《Kali Yuga》Chapter 51. Pan Wei's strength.

Pan Wei watched Fan Zheng closely, "Hmm... oy monkey, you sure are brave. Why don't you surrender and serve me?"
Fan Zheng smiled and calmly answered, "You aren't that brave, coming here with all that armors, you're calling other people as turtle but looking at you now, aren't you the one who look like a turtle?"
Pan Wei snorted, "Hah, just like a monkey, you know how to use your tongue. If I'm not wearing an armor, then wouldn't I be shot to death before I could say turtle? Its your army that looks like a turtle, hiding behind iron walls."
Fan Zheng laughed heartily, "Hahahahaha... so we're grandpa turtle and you're little turtle. Hurry, kneel down, bow to your grandpa, hahahaha."
Pan Wei's eyes bulging out from anger, "Hmmm... I guess you'll need to learn a lesson or two.. grand daddy my a**, I'll show you who's your grand daddy!"
Fan Zheng didn't stop walking as they exchanged words, step by step he moved closer to Pan Wei. When Pan Wei raised his glaive to charge, Fan Zheng lower his body and shot forward, closing the distant in less than one breath. Pan Wei didn't expect him to charge, most people raised their weapon to block his glaive when he raised it or scared and retreated.
He saw Fan Zheng closed the distant, but his body moved on its own from the habit that was formed during his past experiences.
The glaive whistled as Fan Zheng passed the blade, where the force was at its maximum. With a beautiful arc, Fan Zheng's body moved like a whirl, one sword deflected the glaive near the center where he had maximum leverage, causing the glaive to struck harder on the bridge and opened a gap at Pan Wei's body. His other sword swung to stab the opening.
But Pan Wei wasn't an amateur, his reaction was a bit slow because Fan Zheng's action was different from his opponents in the past. As soon as he realized Fan Zheng's movement, quickly one of his hand released the glaive. His free hand quickly hammered Fan Zheng's top of head.
Fan Zheng had to give his head, if he wanted to stab Pan Wei's side.
Of course he wasn't willing to accept that exchange. Fan Zheng's use his supporting leg to push himself even farther forward and rolled behind Pan Wei.
Pan Wei kicked to his behind, while turned his body and grabbed his glaive back into position. Fan Zheng's position wasn't stable enough to launch another attack when Pan Wei's boot swung backward toward his body. He was forced to throw himself away from Pan Wei and gave Pan Wei the time he was needed to prepare for the next exchange.
Pan Wei of course, didn't willing to let Fan Zheng had the initiative, now that he had him retreating. As soon as he turned his body, he swung his glaive to chase Fan Zheng who just got up on his feet.
Fan Zheng didn't have time to do anything but to raise his twin sword to block. He didn't resist it as the glaive struck true to his crossed sword and threw him few meters away. Despite his effort to reduce the shock, Fan Zheng still could feel his arm numbed from the clash.

Pan Wei pursued him with another attack, he swung his glaive viciously and Fan Zheng was forced to defend without any chance to strike back.
Fan Zheng didn't become panic though, he calmly received Pan Wei's attack. His eyes never stopped looking for an opening at Pan Wei's defense. Pan Wei in the other hand, didn't relaxed his attack, he methodically closed any chance for Fan Zheng to strike back.
Fan Zheng was waiting for the moment when Pan Wei had to stop and catch up his breath, but Pan Wei moved like he didn't need to breath at all. It wasn't like Fan Zheng could relax too, after tens of bouts, Fan Zheng's breathing was ragged.
Zhang Hu already equipped in full armor and watched from behind the iron shield. He couldn't his his worry. He never expected it that there was someone who could fight like Pan Wei among Feng Jin's rank.
'Hmm... who could match his strength among my men?', he wondered.
He had spar with many fighters within his army and tested their individual strength. Although many were strong and agile, it was rare to find anyone who could win against Fan Zheng or Zhang Hu himself. Beside until now, they didn't focus on individual ability but rather in the military organization and how to cooperate when doing battle in group.
Other group survivors also survived through cooperation, it was rare for certain individual to have the courage to face the horde of zombies alone.
'I wish I have Zhang Tian Yi or Liu Wang Yun now...', Zhang Hu sighed.
He didn't regret his decision to send them away though, because no one knew the future, he was making his best decision based on the situation at that time.
Fan Zheng was forced to catch his breath and stumbled as he avoided another attack from Pan Wei. His sword were struck well when his hand wasn't ready. Pan Wei sent Fan Zheng's sword flew in the air.
Pan Wei roared, "I GOT YOU NOW!!! DIE YOU PUNK!!!"
Zhang Hu was already jumped over the iron shield by that time and without any hesitation threw his spear toward Pan Wei's back, as he ran toward them to join the fight. Pan Wei who was ready to give the final struck, heard the spear, whistling as it split the air. He could feel enormous danger from his back and instinctively ducked as he swept his glaive to cover his back.
'PANG !'
Pan Wei's glaive struck Zhang Hu's flying iron spear and sent it whirling on the air.
Zhang Hu leaped high to catch his spear. From the height in the air, he dropped toward Pan Wei and swung his spear, to chop Pan Wei's head.
"DON'T YOU DARE TO HARM MY BROTHER !!!", Zhang Hu roared as he struck Pan Wei like an avalanche.
Pan Wei lifted his glaive to block Zhang Hu's spear, one hand on the handle and the other hand supporting the back of his blade.
'PANGGG.... !!!'

