《Glass Cannon》Ch.4 - The 3 Week Grind(3)

I go towards the Identification Center. I read about this place in the forums. It's a building dedicated to identifying items. Every starting city has it and it identifies items for free if it's your first time. Perfect for a newbie for me.
I enter the identification center and walk towards the front desk.
"I'd like to identify an item."
"Is it your first time?"
"Yes"
"Take a right and enter the first door. Identification is free since it's your first time. We would like you to fill these forums too. Don't worry, they will automatically fill out when you touch them"
I touch the forums and words get magically written on them.
"Thank you for your compliance. You may continue."
I follow the instructions and enter the door. Hundreds of big floating purple crystals were lined up each being manned by magicians. There were many other players in here too. I walk towards a random one while pulling Harmakis out of my inventory.

The sword is much lighter than expected.
"I'd like to identify this sword."
" No problem. Just place it in the desk."
I place the sword on top of the desk with no difficulty.
The magician chants some spell and the crystal spins at great speed.
Wait...what's this sound?
*Crackle* *Crackle*
The crystal shatters into a million pieces.
The eyes of the other players near me turn towards the desk.
"IM...IMPOSSIBLE!!" The wizard yells."That's a level 9 identification gem!"
Oh god why do these things happen to me?
"S..stay right here!" the magician yells and dashes out of the room.
10 seconds later the magician eners the room again and runs towards me gasping for air.

"C..come with me! Take that sword too."
By now the eyes of EVERYONE in the identification center had turned to me. So much for trying not to attract attention.
I take Harmakis and put it in my inventory and follow the magician. This seems shady but I'm gonna play along with it for now.
The magician leads me to a red door at the end of the hallway and chants some weird spell. The door opens.
Contrary to the door the room is so white it hurts my eyes.
At the center sits a huge red crystal that's spinning around slowly.
The door closes behind me with a thud.
"Place Harmakis down in the floor." I hear a raspy voice behind me.
I turn to see a man around his 20-s wearing a long white robe. If RPG-s have taught me anything it's that those are the robes of an archmage. But:
"How do you know the name of my sword?"
"Of course I'd know the name of one of 3 legendary weapons. A blue, shining blade with ancient marks all over it. It's common knowledge to us, archmages. Now , place the sword down so the gem identifies it."
I look at them with weary eyes:
"But who's to say you won't just steal it? A petty adventurer like me would be no match to an archmage."
The man chuckled:
"You're new to these parts aren't you? The sword is soul-bound to you. Other people can't touch it"
"And why is it you're so eager to identify this sword?"
"You sure ask a lot of question don't you? I'm just excited that a legendary item is going to be identified in my center! That's all there is to it"
He didn't seem to be lying. If she did I'd be able to tell. I'd worked with pretty shady people in the past so I had my fair share of street smarts. I could tell when someone was lying to me.

I take Harmakis out of my inventory. When I do the girl's eyes glitter with amazement. She looks like she wants to eat the sword.
I put Harmakis on the floor. When I do the gem starts spinning like crazy.
I back up a bit.
"The legends say that when a legendary item is identified the whole world comes to a standstill. I'm excited to see if that's true."
The gem spins and spins and finally a blinding light covers the room.
And before me stands not a sword but a naked girl with pearl white skin.
I look around me to see that time has stopped. The archmage is frozen in place, unomoving.
But I am able to move forward with no difficulty.
"Hello, Jack. I'm Harmakis, the God of Neutrality. I can only keep this human form for so long before turning to a sword once more. So use me well, mortal Jack. Oh, and when the time comes, remember, that many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. So do not be too eager to deal out death. For even we gods cannot see all ends. Farewell, Jack. The next time you see me will be at the end of your journey.”
Time restores.
*******************
Ah this chill. This feeling I've been waiting for this for so long! Harmakis,! Finally after 3500 years a new Wielder is born!
I look forward to meeting you.
*****************
I knew that the time would come one day. Harmakis, my friend, you're finally back. I hope we can unite once more.
*****************
I walk towards Harmakis, who turned into a "normal" sword once more.
I pick it up.

Gaslgiht
There is a common line of questioning that falls upon students within their first moments at Kingsly. “Why?”. The student asks, “Why am I here?”. This is a futile line of questioning. There are those who remember, and those who do not. I’ll spare you the technical explanation — that’s what we have teachers for. The jist is as follows: those who remember are... how do I put this... more likely. They occupy more time. and the space that time has allowed them — the pertinent amount — is experienced no matter what. Allow me to offer you a bit of personal information: I am not one who remembers. There is no time relevant to me, no space that I occupy. I exist by carving myself here, and continue to exist in the same fashion. You would do well to follow suit. Why am I here? Because I force myself to be. Because the universe, the universes, for all its kicking and screaming, cannot escort me out.
