《Glass Cannon》Chapter 1 - Welcome to the Capital

Nothing really happened while we were traveling. We arrived at the capital at the expected time, in the morning.
Paprika and I got out of the cart that had parked near the city gate.
“It’s huge!” Paprika almost yelled this as soon as we got out the cart, her mouth agape with disbelief.
And she was right. It was absolutely massive, not even comparable to Altair. The city had massive walls surrounding it, extending out as far as the eye could see. A castle peeked over the city wall, seemingly overlooking everything.
“Wow! So this is the capital of Soleris, huh? Amazing…”
“It is quite sublime, is it not?” Someone spoke behind us.
I got startled and immediately turned around to see a middle aged man with hazel hair and eyes and with a very refined and kind-looking face.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you” The man raised his hands in apology.
“No, no don’t worry about it” Paprika also heard me talking and turned around.
“Is this the first time you two visit the capital?”
“Yeah” I responded.
“I hope you have a wonderful time. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to move before the guards spot me.” He pulls down his hood and continues walking like he’s just taking a stroll.
“Who was that?” asked Paprika.
“I have no idea… What a strange man...”
As we were looking at the receding back of the man someone called us.
“Hey, you two adventurers. Stop loitering about! Come on, let’s enter the city.” It was the messenger that gave us the letter. He motioned us to follow him.
“Halt! State your business here!” The guards shouted this as soon as we got close.
“We are here on official government business” The messenger handed the man a letter.

“S..s.ssir Robert! I’m so sorry for the inconvenience! I didn’t recognize you!”
“Do not worry about that. You were doing your job. Now, if you don’t mind” Robert motioned at the gates.
“O, of course!” The guards opened the gates with haste.
As soon as the gates opened you could see people moving around, entering buildings, and exchanging things. Hell, you could even spot a couple of players. It was the hustle and bustle of a huge city, not unlike the metropolises of the real world.
Robert looked at us and smirked.
“Welcome to the capital” he said.
He started moving and once again motioned us to follow him.
“Is it always this busy?” I ask him.
“Yeah, pretty much” he answers nonchalantly.
“Where are we going anyway?” asks Paprika.
“Where else? To the royal castle of course! You are the king’s guests after all.”
The royal castle huh… that’s a first.
After walking for a while the road starts to get steeper. The castle nears with each step we take.
It was majestic, refined and goddamn huge! The Plexus Castle was by no means something to scoff at.
We entered the castle without a moment’s hesitation, the guards lowering their heads as soon as Robert walked by. It was clear that every military personnel in the city respected and feared this man. Hmm, I wonder who he is though. I’ve never heard of him. After we climbed a set of stairs, Robert stopped before two doors.
“You will be staying here. The king wants to have dinner with you so I advise that you get some rest. When the time comes you will be escorted by the servants. Now, if you’ll excuse me” He walks away, leaving us alone.
“Well, that’s that. We might as well sleep, log off for a bit” I say.

“Yeah, you’re right. I’ve been playing for way too long. But… dinner with the king. I suppose it doesn’t happen often?”
“You can count the players invited to the Plexus Castle with two hands, so it’s just a tab bit rare.”
“All this because you killed a gargoyle? Hmph, talk about over-compensation.”
“Do you know how hard it was to kill that piece of shit? That thing survived getting buried in boulders! But I don’t think it’s about the gargoyle as much as it is about the cult. The gargoyle must have played some part in it too, sure, since I haven’t heard of a player actually ever killing one but the cult must be the main point of interest.”
“You think we’ll get information on Corrazgus?”
“Yeah, we’ll finally get some information to advance that stupid quest.”
“Finding information on that guy was hard enough. We had to comb through the entire library in Altair and even then we only found tiny pieces of intel.”
“Yeah, we basically wasted our time. Just remembering all that reading gives me a headache” I cringe a bit at the memory flashing through my mind.
“I’ve been meaning to ask this actually, but how did you find out that Corrazgus was one of the 7 demon lords? Intuition?”
“If ‘Corrazgus’ isn’t the name of a demon lord… I don’t know what is.”
“You went by that ‘logic’ alone?”
“Yeah. Something wrong with it?”
“No, no, there’s nothing wrong with it” Paprika chuckles as she enters the room on the right. “You can be surprisingly simple sometimes, Jack.”
“Eh, did you say something?”
“Nope, nothing. By the way, how do you sleep in this game?”
“Sigh; say ‘Sleep’ while lying down on a bed.”
“Ok, thanks!” She closes the door.
That girl really lacks some common sense. I open the door to my room and head straight for the bed, laying down on it. Now that I think about it, it’s been a while since my character has slept. A bit more and he’ll become sleep deprived.
“Sleep!”

As soon as I open my eyes, the capsule opens up in sync. Sheesh, that was quite the session.
For now I should go and make something to eat. I’m kinda hungry.
I trot down the stairs and straight to the fridge.

Unknown to these players, Colin (DevilWalker in-game) was an Assassin for hire that takes loyalty and betrayal seriously. It was never just about business, and this was not just another aspect of the game for him. This game was a gift from his wife, and he wasn't just going to stop. Now these players and anyone who harbors them are on his list. There will be no compromise, no remorse, and No Absolution to any who betrays Colin Drummond, The DevilWalker. * * * * * * * * * * This story is a LitRPG Action/Adventure story that will feature levels, skills, abilities, monsters, douchebag players, exciting and cool equipment with so much more. I have so much planned for this that it should be fun and entertaining for readers who enjoy the LitRPG genre as much as I do. Please join me as I recount the tale of a man who becomes a legend — both in-game and out of it. I plan to attempt a weekly update schedule. Upload Sunday evening(for me). Warning! This story will involve some amount of cussing to help add some realism and some insinuated sex that will fade to black the moment the fun begins. I am hoping to mostly keep this Rated PG-13 with maybe a few Chapters going rated-R due to language.

Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)

8 193Monstrous Path
This story is both dark and lighthearted, it will have a lot of deaths and gore scenes but not just for the sake of being edgy or something like that. Every being comes from someone’s life — a womb, an egg, the world, a God, and from itself. Then what about me? I came from a container, so what does that make me? Am I still a being? “I do not know — I want to understand — why?” This was my driving force to live when I opened my eyes, I had no need for food, I only needed to satiate my curiosity. But as I learned early on, life was not as simple as it seemed. Note: The Characters in this world would always have a reason for living, and the world moves not just because of the MC. This would also have a lot of tearjerking scenes (or so I would hope) Culture, Race, Government, and Language can and will be different and though some Races like Elves and Dwarves are present, please do not think that they are the same as every other.
