《Those Zombies Again》Chapter 27

At lunch time, Jane came to him and said that during the beginners' training she saw a huge L1, so Sam went with her and they found this big guy.
They hardly spoke. Sam didn't know how to make acquaintances and get close to other people. He wasn't sure about Jane if she might have similar problems, although rather, she simply didn't want to chat with him.
Sam gave Jane a try first. It was pleasant to watch her, she moved smoothly and clearly. No nervousness or stiffness.
However, she only dulled her katana and was injured by shrapnel. But the lack of good weapons was her only weakness. So Sam eventually finished off L1 himself, took the core and tied it to his sword and returned back to river for fishing.
From time to time Sam trained in shooting, in a nearby camp there was a small supply of cartridges for a pistol. He was not going to use it, but decided that he should still practice with it, just for in case.
Sam level 12
Class Immortal
Strength 18
Agility 20
Stamina 14
Toughness 13
Spirit 12
Unallocated stat points 0
Abilities - Premonition of Danger, Spiritual Armor.
Thanks to his armor, Sam doesn't need a lot of Toughness, even 12 Toughness was enough to withstand his strength and speed, but he decided to add 1 point there anyway.
Well, his stamina was always too low, before Sam was always in the city, so he always returned home when he was tired, but now he was going to go to the forest for the whole day, moreover, he wanted to try to spend the night in the forest.
Sam planned to walk through the forest to a neighboring country and find an airport or just a plane, at least this is the only way to get to the Amazon.

But it will make sense to go there only on condition that Sam learns to survive in the forest alone.
He was not going to stay in this country after the incident with government. Sam had not yet seen much benefit from the sword, in fact, now it is just a very strong sword, although its sharpness and lethality were not so extraordinary.
But even before the incident with Morris, Sam understood that the metal was clearly special, possibly extraterrestrial, but after what happened, he was sure that it was something like an artifact. Upgrade skills didn't work on this sword either.
Sam had already repainted the hilt of the sword and even tied it with a rubber coating, he could not do anything with the blade itself.
The next day, Sam woke up early at 6 am, he took Ashley with him and went to the forest. Sam liked Ashley and hoped that if he ever returned, Ashley would still be alive.
Sam believed that spending a day or two to make Ashley stronger is a small problem, and it will not affect his plans in any way.
They traveled through the forest, going deeper and deeper. Sam allowed Ashley to fight some of the animals, he neutralized the rest and allowed her to finish off.
By the evening they found an interesting tree, it was not too high, only 4 meters, and the branches were hanging low, there were several small red fruits on the tree.
The most interesting thing was that under the branches of a tree they noticed the corpse of an animal, and it was sucked dry and only bones and skin remained. Sam decided to camp near the tree to watch.
Sam and Ashley made a fire and had a picnic in nature. Then Sam laid out the tent and sent Ashley to sleep first. Somewhere at 4 am they changed.

In the morning Sam noticed that the skin and bones were also gradually dissolving next to the tree, as if the soil was slowly absorbing it all. He decided not to wait any longer, most likely these fruits are poison, but nevertheless he tore everything off, collected it in a bag and they began to come back.
Sam stubbornly continued to convey all the murders to Ashley, she was already level 9. On the way back, they saw a huge boar, it was even larger than the previous wolf.
Sam, without hesitation, rushed forward and told Ashley to stay put. The boar was a powerful animal, its skin was not weaker than that of the L1, besides, it was quite playful.
After another evasion, Sam was about to strike another blow on the boar's hind leg, but he got kicked by boar rear legs, despite the fact that the armor absorbed most of the kinetic energy, this time Sam fell because of the impact and even felt pain. Armor was depleted heavily.
But Sam managed to get up and did not repeat the mistake, as a result, he cut the boar's legs and he could not do anything, Sam called Ashley and she tried her best to get through the eyes to the creature's brain and eventually killed him.
On the way out from forest, Ashley has reached level 10. As it turned out, Ashley chose "lightness" as her first skill. This skill made it possible to make small inanimate objects easier.
They discussed this with Jane, thanks to this skill, both she and her children, and indeed the whole camp, could spend less strength and stamina when wearing weapons and shields, not to mention other possible uses.

How the Stars Turned Red
Announcement as of 05 July 2022: I've been diagnosed with some pretty severe nerve damage in my left arm, rendering me unable to write effectively, and as such this story is on hold until it is healed. I am so sorry, and I promise to get back to writing as soon as possible. In the latter half of the 3rd millennium CE, humanity has spread across the stars, inhabiting close to five-hundred worlds across the Orion Arm. Earth has become irrelevant, a historical has-been. The galactic map is dominated by two mega-factions, both controlling vast amounts of territories either through direct control or through their many allies and treaty signatories. The Kingdom of Aurora is the political and economic hegemon despite consisting of only seven inhabited worlds; their strength lies in the Royal Union, an interstellar commonwealth composing an internal market and a common defence pact. These member worlds are myriad and varied, culturally as well as politically, but they all flock to the same banner. The Independent Systems Alliance, spearheaded by the Republic of Elysium, is the ascendant challenger to Aurora and the Union. A pseudo-federal multi-system polity, the Alliance economy and military is rapidly expanding, but at the cost of effective democratic and meritocratic involvement by its people. However, with two superpowers as this, chafing along a common border, and with a constant clamour of polemics, both sides have become convinced the other is constantly preparing for war and are on the look-out for any perceived weakness in their opponent. The predictable result is a huge arms race and a cold war spreading across the stars, requiring only a spark to set the galaxy aflame. Drawn into this game of high stakes are ordinary men and women, their peaceful lives, hopes, and aspirations swallowed by the vortex of conflict and distrust. This is their story. Cover art by Rhodex Designs (FB). Hope you like long chapters and adjectives. Note: English is not my first language. Another story set in the same universe, written by a good friend
