《The Book of Heresy》(15) Epilogue

Now, twenty years later, I have told you all about the revolution releasing mankind from Arthfeal, but it would seem that he would have me destroy my work. He has ordered me to destroy this very writing, so it might not inspire other to rise against the gods. I refuse however. I am here for one task alone. If he would not even let me perform my duty as an observer, then I fear I cannot follow him further. I will soon describe the confrontation as I have asked fake to assist me in this matter.

"Twenty years, Axsel!" Arthfael says. "For twenty years you hid yourself from me and now you show yourself. Are you that eager to get hurt?"

"Don't worry about me, Arthfael." Fake says. "I am here on behalf of Lycon, as he is the one human still ruled by you."

"The humans have destroyed my temples..." Arthfael says. "Their believe in me has faded completely, because of you! You will suffer for what you did to me!"

"It is you who will suffer, Arthfael." I say. "The power you still possess is too weak to handle the both of us."

"Did he tell you that?" Arthfael laughs. "My power hasn't diminished even one bit. I am still as powerful as I was back before I was trapped here! I have had enough of you."

Arthfeal rushes forwards and punches me in the chest. Even though we do not have physical bodies, we can still reform the other person as too simulate a punches. This is accompanied by a jolt of pain.

I attempt to return the favour, but I am simply to weak to move Arthfeal and my fist passes right through.

"Do you see how foolish you are?" Arthfeal says. "Get back to your duties, Lycon. You cannot win this fight."

"Oh, but that has a simple reason." Fake says. "Lycon thinks it is his mental strength that lacks control and so he can't harm you. He should realise however that that is not the whole truth. You see, Lycon, we gods can only manipulate our own being. In order to manipulate another god you need to 'infect' him with your soul. Arthfael has been doing this to you since day one, so he can easily manipulate you."

"An excellent understanding you have, Axsel." Arthfael praises. "Too bad for you, that it will not matter though."

"On the contrary, Arthfael." Fake says. "I won this fight before it even began. When fighting Maxwell twenty years ago I had done the same thing."

Fake raises his arms and Arthfael's form begins to fall apart.

"What?" Arthfael says in surprise. "How are you..."

"Every time we met I have been adding my essence to yours, Arthfael." Fake says. "This fight is over."

"No!" Arthfael says. "I will protect the world from humanity! My race is extinct because humanity needed to live on Oliron so badly. Isn't that right, Lycon?"

"We did invade the island to make room for more humans..." I say. "That was something the Pentilians could no longer provide. We took Oliron and, as payment, the entire human population living on the Pentilians died to an unidentifiable sickness. We should never have started praying to the god of a defeated race, but it gave us a sense of origin."

"Humanity proved itself a threat." Arthfael says. "I am all that stands between the world and that threat."

"And this is where that ends." Fake says slowly.

"Axsel!" Arthfael yells, running at fake.

Too late Arthfael has realised his mistake. Years had gone by without him even noticing his imminent defeat.

Deep in the forests of Oliron, Arthfael opens his eyes. They are not his eyes, however. Wind swirls around him as he struggles to remain within the ball of fat serving as his vessel. He slowly rolls it outside and finds himself in the Goblin camp. As he exits the shelter other Goblins bow down to him. For a second Arthfael feels in charge again. Panic spreads across the camp as the light of the sun starts appearing over the treetops.

Arthfael realises he should move and he tries, but his heavy body has already started sinking into the soil. He can't maintain his soul and move the body at the same time. He simply sits their, waiting for the sun.

After a few minutes the sun has reaches him. Fire erupts all over his body. Arthfael tries with all his might to keep his soul from reacting. Fake is blocking him from leaving the vessel. Panic overwhelms Arthfael as the he starts to lose his soul to the flames. He loses all control. He explodes in the middle of the Goblin camp. The fire consumes all around it and soon, no Goblin is left alive on Oliron. All that remains is a big scorched crater on the place where the protector of Ataria met his end.
