《A virtual reality game according to a martial artist otaku》Chapter 14

Apparently the 'Absolute duo' was well off. Their inn was in the middle of the dungeon, yet a high class barrier prevented monsters from entering. Thus, the place was not in pieces.
They were also well-known and many people visited them. When Kira arrived, the place was bustling with life. There were all NPCs, but powerful ones at that. "Level 30s, 40s as well as the odd level 50 are here. You're the lowest level there, but that is to be expected." Ryan explained.
"Oi, Dylan, what's a level 16 doing here?" A tall man who was level 38 shouted at the three. "Hey Kakashi. The reason why he's here is because we saw him fight a goblin pack."
"Yeah. So?" Kakashi wasn't impressed.
"He finished off a goblin by using 'One thousand years of pain' with a sword." Kakashi's eyes widened at the new information. "Holy shit dude! I once did that as well. It ain't pretty." He then turn to read his book. 'Wait. Is that a 50 shades of grey?' Kira looked at Kakashi, whose cheeks had turned red.
"Ignore that pervert, come on Kira, I will show you to your room."
Kira's room was apparently the standard of the Absolute duo hotel, with a single bed in a 4x4 room including a bathroom. Saying his goodbyes to Ryan, Kira let his avatar sleep and logged off.
John did his usual workout and the day ended quickly. However, before going to bed, John went on the internet to see who posted the video about him.
He checked online and many people were frantically asking the poster where the player was, what spell he was using, his level and so forth. However, the only things they knew about Kira was his level and his name. He then checked the forum. Many people wanted Kira to join their guilds or become friends; They left messages and shout-outs online. 'What idiots. I did tell the guild on the video that I didn't want to be in a guild. If they start crowding me, I will kill them.' Then he noticed some who obviously noticed the quite obvious threat that the masked Kira had made.

Those types of people were observant and a lot of the time dangerous. One user, instead of asking about Kira, analysed his spells. 'That one's dangerous.'
Getting off the computer, Kira went to sleep.
The next day, Kira woke up early; He wanted to train. He logged back on and was greeted by the ceiling of the inn.
He finished off the last of his wolf meat and went outside. He saw Kakashi on the way out, still reading his book. Out of nowhere, Ryan appeared. "Hey. Kira. Let's fight. If you impress me, I will give you enough food supplies to last 50 days." Kira's eyes lit up; FREE FOOD! "Let's go!" He shouted enthusiastically.
They went outside. Some of the other adventurers had heard of the fight and came to watch. They went into the middle of a nearby field. Ryan threw some red rock and shouted out "Battle Barrier." A red-tinged force field burst out of the rock, covering a diameter of 100 meters. Ryan explained. "This thing is called a battle barrier. It nullifies physical attacks and turns the damage into mental stress. Instead of dying, you faint." Kira looked around; this was the first time he had heard of such a thing.
"Are you ready?" Ryan asked Kira. Nodding, he drew his katana. Ryan, on the other hand, drew a wakizashi, which was more of a short katana than anything else. It was easy to hide. It was essentially "a ninja's weapon." Kira looked at his opponent; Ryan looked him straight in the eye. They charged.
Kira somersaulting into the air and then slashed down. Ryan coolly observed and blocked using his weapon. He then went to kick Kira in the face but Found that it missed; Kira ducked underneath his leg and tried to stab Ryan. Ryan some how somersaulted over the blade, doing a kick to the back of Kira's head.
Kira felt his conscious fade, but he bit his tongue until he didn't feel hazy. He stood up and looked at Ryan, who was standing ten meters away. "You're tougher than I thought." Kira snorted. "Oh please, you're barely even trying." Without a word more, Kira formed a fireball. Ryan widened his eyes slightly, but didn't say anything, even when the fireball flew towards him. He just dodged, ducking under the fireball and running straight towards Kira. He suddenly accelerated.

