《Kali Yuga》Chapter 2: Level Up.

Another zombie's head popped up, after killing the second zombie, Huang Wen felt much more calmed facing the next. He took a deep breath, focused his mind, aimed and with calculated effort he struck right at the crown of that zombie.
It took two hits before the third zombie crumpled onto the floor with smashed head.
Huang Wen saw that currently there were three zombies who threatened his life. He also noticed that it took two points of his stamina to kill one zombie and currently he only had four points of stamina left, which means after another two he would not have enough stamina to kill the last one. Silently he cursed himself because he was too panicked and wasted too much stamina when he killed the first zombie (his mind unconsciously avoided the name Cao Bao).
Huang Wen didn't have much time to think because the next zombie already arrived. He calmed his mind, aimed and struck.
He didn't dare to leave his position for now, Huang Wen's didn't have much confidence on his rashly built barricades. He just hoped that by the time he finished his current opponent, he might restore some of his stamina.
It took another two hits, one zombie killed and another was on the line. Desperately Huang Wen watched his stamina lost another two points and there was no sign that he could regain the lost stamina during the fight. Not to mention that he could feel it in his body. Each time he lost another point of stamina, he grew wearier, but there was one thing that kept his spirit. It was the fact that each time he killed one, the number next to his current level increased by one. He killed four zombies already and if he guessed right, he just needed to kill one more before something happened.
He refused to give up. Once again he aimed and struck, this time his poorly built barricade started to give up. The remaining two zombies pushed back the stacked metal framed bed. Huang Wen took two steps back and strike the zombie at the same time.
One hit just one more hit. Huang Wen could feel the staff heavier now. He squeezed the last drop of his strength and hit. Another zombie down, Huang Wen helplessly watched his stamina reached 0 point and he barely able to keep a hold on to his staff.
He watched expectantly as the number reached five and as if to answer his prayer, another voice sounded inside his head, exactly right at the moment he killed the fifth zombies.
The female voice was heard within his mind, "You have advanced to Level 2, you have earned two points, please distribute the points!"
A surge of relief went through his entire body.
"2 points to stamina!", he almost screamed with all his might.
Even before he noticed that two points returned to his stamina, he already lifted his staff, aimed and struck. The last zombie manage to break, through the barricades. It barred its bloody teeth and growled. Huang Wen already beyond his fears, he took a step back and gave the final strike, killing the last zombie.
Heaving Huang Wen remembered the item that fell out from some of the zombies he previously killed. Back then he remembered how the items vanished along with the body after some time. This time he managed to clean the area from any zombie, it was just temporary, but at least now he could check those things that fell out of the zombies when they died. If his guess was right, then it could give him some advantages.

There was one little black book dropped on the floor. Quickly Huang Wen retrieved those book.
And as he picked up the little book, "The book of fireball, you could learn the spell to form and shoot a small fireball from your palm. The power will depend on how many spirit points you invest on the spell."
"At level 1, you can only cast the spell once every three days and it takes a long time for the spell to be completed. As your level of mastery improved there will be less limitation and the efficiency increase. At mastery there will be no limitation in frequency while the spirit point that's needed to complete it will be greatly reduced and you can cast the spell within split of a second."
"Once every three days? Are you kidding me?", Huang Wen felt sour within his mouth.
He pondered about that little book, he knew that in RPG there might be some limit set in how many skills you can learn, but he never knew whether he would get another chance to get such skill book. Time was ticking, he couldn't waste time by thinking too long. He could feel his stamina returned a bit. It seemed that it lost during the fighting and slowly returned when he rested.
Huang Wen stared at the door, from distant he could hear noises. He made up his mind by then. It would be suicide to leave the room, with his stamina close to zero. He began to push the beds back to its previous position, stacked the bed to block the door. He didn't rest until he used everything in that room to form sort of barricades that separate him from the zombies out there.
His stamina back to zero after all that hard work, he sat on the floor, his back rested on the wall, his eyes never leave the door, the only entrance toward his room. With the staff on his lap, he began to breathe deep and slow.
He used to meditate, ever since he learned the benefit of meditation. It helped him to calm his heart and clear his mind. He needed it more than he ever did before. Slowly but surely, his stamina started to recover.
He used his mind to find his current status.
"Huang Wen: Male"
"Level: 2 (1/8)″
"Class: None"
"Title: None"
"Strength: 6 (6)
Agility: 5 (5)
Vitality: 11(11)
Stamina: 0/13 (13)
Spirit: 15/15 (15)
Health: 11/11 (11)"
"Skills : None."
"Equipment : Wood Staff."
If he needed two points of stamina to kill one zombie, when his stamina fully recovered, at best he could kill six zombies before he needed to run and hide. With his mind cleared, Huang Wen started to assess the situation.
It needed more observation, but seeing the situation out there, there was a good chance that it happened all over the world. Even if it wasn't, with how surreal of this event was, many people wouldn't be able to react in time. He was lucky, he wasn't in public place. Most of his neighbors weren't in their room. Only few stayed in their room. He was alone in his room and heard that voice. He had enough time to process the hints that were provided and thus acted accordingly.
Even now he could hear people screamed from the other side of the corridor, from another floor and from outside the dormitory. Once those zombies killed other survivors, sooner or later they would come to find him.