This time the sound was reverberating all over the battle field. Both man had a giant build. Although Pan Wei's armor was more intimidating, Zhang Hu's anger from watching his sworn brother almost killed by Pan Wei gave him an intimidating aura as well. Zhang Hu's iron spear was pressuring from the top, trying to go through Pan Wei's block. Pan Wei was struggling to raise his glaive and change the direction of Zhang Hu's spear who was threatening his head.
It was the battle of strength between two giants.
Fan Zheng wasn't watching it idly, he quickly retrieved his sword and without any hesitation charged to strike Pan Wei from behind.
But Pan Wei proved his unrivaled strength. With a grunted, he threw Zhang Hu;s spear away from him and turned to block Fan Zheng's attack.
Both Pan Wei and Zhang Hu might had similar strength before the changes, but when Zhang Hu busied with administering his people, Pan Wei did nothing but raising his strength and battling. He didn't care about his people the way Zhang Hu did. He would requested food and women from his people, while he raised his stat by "protecting" them from the zombies.
That was why, Feng Jin had his hand on the leader position, despite Pan Wei's individual strength. Because Feng Jin had bigger army when Pan Wei only focused on his own strength.
The fight continued, with Zhang Hu entered the battle, it was more balanced. Pan Wei must watched for an attack from two opponent and couldn't attack as much as he like as before. It was hard to predict who was going to win but Feng Jin's side was shouting and yelling as Pan Wei alone could fight evenly against two opponent.
There was another thing that worried Zhang Hu, once the zombies wave ended, his 10,000 men would begin their attack to Feng Jin's army. If he and Fan Zheng couldn't beat Pan Wei by that time, then they won't be able to move their 8,000 men to attack from the front. The 10,000 men would fight alone, Feng Jin could re-position his machine gun to mow his men.
He wasn't just fighting against Pan Wei, he was fighting against the time as well.
The time was ticking, even after they fought for more than half an hour, Pan Wei wasn't losing, in fact he began to gain upper hand. He had much better armor and could risk some opening, while Zhang Hu and Fan Zheng couldn't.
Yue Guang and Yue Rang who was watching the fight began to watch restlessly.
Yue Rang then asked his staff, "Could you prepare another set of armor?"
He was preparing to join the fray when suddenly there was some commotion from the direction behind their army.
"What is that now?", Yue Rang frowned, he could feel his heart sunk to his stomach.
Quickly he and his staff went to see the situation, they were in their way when one of their men was running toward them.
"Its Zhang Tian Yi... and Huang Wen... they have... more... than 1000 people... from Nan An... with... them.", he reported with broken words as he catch his breath.
"What?", Yue Rang raised his eyebrows.
He was trying to remember where he heard those names when someone was passing him like a blurred shadow.
"Hey...! Catch that man!", Yue Rang was surprised and quickly commanded his men.
"Wait ! Let him pass!", another group of men was running toward Yue Rang.
But they didn't need to shout, since no one could stop that man.
"Who are you ?", Yue Rang asked.
"My name is Zhang Tian Yi, we was on a mission, we was sent by Master Zhang Hu to help his friends who live in Nan An, when the demon's invasion happened at Fuzhou.", Zhang Tian Yi calmly explained.
It was by then, that Yue Rang remembered their names. Zhang Tian Yi, Liu Wang Yun, Chen Wu Xuang, Ma Heng and Tian Zhong.
"And that person...", Yue Rang wanted to confirm.
"That young man is Huang Wen. Zhang Hu's going to be son in law.", Zhang Tian Yi answered.
Yue Rang sighed in relieve, he quickly greeted them, "Forgive me, my name is Yue Rang, Master Zhang Hu appointed me to be lead his army."
Zhang Tian Yi and the others quickly bowed in return, "Don't worry, we came in such manner. Of course Master Yue Rang must act carefully."
Yue Rang shook his head and laughed, "I should know, since our patrol let you guys passed, that means we're on the same side. It was the situation at our front line that made me act rashly."
"Ah, is it true that Brother Fan Zheng and Brother Zhang Hu were fighting against strong opponent?", Chen Fang asked.
Yue Rang raised his eyebrows, since everyone else called Zhang Hu, Master Zhang Hu, only Fan Zheng and Yue Guang called him brother.
"Yes, its true. Come, let's go to see them. I was preparing my self to join the battle before I heard commotion from our rear line.", said Yue Rang as he brought them to the command center tent, where they could watch the situation safely.
As they went, they introduced their names one by one. Aside from Zhang Tian Yi and his friends, also came with them were Xia Bao and Chen Fang.
Mean while Huang Wen sprinted at his top speed, since he ran from behind them, people only noticed him when he already passed them. He quickly reached the iron shield and jumped over easily.
"Uncle Zhang ! Uncle Fan ! Let me help you !", he shouted as he drew his bastard sword.

Does Hell Have an Adventurers' Guild?
I have decided to try out a different style. I cannot say much at this point, the story is mostly fantasy/romance and will evolve as I go, but it will involve an "adventurers' guild" in a demonic setting. MC will be a reincarnator becoming a denizen of hell, I will add vital description as I go. Gore will be used with reason, some bad words here and there and severe explicit or traumatizing content will be announced in advance, but it will not be the focus of the work.
