《Glass Cannon》Ch.5 - The Three Week Grind(4)

So I just received an SSS ranked quest, that will presumably "determine" the fate of the world.
I sit there, looking at the window screen. This was quite amazing indeed.
The quest got automatically accepted.
"Oooh, amazing!!! This is amazing! So this is the legendary sword!! Tell me, tell me! Do you feel any different? Like a gear shifting, or a, an emotional change? Do you feel strange?" The archmage almost yells out of excitement but recollects himself.
"Uh, I really don't feel any different. Well, not counting how surprised I am."
"Ah, you're right. Harmakis is the god of neutrality after all. It reasonable you wouldn't feel any different."
"Different?"
"Well, you see traveler... this sword isn't a sword. It's a god's soul. And this soul is now bound to you. But the gods have feelings as well. So these feelings will get mixed up with yours."
That sounds like a major pain in the ass.
"Do the legends say anything about the souls' locations?"
"No, I'm afraid they don't."
"Oh, that's a sha...."
"But the old tomes up at the King's Archives might hold some information. If you're willing to take the risk that is."
"Death is the least of my concerns. Where are these 'Archives'?" It was true. If he died he'd just respawn.
"The Archives are located North of Orjana. They're sitting on top of the Cingari mountains. There's bound to be some information about the souls out there. But trying to get into that place is suicidal."
Suicidal is my middle name.Literally.
"Uh, where is Orjana located?"
"You're really new to these lands, aren't you? Orjana's the biggest city on the Continent. It's just North-East of this place."

Quest Information updated.
Secondary objective added.
"Infiltrate the King's Archives, to uncover information about the location of the 3 gods"
___________________________________________________________________________________
"Oh, ok. Thanks for the help old man. I'll get going."
I exit the room. My goal, for now, was... completing this quest. A far shot I know but, working towards an objective makes it much easier to play a game.
But why was I given this sword anyway? It seems to be the gateway to a huge quest. And it's a sweet ass sword! It scales with my stats! I'm never going to need a sword in my life! But, the durability is so low. Huh, even my sword is glass-cannonny.
But Difficulty SSS... I wonder what level I'd have to be to complete this quest.
Ahhh, I'll worry about that when the time comes. For now, let's go and hunt and then after I reach level 60 or something I'll go towards that Archive Place. After all, I've got this nice sword, I better use it!
******
I can't hit anything! It's fucking frustrating! Why can't I hit the motherfucking rabbit? When I try and hit I always miss the rabbit by a long shot! And the sword doesn't feel comfortable at all.
"UGHHHH!" I grunt and swing the sword madly in all directions. After like 1 minute of doing this I sit in the grass and sigh heavily.

I wasn't that far away from the city walls. I decided to play it safe because of that post I read. If some insanely powerful enemy comes around I can just run away.
But why can't I hit the fucking rabbit? It's so hard!
A rabbit comes near me. What, have you come to mock me now for being so unskilled?
The rabbit bounces randomly around me. I watch it closely. After some time of staring at the rabbit, I noticed something. I was starting to predict it's moves. It didn't seem that random now.
Ah, I get it. How could I have been so blind? Instead of swinging the sword in the rabbit's general directing, I should try and read it's moves. I was thinking of this too much like real life. It's a game and every enemy has some kind of pattern of attack and movement, even if that pattern is very complex.
I stare at the rabbit some more to get a better feel for its movement.
After an hour or so I get up, take Harmakis and resume my "hunt".
I get near a rabbit. Now I'd memorized it's pattern completely. The rabbit sees me and It tries to run away. Having anticipated that I bring my sword down on it and cut it's head off.

[Sword Mastery] Skill
Has leveled up.
Damage dealt with swords increased to 6%.
_______________________________________________
"Yes!"I shout happily. My first kill! Fuck you, you rabbit motherfucker. I'm the one who got to have the last laugh. And my sword mastery skill leveled up too! This was great!
I take the carcass and try to skin it. I end up with a horribly mangled rabbit skin. This might take a little bit of practice. And it's very fucking nasty. The rabbit dropped 1 copper coin too. Insignificant.
I stride happily through the plains just outside the city killing rabbits left and right. I am getting the hang of this. And Harmakis was very strong so they die in 1 hit. Sweet! Umm, now that I think about it didn't Harmakis have 3 different modes? How do I activate those?
I try and shout "Speed Mode".
_____________________________________________
Speed mode activated.
Damage reduced.
Speed greatly increased.
____________________________________________________
So that's how it works.
Let's try it out! I walk up to a rabbit and swing my sword...
What the hell? I'm swinging so fast that the sword looks like a flash of light. The sword is producing afterimages. It looks like I'm swinging multiple swords at the same time!
The rabbit gets completely obliterated, defense and all. It got minced to mush.
Oookaay. This mode is too powerful for my own good. There's not even a rabbit left! I should go back to attack.
________________________________________________
Attack Mode activated.
Damage greatly increased.
Speed returns to normal.
___________________________________________________
Huh, that's better. But the durability is still very low. I wonder if defense raises that.
______________________________________________________________
Defense mode activated.
Durability increased drastically.
Speed decreased a bit.
Damage decreased a bit.
_______________________________________________________________________
Ohh, this is amazing! Perfect for grinding! And this sword's even more amazing than I thought! It becomes a completely different weapon every time I change modes!

