《VR: Ascension》Chapter 28: Running

“Alright swordsman and anybody who can use sabers here roll for it,” Mango commands.
In a second or two they all materialize a dice in their hand and then they threw it. The dice flew and my time hits four minutes and fifty-four seconds. It means I can do an instant log out. While they all looked at what they rolled I pressed the log out button.
“Well I would love to stay and chat but I got to go so later,” I waved politely while my body dematerialize while my voice echoes out.
I did not have a problem with not being able to log back in for an hour. This was actually a great opportunity for me to take a nap for the rest of the night. I mean there is still 3 hours left in game before day time is over.
While I couldn't log into the game I could still log on to view my character’s stats and storage.
ID: Dark Bunny
Job: Dark Quasi Mage
Level: 18
Health: 440(-120)
Mana: 503(-138)
Attack: 78-93(-19)
Defense: 36(-11)
Agility: 39(-10)
Intellect: 122
Strength: 47(-14)
Endurance: 21(-7)
Stamina: 21(-7)
My stats went up which wasn't bad. Then I looked into my storage and saw three new times that the bear dropped and my jaws literally dropped onto the table. This was because the bear didn't just drop one 1 iron tier item but 2!
One was a blade or better known as a saber.
[Black Iron Saber](Iron Tier)
Attack: +100-125
Strength: +15
Attack Speed: +10%
Requirement:
Level: 20
Strength: 25
Then there was the armor.
[Black Bear Robe](Iron Tier)
Defense: +45
Stamina: +5
Additional Effect: Inflict 5 percent of damage to enemies through physical contact
Requirements:
Level 20
I wanted to run over to Dong right now and wake him up but I chose not to. Instead I moved on to my next item.
[Black Bear Leg Fur](Bronze Tier)
Defense: +18
Agility: +5
Shiii! I remember thinking to myself at that time. The only thing I could equip was the leg fur. Anything helped anyway.

I decided that I would level for a bit before I enter that Tomb since subconsciously I was afraid. For them to give you a warning that if you fail you will be at level one means something.
Since I couldn't log in for an hour I went down into Dong’s kitchen to grab a couple snacks to eat. Then I took a brief nap before I woke up at around 2am. I snoozed off for a couple extra hours. The good news is that it was night time. I get a 10 percent boost and I have 4 hours in game before the neutral time.
I figured it has been a couple hours in game and nobody would waste their precious time camping me in the beginning of the game. However I was still cautious and decided to ask Dong if he could check that certain location.
Dong said he could not but if I put in login view mode I could look around before I truly log in. This was extremely helpful by the way.
I put my head gear on and I was at the login page. Clicked the view button then input my username and password. It did an eye scan and a brainwave scan. Then I was in but in ghost mode.
I couldn't move from my login location but I can twist and turn to look around.
I looked around and saw that there was about 20 people guarding me. 5 archers, 5 mages, two knights, two assassins, two healers, and four warrior class players.
Wow they really over estimate me on this. Luckily everyone of those players were around level 17 and 18. Their equipments were all bronze and wood rank.
“Hey you think he is going to log back in?” the warrior asks the knight.
“If he does we will kill him. I doubt he will go 24 hours without playing.”
“Its been six hours since he logged off. He probable went to sleep already.”

