《Those Zombies Again》Chapter 2

After a while, he went to the door and opened it with a weapon at the ready. Sam hoped that at least a couple of zombies were in the porch, after waiting a little and not hearing any sounds from the porch, he decided that he needs to try to make some noise himself, he began to knock on the door with a stick making noise.
Literally a minute later, he noticed a zombie who was descending the stairs. At least zombie was trying to, after a few steps, he lost his balance and fell. Then he got up again and went to the hole in Sam's door and began to try to get inside.
He looked like a natural walking corpse, except that the eyes were strange, in addition to the fact that the gaze was not focused, the pupils turned pale gray.
Sam was in no hurry to try to kill him, at first he wanted to get used to his appearance a little and calm his nerves. At the same time it was worth to check the zombies for the presence of the rudiments of intelligence and the level of strength.
Watching him for a while, he realized that no surprises would be seen, maybe a zombie was stronger than him, but he could not get through the door, he growled muffled and did not even try to gnaw through the rope, or do anything else.
Gathering his courage, he went to the door and hit the zombie in the chest with a swing, again specifically for testing. The zombie showed no reaction, only slightly backed away from the blow.
Having pacified his curiosity and checked the compliance of the zombies with all canons, he stabbed zombie in the head. He strongly doubted that it was easy to pierce his head with a sharpened wooden stick, but oddly enough he succeeded, the zombie fell and stopped moving.

Sam immediately felt a slight surge of energy, it was very weak, almost imperceptible, but still it was. After which he intuitively felt his own status, there were no screens, no voices or something like that, he just felt it.
Sam level 1
Strength 9 (10 is the average of a typical healthy adult)
Dexterity 9 (10 the average of a typical healthy adult)
Stamina 9 (10 average of a typical healthy adult)
Toughness 10 (10 the average of a typical healthy adult)
Spirit 1 (0 is the average of a typical healthy adult)
Unallocated stat points 2
Strength and dexterity speak for themselves. Stamina, in addition to the obvious endurance increase, also helped to recover faster from injuries. Toughness simply strengthened and tempered the body so that a person would receive less damage.
Spirit is something new, which before people could only guess and fantasize about, that drop of warmth that he felt was a unit of spirit, although rather not a unit, a unit was most likely only a figurative confirmation that Sam received the first drop of spirit, and this indicator was responsible for the strength of the soul. How did he know all this? He just felt it, like the status itself. Also in order to increase spirit you need two unallocated stat points available.
Considering his lifestyle in recent years, it is not surprising that his performance lagged behind normal, the last time he were visiting the gym was probably ten years ago. It's good that he is tall and of a normal build, it could be worse.
While he was killing the first zombie, the noise attracted another one from the lower floors, he crawled forward and also got stuck in the door. This one got blow to the head as well. Once again Sam felt a barely noticeable surge of energy, but no more changes followed.

Blood and zombies on the doorstep of the apartment was an unpleasant sight, he was not going to risk and go out in the near future. After waiting a couple more minutes and not noticing new customers, he pushed the zombies away from the door with his weapon, closed the door and cleaned up.
The sharp edge of his improvised spear broke off, and even while this weapon was intact, it was very difficult to pierce the skull. It is easier to hit the back of the head or eyes though. Anyway he added available parameters to increase his strength.
Now it was time to rest and think over plans for the near future. There was no point in risking your life leaving the apartment in the near future, it is better to open door from time to time and check for a free zombies, in the meantime, you can try to do physical training, in the hope that you can slightly improve your performance.
In any case, he was not special, even if there are a billion people left in the world, or even fewer, surely sooner or later most of them will kill zombies and realize what's what.
Unlike the stories about invincible heroes who conquered the world, nothing like this is foreseen here, he has no advantages over the other survivors, and many of them will have a much better situation.
So it makes no sense to rush to become stronger as soon as possible by running out of the apartment with your hoe to kill zombies. He even strongly doubted that he would have an advantage in his own neighborhood, let alone the world. In general, for this very moment his main goal is safety, but we'll see.
On the Internet the information was essentially the same as what he already knew, except that he realized that no "loot" where inside the zombies. Some fans even managed to completely dismember the unfortunate zombies in search of buns, but did not find anything.

The Stars Have Eyes
The universe was a vast, empty, dark, and uncaring place. Then life happened, and the universe was changed forever. Only a teeny-tiny bit, but definitely different. Then again, the universe changes a teeny-tiny bit every second of every day. For instance, if someone were to get off the couch and randomly drink a glass of milk? Bam! One less glass of milk in the universe. Changed forever. Well, excluding any time-travel shenanigans, but anyone who puts a big old hole in the time-space continuum just to un-drink a glass of milk should really reevaluate their priorities. Unless, of course, they were attempting to prevent some massive catastrophe vis-a-vis said glass of milk. Such a scenario is by no means impossible, as one should never underestimate the importance of calcium. Another important tip for any life forms out there is to keep things in perspective. Some look at the vastness of creation in relation to themselves and go, ‘Man, this sucks!’ These people really need to narrow their focus. Sure, they will never affect anything happening on the other end of the galaxy, but so what? That’s way the heck over there, where it doesn’t matter. Therefore, in order to maintain a healthy mindset, it is important to narrow one’s perspective to the things and people that affect them, and that they can affect in turn. But what happens if one is an unfathomable cosmic being from beyond the veil of reality? What happens when such an existence is capable of influencing entire swathes of the universe just by its presence? A creature such as Magh'rathlak the Observer? That particular entity is only about average as far as reality-warping creatures from the dawn of time go, so its influence over the fabric of reality is rather limited. And it still struggles to keep things in perspective. That, among other things, is why it decided to narrow its worldview a bit by compressing the maddening vastness of its being into a single corporeal form. Magh'rathlak had never tried such a feat, but that wasn't about to stop it. After all, how hard could being human possibly be?