He needed to secure a safe place for him to rest and restore his stamina. He couldn't use this room as that safe place. If he holed up in this room, by the time another wave came, there would be more than six zombies and he had nowhere to run after his stamina depleted. It was better if he brought the fight to another place, killed some zombies and then ran to some hidden place.
The more he thought about it, the more the feeling of dismay grew in his heart.
Huang Wen saw that his stamina reached 12. He leaped from his sitting position and moved toward the door. He began to remove the beds, tables and some other things that stacked at his door. When he saw the last of the stacked bed barricading his door, he pushed it out. Obstructing the path toward his room from the staircase, the noise attracted some zombies nearby, but Huang Wen didn't stop. He had some sort of plan in his head.
He analysed the situation briefly. Right now he was in the eastern wing of his dormitory, from his room to the end of the building there were seven rooms and as far as he could see, there were four zombies who started to move toward him from the rooms behind him.
Huang Wen moved toward his room and push more bed to block the corridor. He closed the path, separating his room and the other seven rooms from the rest of the floor. He kept moving more beds until the first zombie only three steps away from his position. He had killed six zombies before, now with his back secured, he had more confidence and less fear.
He charged forward, killed the nearest zombie and retreated a few steps back. He killed the second zombie and retreated even further into his room. By the time he killed the 4th zombie, he already inside his room, stumbling over some debris that was left there.
He saw two more zombies moved toward him. Quickly he leaped to his feet and killed them one by one. He was moving around his room to avoid them, using the scattered furniture to prevent them approached him. He didn't stop to rest though, neither did he stop to pick up the stuff that fell out of them. There were some boxes and books that definitely tempting, but Huang Wen didn't dare to waste time for those items. He ran and moved more stuff to completely blocked the entrance.
He could hear zombies pushing over his barricades, but Huang Wen didn't have any stamina left. He sat on the floor, his back rested on his newly made barricade. He tried to calm his heart, despite all the noises from the zombies destroying the barricades. He hoped by controlling his breath and calming his heart, he would restore his stamina faster.
He watched the rooms in front of him with weary eye. Suddenly he felt his heart sunk. He saw two zombies walked, out of the farthest room. With his stamina totally depleted, he could only watch them moved closer and closer. It felt like eternity. He felt like crying now, even though his parents raised him Christian, he never went to church nor pray. Now, he prayed like never before. Step by step they were getting closer and closer.
He forced himself to sit still, hoping that it would help him recovered faster.
They were getting closer....
He recovered one point of stamina.
He started to curse as the zombies getting closer while his stamina seemed to recover at a snail pace.
The zombies now about five paces away from him, Huang Wen pushed himself up and entered his room. He went as far as he could, to the corner of his room. He prayed to God that he would recover more stamina before the zombies reached him. Maybe he would get two points of stamina. He just needed to kill one more, leveled up and get two more points to kill the last one. Really he couldn't make up his mind, whether he had to pray or curse.
The zombies entered his room and he recovered another point of stamina. He bit his lips and thought hard. He waited on the corner.
When they were just three steps away from him, Huang Wen, as fast as he could, ran to the side, ducked and slipped away from their reaching hand. He could smell their stinking body, their growling and gnashing teeth. He didn't know whether he managed to pass them without any injuries. His blood was rushing through his vein. He just ran as fast as he could toward the room at the end of the corridor.
He decided if there was another zombie, he would see them by now. Since he only saw two zombies when he sat there with zero stamina, these two zombies were the last he had to deal with.
Huang Wen entered the last room and ran toward the corner of the room, where he once again sat and rested. Rushing toward the danger and slipped by within an inch of his life, was exhilarating. Huang Wen couldn't help himself, a sinister grin formed in his face.
Three points of stamina recovered.
Four points of stamina recovered.
"Now get here, you bastard...", Huang Wen stood up with his staff raised high ready to hit.
Another point of stamina recovered when the zombies reached the door.
"HYAAAAAAAHHHHH !!!!", screaming on top of his lung Huang Wen charged and viciously stroke their heads.
Still in a trance he could hear, "You have advanced to Level 3, you have earned two points, please distribute the points!"
With a smile on his face he said, "One point for stamina and one point for agility."
A moment later the female voice entered his head, "Congratulations, you survived the initial wave. For your success, we give you a present. We will award you with one passive skill which means it won't take one of your three active skill slots."
"The third eye, it was known from ancient times that the human has spiritual eyes that could discern non physical matter."
"At level 1, other than seeing spiritual being, you can also use this spiritual sight ability to learn the status of zombies and monsters whose soul have lower level than your soul, but you won't be able to read such information from a being whose soul have higher level than yourself."
