《Kali Yuga》Chapter 4 : Survive The First Day (part-2).

Huang Wen gathered his courage and jumped. If it was yesterday, he would not have the courage to do it, but within hours, we could say that he was reborn. He had to experience life and death situation, and survived. That experience boosted his confidence. He survived dangerous situations where most other people failed to survive. This sense of power, this feeling of superiority, it gave him courage above normal people.
That courage brought calmness in assessing situation, confidence in taking daring action and false sense of immortality.
It brought positive changes as well as negative changes.
Huang Wen held the bed sheet rope and hung it right outside the window below, he peeked to see the situation inside. At that time, there were no zombies inside the room. The door of that room already destroyed, the furnitures were in disarray and blood splattered on several spot.
"I guess, someone was in the room, attacked and died. Now both the zombies and the victims must be around the corridor. When I broke through the window, the noise will alert them ... "
Huang Wen carefully planned his action once he broke into that room. He looked at the scattered stuff in that room and started to visualize how he would use them to secure the room. He didn't want ended up locked in this room, but he needed to make sure that he would be able to keep the zombies at bay as well.
"Hmm.... it might work, it might not... I guess I don't have much choice...", he whispered to himself.
At the same time, a group of survivors tried to breakthrough, working as a group they manage to cover each other.
"Watch your right! Right!"
"Don't run too fast!"
"Keep sharp! Keep sharp! Anyone gets a scratch or bite, we will leave you!", someone in the center of that formation kept yelling.
Huang Wen squinted his eyes. That voice was familiar to him.
He said to himself, "Hmm.... Chen Li Jian. Truly he's born to lead others."
The one who led that group was quite famous in Fuzhou University, head of the student, always be the first to organize any school activity. This time he managed to organize the survivor from the boy's dormitory to break through the zombies.
"A Peng, go changes place with Big Yue! Liang, go changes place with Zhang Feng!", Chen Li Jian gave a series of orders.
"We move toward those buses!"
Following Chen Li Jian's order they managed to keep their formation tight, moving in unison they breakthrough the zombies steadily. Huang Wen hesitated to execute his plan. Wouldn't it be better if he joined Chen Li Jian?
Some people were trapped in the office room below seemed to think like that because a moment after Chen Li Jian's group came to the scene. There were four or five people started yelling from that direction.
"Help us!"
"Take us with you!"
"We're here! Don't leave us here!"
Huang Wen thought of this Chen Li Jian. Chen Li Jian wouldn't remember him, but he remembered Chen Li Jian. It was during the initiation period. A week where the new student would be introduced to the life in Fuzhou University. Huang Wen was a freshman and Chen Li Jian already in his 2nd year.
Chen Li Jian was part of the committee that organized it. Huang Wen still remembered clearly the humiliation he had to go through that period. In the name of strengthening their resolution, or their mental attitude, they need to go through various useless and sometimes humiliating tasks. Huang Wen sighed and shook his head.

"He's just another bullies in uniform.", he said to himself.
With that in mind he decided to survive on his own rather than following Chen Li Jian.
Now he saw Chen Li Jian as a distraction for the zombies, "This is my chance! They will attract lots of attention."
He smiled, "Okay, first... this..."
Huang Wen took out the small book he got from the dead zombies before.
"Fireball learned!", with a thought Huang Wen learned the skill.
He decided that he needed some insurance, a plan B when things goes wrong. It took one slot out of three. Huang Wen believed that it was a too huge investment for something that could only be used once every three days. But he decided that he couldn't too picky in his current situation. One extra skill could mean life or death. Even if there was a possibility that in the future he got much better skill book and couldn't learn it because the slot is used by heavily limited skill, it meant nothing. For that possibility to happen, he must survive first.
Besides, it was true that currently at mastery level 1, he could only use the skill once every three days, but there must be a way to improve the skill. So it wasn't that bad.
