《The Contact Person》Book 1 Chapter 2: A responsibility on intergalactic level: Part 4

“Right. Sooo, what material do you need?” Roy was sure his guess couldn’t be wrong with this one. Mike was sure to answer that he needed steels, aluminums and such. And again, his expectation was betrayed.
“Metal or at least something close to metal in properties is best. But if we are desperate, then anything solid will do. Even dirt is a viable option.” Roy was metaphorically out of surprises to be. Was Mike going to answer anything in such a way which didn’t make Roy think that he wasn’t in a well written story.
“Dirt? And how would you make a working car, which should be made of metal, out of dirt?” Though Roy sounded sarcastic, he was actually considering Mike’s answer very seriously. He actually wanted to know how Mike was going to do it.
“I think this is high time to explain one of my functionality. An example should be best. See this wooden structure here?” An arrow appeared on the screen pointing to the right. Roy was sure Mike was pointing to the statue to the right.
“Yes.” Roy looked at the laughing Buddha apprehensively. The statue’s eyes gave off a blue glow and Roy could discern a faint humming sound coming from it.
“When you got it last year, it was a solid piece of wood without any decoration on it. Right now, it is housing a technology which creates a barrier invisible to naked human eye that stops any sound from coming inside or going outside. Can you take a guess how I did it?” The laughing Buddha split horizontally in the middle and slowly opened up. Roy half expected an alien jump out of the opening. When nothing happened after a minute of opening, he peeked inside a little and could see several wiring inside the statue, giving a soft blue glow.

Roy gave himself a minute to piece things together. But the barrier thing that Mike mentioned seemed something absurd, even after taking what was happening this evening into consideration. “A sound barrier? Like magic? But that's, impossible. It only exists in fictions.”
“Not magic, technology. Nothing is impossible Roy. You just need to have the right technology and material. Back to my question, how did I do it?” Roy chose to think about this later and just chose to trust whatever Mike was saying.
“I have no idea. Maybe you hollowed out the inside with a drill and put all those wires?” Truth to be told, Roy was tired of having Mike prove his every guess wrong. He just gave a half assed answer and hoped Mike would give him the actual answer.
“Let me give you a hint. I can rearrange the structure of atoms.” Instead of giving him a straight answer, Mike only gave Roy a hint. Roy suspected Mike was about to reveal something absurd, again.
“Rearranging the atoms? What, like turning iron to gold?” Roy joked light heartedly.
Mike, however, had no intention of joking, “Exactly. I remember there's a story of a man having a stone which could do exactly that. I believe it was called the philosopher's stone.”
Roy wanted to say something witty but abruptly swallowed his words. He gave that turning iron to gold reference cause he too, remembered an article on philosopher's stone he read some time back. The whole article was full of nonsense and useless speculation of where and when in history it was rumored to be seen, but it was the conclusion of the article which interested Roy the most. The author tried to theorize how could a stone have the ability of turning everything it touches to gold. In one of the theory, she stated that if the stone had the ability to rearrange the structure of atoms, it was possible to rearrange the atomic structure of everything the stone touches to gold. If Roy expanded a bit on rearranging the atomic structure idea, then...

“You transformed the status's inside wood to metal wiring, didn't you?” This time, Roy was sure he couldn’t go wrong.
And the answer from Mike agreed with him, at last. “I would have clapped my hands if I had them. Yes, you are correct. Now are you getting an idea how am I going to make the car?”
Roy pondered on the idea. If Mike could rearrange atoms, then he could turn dirt to metal and then make the needed parts out of the metal and put them together. The process might take time, but it was not impossible. However, Roy was no idiot. Years of reading story books sharpened his thought process to foresee the implication of such an ability. He perfectly understood the potential.
“Do you even know what kind of a tool you are? You are the kind people would wage war for. People would KILL to have you at their disposal. Do you realize that?” Roy tried to limit the volume of his voice, but still it was loud enough. He hoped Mike was correct about the sound barrier thing. There was a saying that even walls have ears.
“I don't. I am just a tool. A very secure tool, yes, but a tool nonetheless. I do not have emotions. It is entirely up to you how you want to operate. If you want to announce my presence to earth, by all means go ahead and do it. It you want to operate in secrecy until earth is tolerant enough to accept the fact that they are not alone in this vast universe, fine by me.” The answer from Mike only managed to make Roy break out in a cold sweat.
“What if someone finds out and tries to, I dunno, KILL me?” Roy was half ready to throw Mike away and be done with it. Only the temptation of having a psychic ability kept him from doing so.
“If it helps ease your mind, know that after we merge, you can't be poisoned, drugged, contaminated with a disease, killed, or even restrained. With nothing but me at your disposal, you can get out of every single situation I mentioned. If you are incapacitated somehow and can't direct me on how to get out of a situation, I am HARDWIRED, to use the most lethal force I have in my disposal. And trust me, when I say lethal, I mean very, VERY lethal. Like not leaving behind a single trace lethal. There are several counter measures installed in me so that others just can't simply take me away from you on a whim. And after I unlock your potential, you will become an even stronger force to be reckoned with.” The little speech from Mike actually managed to calm Roy a lot. Mike waited a minute for Roy to relax, then continued in a soft voice, “I should quote one line commander Rohu always said to me, that the title ‘Contact Person’, is NOT, for show.”

