly fancier but it was also the same colour. It had something akin to a skull at the start of the neck and a weird, symmetrical design. Underneath this key was also one name.
Leo
Kira then noticed the handles. Capricorn had a weird inverted 'N' whilst Leo had something like a hangman's rope. 'These things are strange. Oh well.' He sighed. 'Lets see if these open the chest.'
He re-entered the cart. Kneeling down, he tried to look for a key opening. He found it. Or, more precisely, twelve of them. 'So I got to find ten more of them so I can open this chest to see what lies inside. Hmmm.' He suddenly had the urge to look if any of the other bandits had a key.

One hour later...
Kira stood up with a sigh. He had rummaged through most of the corpses, but to no avail. Although he had picked up a total of 7 silvers, he still wasn't happy. He looked at the great axe. 'Last one then.' He looked at the man's corpse, and tried to find the purse. Finally he found it.
Tearing it open, three silver coins fell out, as well as one golden key. 'Huzzah!' Kira jumped in joy. He examined the key. It was a symmetrical key, with as double axe as its teeth.
Taurus
He looked at the handle design; It was an 'o' with horns? 'Oh well. Let's see if I can open the chest at least partially.'
Grimacing, he stood up and pocketed the money. Holding the three keys, he studied the key holes. He found the appropriate key holes. He took Capricorn. He inserted it and turned.
A quiet 'clunk' sounded. He took Taurus, inserted the key and twisted Taurus. Another 'clunk' sound, but this time slightly louder. Kira looked at the final key. He took Leo pushed and twisted. A 'clunk,' the loudest this time, resounded.
Silence. 'Boy that was anticlimactic.' He looked around. "Now what?" A notification answered his question.
*Ding* Congratulations! You have unlocked B rank quest!
"What the fuck?"
Your quest is to find all twelve celestial spirit keys and unlock the treasure within. Rewards: Level up and you keep what is inside the chest. Do you accept?
Kira looked at the notification. "Yes."
*Ding* Congratulations! You have accepted 'Key hunter' quest!
Keys acquired: 3/12
"Well now what. How am I supposed to find the keys?" He had literally no idea where to start. No other players had reported of these Celestial spirit keys... If only he had a map to show where they were... He took the keys out and put them into his inventory.

"Ah fuck it. I have to meet Lucy in the Magnolia. Let's continue forward and then revive Gabumon. He looked towards the chest. "You're coming with me." Kira put it in his inventory. He looked at the two horses and freed them. He didn't need them.
They neighed as though thanking him and sped off into the distance, finally free. As they galloped off, Kira took out his map.
However he was pleasantly surprised when instead of just the town names, there were also symbols most were stationary but one was moving; slowly, but surely. 'So this is where I find the keys... But why did the system show this to me?' He questioned. Wouldn't it be too easy to find them?'
He stared at it for a few seconds before noticing... The one that was moving was going in his direction. 'Well should I wait for this person or do I flee?' He puzzled over this.
'Ah fuck it. Let's go to see Magnolia. Hopefully I will sufficient level by the time the other key holder so I can put up a decent fight.' With that, he walked straight to Magnolia, going through the forest and not the road.
He didn't even walk 50 meters into the forest when he was noticed he was being stalked by dire wolves. 'Well...' He analysed the situation.
"Shit."

Changement : Version Pile [French]
Notice: This story is in French, not in english, mainly because of my poor english. I may translate it later if I get better, and hopefully I will. - Author's note: this story is a concept. During the first chapter, the main character is faced with a major decision, which will change his life forever, and, not knowing what to do, he decide to play heads or tails, and let fate choose for him. And so there will be two versions of this story, one for each of the result, and their consequences for the main character, as well as all those around him. Here, he got tails.

Saga of the Jewels VOLUME ONE COMPLETE
Prefer to listen to rather than read Saga of the Jewels? I'm also releasing it as a free audibook serial podcast on iTunes here! Epic YA JRPG-influenced GameLit progression ensemble-cast steampunk romance fantasy! When Ryn’s hometown is destroyed, will he be able to gather together the twelve Primeval Jewels in order to defeat the evil Emperor and save the world of Mid? A fan novelization of an amazing Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist, that currently releases at least one chapter a month. Epic in that this will be very long. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint!” (-Kandaj) YA in that this should be enjoyable to~13-year-olds and upwards. Some gore, some swearing, some sex, but nothing more than PG-13. JRPG-influenced / GameLit in that it uses lots of JRPG tropes, particularly from Final Fantasy. I’ve read a lot of fan Final Fantasy novelisations and you can basically think of this as a fan novelisation of its own Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist as a game... Progression in that the characters level up over time (though not with visible litrpg stat boxes). They grow in ability through training and experience, gain new skills, individually and as a party (think Chrono Trigger) and spend time discussing and stratgeising about how to defeat their opponents. Main protagonist from book three would definitely be able to defeat himself from book one! Ensemble-cast because we've got quite the roster of misfits here. The first volume is all from the main protagonist's POV, but it starts dancing between his and different POVs thereafter. Steampunk in that we’ve also got airships, steam trains, pistols and ambiguous ‘amber bars’ that function a bit like artificial lights… Romance in that there is lots of shipping here, a few love triangles, and you may be kept guessing as to who will actually end up together... Fantasy in that we’re in a vaguely pre-modern setting. We’ve got swords, magic, dragons, dungeons, monsters, all that good stuff. * "This story captures that Final Fantasy quality perfectly. Kiddy but also grim. The characters are great... Severely underrated and needs more favorites/follows. I look forward to seeing how this story will unfold." -Gilgamesh9999 "Starting at the end and jumping backwards is not a writing style seen every day. I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical at first, but you've executed a fairly crazy idea very skillfully so far. Overall, a strong start to what could be a very strong story." -RandomFF.netUser "You definitely have my interest piqued. It'll be interesting to see where the story goes... It definitely has an 'old school Final Fantasy' type feel to it, which I appreciate...Good job! I am glad you are going into more details about the story you laid out in the prologue...of course the big burning question is 'You know they lose in the the first chapter, so how will they end up winning?' That of course, is the story you're writing...so we'll see how it goes! #Following." -KyleQuicksilver (quotes are from reviews on other sites) * If you enjoy it, don’t forget to boost Saga of the Jewels on topwebfiction.com! Rooms of the Desolate
Rooms of the Desolate is a collection of short stories designed to guide the reader through the many rooms and mysteries of the bleak and greyscale labyrinth of the Desolate. The first entry, "The Forever Tower" follows an unnamed wanderer climbing an endless, colourless tower; the only world they have ever known. As they slowly ascend alongside the masses, they consider the nature of their world and look to the corridors as temptation beckons. The second entry, "Production Line", follows an engineer in a boundless factory, who encounters a product that does not wish to bow to the overseers and makes them question their belief in the truth and duties they were made to believe. Content guidelines: Current entries do not include explicit profanity, but future entries may do so, hence the presence of that tag. Some entries do include gore and violence, though not currently to particularly extreme degrees. The Desolate is exactly that: a desolate world; as such, it is bleak, downtrodden, and may deal with mental struggles. Cover art credit: Adam Borkowski on Pexels.