As soon as he felt the knowledge enter his mind, Huang Wen without any hesitation pushed himself against the wall and swung toward the window. With loud noise, he broke into the room. Quickly he leaped to his feet, put down his bag and started to barricade the door. He could move fast because long before he broke into the room, he already visualize many times, how he is going to do it. Just as he expected, a large number of zombies attracted to Chen Li Jian's group activity, leaving tens of zombies on the second floor. Some of them already in the middle of moving toward the first floor when they heard the window broke and noticed Huang Wen's existence. The nearest zombie was minutes away from Huang Wen's current position.
Now, rather than fully barricade the door, Huang Wen arranged some beds against the wall, next to the door, that would easily block the door when he pushed it.
He didn't wait for the zombies to reach him. As soon as he finished with his preparation, Huang Wen pushed his back against the farthest wall and peeked to the room on the other side and then the corridor. He saw zombies began to walk toward him, but he still had enough time. Huang Wen quickly scanned the situation inside the room on the other side. Satisfied that there were no zombies there, he charged toward the nearest zombie.
One hit, two hits, he killed it.
"Ding! You got 1 experience."
After a while, that announcement became a background noises that kept his motivation. It also added the feeling that he was in a game. Such feeling helped him feel at ease and less burdened by the tragedies around him.
Now he moved with much ease compared to his first killing. He learned the feel of his staff and how it responded to his movement. Huang Wen kept moving forward and killed two more zombies when he reached the next two rooms. He held that position for a while. His eyes kept moving, scanning the three directions around him, both of the room's entrance and the corridor in front of him. He killed another two zombies, but more zombies were closing the distance. Huang Wen wanted to push further and repeated previous tactics from the third floor, but he knew he didn't have the time. His stamina reached four at this moment, but he already had another plan.

He already knew that his first plan was too hard to pull. It required a lot of luck. He didn't worry though. He was prepared. He kicked and pushed the zombies with his staff toward their friends. He was trying to hold a bit longer. Only when he felt that he could no longer move forward without putting himself in danger he stopped.
He held his position for a while, he wanted to hold a bit more, but he was facing too many zombies now. Even with their slow movement, few of them managed to slash at his body. Fortunately, it was blocked by his made up armors.
The magazines that covered his hands and the thick text book on his chest was torn, Huang Wen covered with cold sweat. The tension was high. Huang Wen decided he couldn't hold it any longer.
He ran as fast as he could toward the end of the corridor. The zombies now in tight formation chased behind him with their slow, creepy movement.
With his back against the wall, Huang Wen started to activate the fireball skill. Somewhere in his mind, he had the knowledge. His mind was working on its own, guiding each step of the process. He could feel his body drew power from its surroundings. His hand almost automatically raised, he opened his palm and somehow the force turned into a fireball. Huang Wen wasn't just let the system worked with his mind and his body. He watched and learned. He was determined to completely mastered the skill himself, to know how it worked.
Slowly a ball of fire was formed on his opened palm. They were getting bigger and bigger. Huang Wen watched his spirit began to decrease as the fireball absorbed it.
Somewhere in his mind, he knew, he could release it any time. The more he fed this fireball with his spirit, the greater the force. He had some idea of how much strong his fireball would be, but he didn't have a clear idea of how big the damage would be.
One thing was out of his calculation, how long it took to form the final form of the fireball. Fortunately, the zombies were slow. Unfortunately, Huang Wen couldn't infuse much of his spirit into the spell. The zombies already passed the room next door and Huang Wen already infused four points of spirit into the spell.
He clenched his jaw and thought, "Two more points."
Five points of spirit....
Six points...
"Fireball !!!", with a shout Huang Wen released the spell.
A ball of fire with around four inches of diameters shot out from his palm. In a blink of eyes it hit the zombies and exploded. The force pressed Huang Wen toward the wall. For a couple of seconds, he could feel hot air pressured his body against the wall. He refused to close his eyes and determined to watch the scene in front of him.