'Oh shit!' Kira thought, jumping to the side, just avoiding the blade. He tried a different route and threw a lightning bolt at Ryan; the reason as to why he didn't throw a spear is because he needed to conserve his mana for the time being. However, that tactic didn't work: Ryan merely stepped to the side as the bolt whizzed by.
"Congratulations. You are better than your average level 16, heck even better than a level 19. You've already gotten the supplies, but I want to see how far I can push you. So let's keep fighting and maybe I will throw in an extra present." Kira's eyes gleamed. Wanting that extra present, he discarded all of his restraints. He activated his shikai.
"Reap, heaven's wheel."
His shikai, the double bladed staff, caused many of the onlookers to point and shout. Even Ryan frantically asked "How the FUCK did you get that?!"
"This dude named Master Roshi told me how to unlock it. Why, is it truly that rare?" Ryan facepalmed.
"You need years of training to unlock your shikai! You did in an afternoon? That is not just impressive, that is never-heard-of-before genius."
"Oh" was Kira's only reply.
"Let me guess... You only had for what, a week at most. Let me show you a shikai that has been cultured for years!" Ryan then held the sword to his left arm and said
"Boost, Red dragon."
His sword started to shine, enveloping his arm. Once the light had disappeared, in place of his wakizashi was a red gauntlet that covered his hand and his upper arm. Kira's eyes widened in surprise.
"I have one for my second wakizashi as well called the white dragon but that's for later. Anyway, shall we continue?" Not saying a word, Kira ran towards his still-standing opponent.
CLANG
A dry, metallic sound resounded when their weapons made contact. Spinning his lower half of the weapon upward, Kira found it unexpectedly blocked.
"Ha. That might work on untrained people, but not on me." He stopped speaking after Kira resumed his attacks, not wanting to be distracted.
A chorus of shouts and cheers came from outside the barrier. The other adventurers had been raising such a ruckus that even Dylan came out, wanting to see the show. He looked on, cheering the fight on.
CLANG
This sort of sound resonated multiple times as Kira tried to hit Ryan, only to have Ryan block every single one. "You tired yet?" Ryan taunted. "Not yet. I've got one more trick left." Ryan stepped away, confused. In response, Kira stabbed the ground with his blade.
"Scatter and fall, Amaterasu!"
Black smoke started coiling from the ground, surrounding Ryan. The victim looked around, wary of the smoke. The smoke thickened, covering a diameter of two meters. 'Its over.' Kira thought.
Suddenly he noticed a white light shining in the middle of the smoke. It sucked in the black smoke. "What the hell?"
It was Ryan's other shikai, the white dragon. It kept shouting "DIVIDEDIVIDEDIVIDEDIVIDE" as the smoke coiled around it.
Once all of the smoke had been sucked in, Kira finally noticed what had countered him: A white gauntlet. Ryan clapped; his gauntlets making an unpleasant sound
"Well done. To make me use both of my wakizashis, show how good you are. Alright. You get that present."
The red barrier contracted, finally making the sky blue again. People came over, shouting their support at the match; cheering at the two duellists.
Dylan came over. "Well done man, to make Ryan use both of his weapons... Awesome. Hey Ryan, you pushed into a corner by someone who is 20 levels lover than you. How did you feel?"
"Shut up... But indeed, your weapon's shikai is impressive. Let's go, I have to keep my word."
They went inside amidst cheers.

A Titan's Crusade
Erik Thayne spent most of his life being brutally ridiculed and tormented for his weight and physical appearance, among other things. A social pariah and diagnosed with an eating disorder no one has an explanation or treatment for, Erik spent years trying to overcome his issues with his personal image and escape the ridicule and vicious torment of his peers. After years of dedicated effort, and a fresh start in a town away from his childhood and adolescent tormentors, he had finally begun to truly realize what he'd been striving for all along. Only, fate apparently has other plans because in the blink of an eye, Erik found himself snatched from Earth and taken to another universe, another world, where he is offered the chance to be more than he'd ever imagined. Now, he has to fight to restore the Balance between Chaos and Order on a world of swords and magic, in a universe governed by the System's laws, which resemble those of RPGs from Earth. Erik learned to embrace the things about himself that others taught him to hate, using them to reforge his physical identity into something more removed from his old self-loathing. But can he learn to embrace the darkest parts of his mind just as he did the reviled aspects of his body and become who he needs to be to succeed in the task set before him? It might just prove easier to stalk in the dark as a monster than to walk in the light as a man... *This is my first time publishing anything I've written to a public audience. Due to formatting issues, I forwent traditional stat-screens for something a little less problematic, delineating stat screens by separating them from regular text with horizontal lines in a lighter-grey coloration. Let me know if you like them or not. Criticism is entirely welcome, but please don't hate on my work after only reading 1 chapter. This is a writing project I intend to complete but I have committment problems so we'll see how long this goes on. Also, fair warning, as the description implies, the main protagonist is intended to be someone who has been treated cruelly, developed antisocial tendencies, and ultimately has to question his own humanity--or lack thereof. This story is not intended to be brutally dark but I will definitely be trying to follow a darker theme. It is intended to be violent and some scenes later in the story might be...alarming. There will likely also be some light, non-graphic (think more implied with crude jokes and conversation than actual details, there will be no full-blown sex scenes)relationship scenes planned later and if you're opposed to either a bisexual or gay main character, stay away. I haven't yet decided which way he's going to swing but the odds on him being straight are relatively miniscule, and I've always wanted to write a story about a gay man who basically looks like a lumberjack because who doesn't like giving conventional stereo-types the middle finger? This will NOT be a harem story, and I have no intention to focus on romance over action--it's a consequence of character development where I'm concerned, not the be-all-end-all of the story. The cover-art does not, in any way, belong to me. It was an image titled the Druid King (by duskanmarkovic according to the file name) which I found on Google Images. Until I can get something commissioned, this is the best stand-in image I could find.
