Mother…. my last moments of mother keep replaying over and over in my head as I swim as far away as I can.

I come to a stop after I can’t swim anymore and my tentacles feel like jelly. I fight back the tears as best as I can but I can only think about how I had failed mother. I try to clear my head, mother wouldn’t have wanted me to wallow in regret right now, I console myself but no matter how much I say things like that to myself it doesn't make me feel any better. In such a short amount of time, I had lost everything. Mother. My siblings. The cave. It isn’t fair! I get turned into an octopus, I have to eat my siblings to survive and then that fucking crab waltzes into my life and take everything away. It isn’t fair!!

After I finish throwing my little tantrum I look to my surroundings. Where am I…

I had been completely wrapped up in my thoughts that I didn’t pay attention to my surroundings. I couldn’t make out anything in the darkness, and the moon wasn’t much help. I focus really hard trying to make out some semblance of where I’ve got myself stranded.

My vision immediately brightens up a bit as I acquired the new skill. That pretty neat, I look around trying to see anything that I can identify, I immediately sport a cluster of weird-looking trees. What’s that? I draw closer to one of the trees, once I arrive near it I use inspect.

So it was coral, which means this is a coral reef. Just to be sure I used to inspect several more times on the surroundings.

Nice. Since it leveled up I should be getting more information. I use my newly leveled up skill on one of the larger corals I can find.

I really shouldn’t have expected that much. At least I know the name of this coral. I back up and look at giant coral before my eyes. Huh, I can see it's called an Octopi coral. It kinda looks like a giant octopus. Immediately images of mother flood my mind and leave me with a bitter taste in my beak.

I should get moving I say bitterly to myself.

My stomach feels empty but I can’t do anything about it right now. Even though I escaped from the crab that doesn’t mean I’m now in the clear. For all, I know every other monster could be as strong as the crab or mole stronger. I should stop thinking about this, for now, let’s find somewhere to sleep.

It’s been an hour or so since I’ve left the cave. I’ve been on the lookout for somewhere to rest but everywhere I search I can’t seem to find an adequate place to sleep. All of a sudden my instincts start to scream at me, I immediately stop moving. What?... why do I feel like I’m being watched right now. After what seemed like hours to me the feeling finally starts to vanish, even though that horrible feeling I had felt was gone I stay motionless.

SNAP!!!

Just in front of me, a large eel-like creature moves with blinding speed. I slowly avert my eyes to the front of the creature. I see bits of meat drift to the sea bed as the eel starts to munch away at its victim. What the fuck?..... I want to run away but my instinct is screaming at me to stay still.

The eel slowly retracts back into the ground after that sudden burst of speed. I slowly start to move away from the place and once I’m sure that the eel can’t reach me if it comes out again I start swimming away quickly. Damn, that was a complete failure, I look around and this time I see a tiny little hole. I swim closer to it and fit my tentacles inside. Huh, it looks like it goes in pretty deep. I recall hearing something about octopus being able to fit through anything bigger than its beak. I pull my tentacles out and check whether the hole is larger than my beak. I size up the hole with my beak and it seems that the hole is bigger than my beak, I start squeezing myself into the hole, it seems that the hole is pretty deep. I continue moving deeper into the whole and the deeper I go the bigger the passageway starts to get, soon I reach a dead end and I no longer have to squeeze myself to fit. I guess this will work, slowly curling into myself I let the darkness take me away to sleep.

Uuuugh……

My stomach feels so empty. Have to find something to eat… I say weakly to myself. I start squeezing myself out of the cave and into the daylight. All around me I can see corals of different sizes, shapes, and thousand of colors. It looked like some kind of fairy tale with the many vibrant and spectacular looking fish and coral, but I was too hungry to take notice of the colors, to me everything was blurry and I want to be able to focus on everything.

With my mind only focused on getting something to eat I didn’t realize that I had gotten a new skill. After scanning around for something to eat my eyes narrow down on a very small looking fish. I got ready to swim as fast as I could to the fish but I snapped out of my hunger-induced mind. Phew… that was lucky, I could have made a very bad mistake right now. I look at the small fish once again, it doesn’t look that strong to me…

Before I started thinking of a plan to kill the fish I wanted to check my status.

4/5 hp, so I did heal up naturally, wait, is that what vitality does? Make my regen faster? Or is it something else? Questions for another time, right now let’s sneak up on this fish. I hide behind some of the coral and make sure I’m not being watched by anything that would find me appetizing. Eventually, after sneaking around I get right behind it.

So… do I go guns blazing and bite it to death or do I try to kill it with acid shot?...

Guns a blazing doesn’t sound very safe to me but I might miss and blow my cover if I use acid shot. I decided that I would check the fishes stats before I actually did anything. I slowly swim closer to the fish before I can’t get any closer without revealing my location.

Nice, at this point I would take any level-ups. I then activate inspect as soon as the fish’s back is turned toward me.

What!... its rank is higher than me. I was hoping that its rank was the same as mine so it would be a fair fight but… dammit, I don’t have a choice, I don’t think I can last any longer if I have to find something else to eat. Fuck it. I aim with my beak and I shoot off a ball of acid.

Success! I hit it, oh shit I hit it. The fish starts to thrash around in pain and immediately looks at me. Well, shit. It charges right at me with its jaw open revealing rows of sharp teeth. As it starts to close the distance between us, I quickly shoot off another shot of acid. The fish this time quickly dodges and resumes charging towards me. Shit. As the row of teeth is about to sink their jaws into me a strange feeling starts to tingle within me like taking a shit, and then all of a sudden a small cloud of ink got shot out of me. The fish gets blinded by the cloud of ink and tries to find me.

I’m as confused as the fish is… What the hell was that, wait, was that my unique skill [Ink Cloud], so that’s how you use it, you kinda have to take a shit. The fish no longer blinded, looks at me, and with its fishy expression looks absolutely livid. I check its status again.

It’s status got changed, Enraged and it’s small? Is it really that pissed off at me? It’s just a joke bro. The guppy immediately charges at me again except that it seemed to move way faster than it did before. The sudden change in speed catches me off guard and then a searing hot feeling fills my body.