It worked better than his imagination. The zombies at the front blasted to pieces and those behind them, were sent back, stumbling on each other. The zombies were blasted to pieces, many of them was strong enough to survive the explosion, but maimed. Huang Wen took a deep breath and charged. He still had five points of stamina and could kill another two.
He kicked one maimed zombie who was on his way. His target was the zombies who still had their limb intact. He didn't dare to push too far. At the end, he only killed one zombie before retreated to his room. He walked to the corner, sat on the floor and rest.
"How many zombies I killed just now? Twelve?"
He checked his current stat again.
"Huang Wen: Male"
"Level: 3 (10/12)″
"Class: None"
"Title: None"
"Strength: 6 (6)
Agility: 6 (6)
Vitality: 11(11)
Stamina: 0/14 (14)
Spirit: 15/15 (15)
Health: 11/11 (11)"
"Active skills : Fireball lvl. 1."
"Passive skills : 3rd eyes lvl. 1."
"Equipment : Wood Staff."
"Tsk ... from the way I see it, I killed seven using my staff, which means only three were killed by the explosion.", Huang Wen closed his eyes and tried to remember the scene before.
How many announcements he heard back then? He couldn't remember, when the fireball exploded there were several successive announcements, but he didn't pay any attention. It just the repetitive announcement about earning one point of experience.
"I guess the explosion only destroyed their body, as long as their head intact, they still alive... Perhaps I should aim a bit higher back then.", he talked to himself.
He had used fireball. Now he could do nothing but wait for his stamina to recover. Huang Wen cursed himself. He believed that he could secure this floor in one hit. He was wrong and it would be another gamble with his life on the line if he insisted to clear this floor. He looked at the bed sheet rope which hung outside the window.
He saw his stamina recovered a bit more, he decided to check the situation. Carefully he walked toward the door. He could hear the zombies scuffled outside.
"Should I wait?"
"No...", Huang Wen decided it and jumped out of the room.
He scanned fast, prepared to leap back into the room, but the nearest zombie still few steps away from him. He could kill at least one of them, before forced to run back into the room. Huang Wen wasted no time. He killed one and quickly retreated into the room.
"Not yet...", he sighed.
He hoped to get another level. He only had three3 points of stamina now, outside there were more than 10 zombies moving toward him, not counting those who were crippled by the blast.
"I'll try once more.", finally he decided.
He used his previous tactics, pushed some metal framed bed to barricade the door and wait. As soon as one of those zombies tried to break the barricade, Huang Wen swung his staff, two strokes and he killed it.
"Ding! You get one point of experience."
"You have advanced to Level 4. You have earned two points, please distribute the points!"
Huang Wen jumped victoriously, "Yes !!! I did it!"
"Two points on agility!"
With an increased of two points in agility, Huang Wen's movement now was much more coordinated. He jumped out of the window, caught the bed sheet rope and started to climb to the room above. Huang Wen didn't want to make any mistake and pulled the bed sheet rope as soon as he came into the room.
He willed it to check on his stat.
"Current stat :
"Huang Wen: Male"
"Level: 4 (0/18)″
"Class: None"
"Title: None"
"Strength: 6 (6)
Agility: 8 (8)

Spirit: 15/15 (15)
Health: 11/11 (11)"
"Active skills : Fireball lvl. 1."
"Passive skills : 3rd eyes lvl. 1."
"Equipment : Wood Staff."
Huang Wen waited until his stamina fully recovered before he climbed down again, checked the situation below, entered, killed a few zombies and climbed back to safety. More zombies walked to 2nd floor. With his improved agility, he managed to pull this trick through somewhat safely. He even managed to bring back his bag to the room on the 3rd floor in the second round.
Huang Wen did five rounds and increased two more levels, before he decided to sleep. He could feel although his stamina fully recovered, he still felt sleepy and tired. He had been killing zombies for the last six hours and he needed a good sleep.
Before he drifted into dreams, he checked his stat.
"Current stat :
"Huang Wen: Male"
"Level: 6 (7/32)″