By the way, I have killed 15 rabbits by now. I should be ready to level up.
I want to find some better prey but going near that forest is just too reckless. Let's play it safe... is what I'd say if I was a wimp. I go near the forest looking for some foxes or even a wolf. The forest doesn't disappoint because after only 2 minutes of searching I spot a fox. The fox spots me too and bares its fangs.
"Ooh, you're an aggressive little fella, aren't you? Well, bring it on!"
The fox slowly draws near me as it circles me. But this sure is different from fighting rabbits. Because this time the enemy can actually hit back.
The fox continues to circle me. I watch it closely. I'm getting used to holding a sword too. After some time of circling me and staring me straight in the eye, the fox finally lunges forward.
Shit, that caught me a bit off-guard. I try to dodge but I can't. The fox plunges it's teeth into my left arm.
_______________________________________
You have taken 200 damage.
_____________________________________________
"OUUUU! THat fucking hurt you piece of shit!" I swing the sword towards the fox that was now open and chop it's head off.
Shit!Fuck!ShitFuck! I forgot I set the pain setting to hyper realistic! This hurt like a bitch! I grit my teeth as I clench my fists.
I shouldn't have gotten so cocky! Fighting an enemy that fights back is definitely different from fighting rabbits!
And this pain won't go away! It fucking hurts! But this is what I get for being careless. I stop myself from changing my pain setting. From now on I won't get hit! It's a new policy! I'm going to try to dodge everything! If I don't get hit I don't have to experience this pain! And I barely have any health anyway. If someone so much as sneezes on me I'll break like a twig! So from now on I'm going to dodge everything.
But... the worst thing is...I didn't even level up! What's up with that?

Caution:Satiety Levels Low.
Due to low satiety levels, Health decreased by 40%.
Stamina depletes faster.
_____________________________________________________________
Ugh, and I need to eat something too. I can't go and eat in the city because I'm broke so I guess this fox will do. If I can learn to start a fire that is.
Well, time for a little trip to the internet to learn how to start a fire!
***
I found some articles about this online, fortunately. I take a stick lying on the ground and some rocks. I make a circle with the rocks and fill it with grass and some twigs I find lying around. After that, I take the stick and make a pointy end.
Fortunately, there's a medium sized tree branch near me. I cut the branch up with my sword. Thank god for defense mode. If It wasn't for this Harmakis would have broken a long time ago.
After I do that I take a piece of the branch and cut it in half and carve a little canal on it. The rest of the pieces are gonna get used for fuel.
I take the stick from earlier and rub the canal to create some wood dust.
____________________________________________________
[Caution]:Satiety Levels Dangerously Low
Due to extremely low satiety levels, Heath decreased by 70%
Stamina depletes much faster.
________________________________________________________
Ah, fuck all that work tired me out. I need to hurry. I take the plank to my knee and let the dust hit the ground. After that, I start rubbing the canal like mad with all my remaining strength. A spark gets finally created. I take dust and blow on it. After that, I take a twig and light in on fire. I bring that twig to the firepit.
Ahhh, the hunger pains are insane! My arm still hurts like a bitch! But fortunately, the fire pit lights up nicely. I throw some wood in the fire just like I read in the article and quickly skin the fox. I take the guts out too.
I take a stick and shove it down the fox and roast it over a fire.
It takes about 30 minutes for the fox to cook.
Ting!

Oh, I got a skill! And a... perk? What's that? Well, I'm gonna find out after eating.
I bite into the fox. Not tasty at all. It has kind of a metallic taste to it. Blegh. I put in so much work just to eat this piece of shit. Well, that's what the fox gets for biting my fucking arm. And this is better than starving to death. I eat the whole fox.
Now let's check my stats.

Oh, nice. That's actually very helpful! I didn't know there were perks in this game! I guess there's just tons of things I don't know about this game. And I can't wait to uncover those secrets!
I sat there near my cozy fire. The sun was setting. The sky had turned orange. It was truly a beautiful sight.