8 107Valor and Violence
Valor and Violence is a series of short stories following different, yet all equally colourful, characters set in the same world. Birth of a Legend, the first short, follows Captain Erskine Erwell, a newly promoted Captain in the Calandorian Royal Navy, charged with protecting his people from all who would do them harm. Great news for the Calandorian citizens, bad news for the Skjar reavers that ravage the shores in search of slaves. But when a small reaver fleet slips the net and escapes to the southern jungles of Marduk, Erwell must fight a war on two fronts; one against the raiders, and a far more difficult war against the hostile landscape. If he can't find allies in this strange land, he may end up being the one in need of saving. The first part of the second short story will be uploaded on Saturday, the 11th of June, following Ferez Ahud, an aspiring young battlemage charged with the unsavoury job of 'terminating' a rogue member of his college. But how this nobody of a mage became a fugitive remains a mystery, and when the answer is discovered, the tables are turned and the hunter becomes the prey. I'll be uploading chapters of more in-universe short stories each week or as close to, work permitting. Content Guidelines: course language and violence

But when an object of great and malevolent power promises to make good on all the promises the mages broke to him Mar is thrust into the world of magic. Mar will find that fate had something more than a life confined to the library planned for him after all. Authors Notes: I consider this to be a comming-of-age Sword and Sorcery story based mostly on the style of classic western fantasies. So if that's your thing then I encourage you to take a peek. Something I want to mention though is that the main character starts of pretty wimpy, and that might not be your thing. That being said, if you stick with him he's got a long way to grow. Also, while this version of the story is meant to be fully readable, more dicerning readers may want to wait until I move out of rough draft phase. There may be some inconsistancies with character and plot while I am still in the rough draft phase. I'm sorry for this, but this is my first web novel and from what I've read the best way to get a good novel out is to write write write, and then edit ruthlessly after you're finished with the book, so that's the plan I'm going to follow. Again, this is a rough draft. Everything you are reading is subject to change, including the name, title, and cover photo. This may no longer be the case once I've decided I know where this fiction is going and I have a reasonable understanding of the characters and their behavior. You're reading what comes off my keyboard as it's made, with very limited editing. There will be mistakes in the text. I do a quick spell check to take out the worst of the errors, but there will be some I miss. You can point them out in the comments if they are particularly confusing or glaring and I will try to fix them, however I am not overly concerned about minor errors as this is not the final draft by any means.
8 141Star wars: Selfish virtue.
''He's broken, are you sure this is a good idea?'' ''It's gonna be alright, it'll become a different timeline. I will supply the power for it myself, won't cost you anything and you can watch it play out with me.'' ''If you're sure dear, the last time we did this it didn't turn out so good for the world though.'' ''It's gonna be fine! ...Probably.'' A man yanked out of our world is put into another one on the whims of beings out of his comprehension or knowledge. Journey with him as he tries for the things that were ever out of his reach in his last life, enjoyment, fulfillment, happiness... and maybe even love. This is my first time writing anything. I'll be taking it as a learning experience, though obviously, I'd hope that people enjoy it. When you find something to criticize, and you will. I at least hope you'll word it in a constructive way so I could remedy and/or learn from it. Enjoy.