“What you said is probable true but it doesn't matter we have to watch carefully. The boss have handed down their orders.”
“Ugh my levels gonna be so behind,” warrior complains.
“I don’t like it anymore than you do but he is giving us two gold coins per hour so it's not too bad. Also monsters sometimes wander over giving us some experience points,” the knight said trying to stay positive.
“True, true. How about we have one of the warriors go aggro some monsters over for us to kill. I mean seriously 20 people guarding one player is a bit over reacting don’t you think?”
The knight begins to rub his chin like he was thinking. “Alright you can go aggro some monsters and we will wait here.”
Wow what kind of luck do I have, I couldn't help but laugh. The moment that I log on and they present me with an opportunity to escape?
Then I message to Dong, “Hey Dong is Big Boom still around?”
“Yeah I think so. He said he and his party will farming there. Why?”
“Well I am being camped right now and could use his help to draw some attention away.”
“Alright give me a second I’ll message him.”
“Thanks.”
A couple minutes later. “Yo Bunny you need help?” Big Boom messages over.
“Yeah, I am being camped on right now. I was wonder if you can help me divert some attention away from me.”
“Sure no problem. We can’t help you kill but we can help distract.”
Then I sent him my coordinates and told him to wait for my signal. “Also I told him to get some monster aggro ready just incase.”
Couple minutes later I saw the warrior aggroing some monsters back. There were 2 bears, and 4 goblins. These were actually easy kill.
“Now!” I messaged Big Boom!
Then I saw Big Boom being at level 18 running into the middle of the crowd.
I saw all the player’s attention shifts to Big Boom and I revived right then and there when their attentions split.
The moment I materialized I sprinted like death was upon me. They heard the sound of my footsteps and their attention turns back to me. I instant equipped everything I could. A couple of the archers launches their skills.
Out of the corner’s of my eyes I saw the motions. I shifted my weight to the right and due to the distance I was able to dodge most of the arrows but in those couple of seconds the rest of the players guarding me got into formation.
They all began to activate their skills to attack. Thankfully I got those boots to boost my agility by 5 and defense by 18. Right now my agility hovers around 42.
I did a spin move to dodge two of the swords and a lance that was coming in. The warrior’s sword speed was a lot faster than the lance so I was able to dodge the lance and one sword but the third sword hit my rib cage.
-68
I took the damage and continued to run while another barrage of arrows rains in from the sky.
I got hit twice and managed to dodge the rest.
-32
-17
Another group came up to intercept me. It was two warriors, and a knight.
Right now I am very thankful for Big Boom and his companions for distracting the mages for me.
As I got near them I slam my fist to the ground as a stream of lightning surges out. They were stunned.
I ran passed them and was into the forest home free.
I continued to run but I could see that my stamina was dropping from 100 percent to 85 percent.
I slowed down my pace.
Then I opened the map and ran toward the Tomb of Emperor Azir Ashura.

Paths of the Chosen (Rewritten, Revised, and Reinvigorated)
Daniel Stewart was chosen to alpha test a brand new Immersive VR game, "The Realms". What he doesn't know is that he has also been Chosen by one of the Powers of a far-off world, and is now a pawn in a game much bigger than any he thought he would ever participate in. Will he survive and thrive in this strange new world, or will he stumble and fall, shattered by the ambitions of another? Does he have what it takes to walk the Paths of the Chosen?---Inspired by the Chaos Seeds novels, TheDespaxas's The Gamer, and a wide variety of games and books, although the world, characters, and systems are my own. Expect high fantasy, magic, combat and intrigue, love and loss, grief and passion. This story is intended for adult audiences and contains explicit sexual content, profanity, and violence (including sexual violence, although not by the protagonist and not as a focus of the story). Chapters with such content will be clearly marked, and all explicit sexual content will be behind spoiler tags. I prefer my stories to have happy endings, and especially in these uncertain times, I feel that it is important to maintain hope. While this tale will reach some dark places, I promise to you that, when all is said and done, the villains will be justly punished and the heroes will prevail and prosper. Remember: it is darkest before dawn, but dawn always comes. Please note also that although this story does not have the [Harem] tag, it does have an extremely slow build into a polyamorous relationship. Additionally, starting with Champion (book two of the series), the [Multiple Lead Characters], [Female Lead], and [Non-Human Lead] tags would also apply to varying degrees. This is a complete, ground-up rewrite of the original Paths of the Chosen, following feedback from here and elsewhere. It is now written in the third-person limited omniscient perspective and in the past tense. In addition, while the major plot beats are unchanged, most of what comes between them has been reconsidered and rewritten, with pacing and characterization as a special focus.---Update schedule: 2 chapters per week (Monday and Thursday), not counting bonus chapters. Chapter length is roughly 2,500 words on average, +/- 1,000 words. Chapters with explicit content tend to be longer so that they are still worth reading for those who would prefer a fade to black. --- Cover art by Agri Karuniawan (@artofagri).
