《Blinker》Chapter 8: A new town

It’s late in the afternoon and I finally made it to the town of Arton. I was able to get in without any troubles. It looked like one of those late 17th century European towns from hundreds of years ago. It had a nice atmosphere and people were bustling about their daily lives.
“Excuse me sir? Would you happen to know where the Adventurer’s guild is located?” I asked guard that was walking by.
He gave me a suspicious look but he gave me the directions and I thanked and went on my way.
Soon I came across a large building that was about three stories tall. I was kind of intimidated, seeing all these tough looking characters with fancy looking armor and weapons going in and out of the building while I looked pretty out of place.
A thin, shabby looking kid holding a spear and an egg. But I gathered my courage and entered the building.
The first floor was like a busy restaurant, adventurers were ordering, laughing and having a good time. There was a pretty lady behind the bar counter and I went up to her.
Most of the people in here ignored me but I got a couple of strange looks and I ignored them.
“Excuse me miss, is there a person named Renton here?”
Suddenly all the bustling noise and the good atmosphere disappeared.
‘Shit… did Barnabas trick me?’
The pretty girl looked up and me…. Stunned.
“I’m sorry, but the guild master is currently unavailable.”
“Um, I have a letter for him, could you give it to him?” I said as I took out the letter that Barnabas gave me and handed it to her.
“Of course, I will be right back.”
Roughly five minutes later the pretty lady came back with a middle aged man that looked to be around his mid-forties. He was well muscled and had a pretty masculine beard if you asked me.

“Are you Rane kid?” He asked.
“Y-yes sir.” I replied timidly. He was bigger close up and I was a bit intimidated by his size.
“Follow me kid.”
I obediently followed behind him and the adventurers behind us started whispering on what was going on.
Renton led me all the way to the third floor and we came to a room with a desk and a few chairs.
He gestured for me to sit and I sat on the chair directly across from his desk.
“So… from this letter that Barnabas wrote to me, you have amnesia?”
“Um… yes sir.”
“He also tells me that you discovered a dungeon.”
“Yes sir.”
“Why don’t you tell me what happened.”
And so I went over the tale of what happened since I woke up and couldn’t remember anything. But of course, I once again left out the parts of where I obtained [Blink] and the Dungeon master sending notes to me.
“Hmm… okay kid, if what you’re saying is true then you deserve a reward for discovering a new dungeon. Hold on, I’m gonna get your reward.”
A few moments later he came to me with a small brown bag about the size of two adult fists and threw it on the table.
“Here ya go. 100 silver fens. That should be enough to keep you alive for several months. Now if you don’t have anything else,
then you can leave.”
“Wait, but I don’t know anything about this town. Also, how do I become an adventurer?”
Being adventurer seemed like the best option to me right now and because Barnabas recommended me to Renton, my instinct told me that I can trust him.
“Well, you see kid. You’re too young to be an adventurer, and you don’t even have a class yet. How old are you?”

“I don’t’ know… I have amnesia. And what’s a class?”
“Sigh… See? Classes are basically jobs. My class for example, is Knight and my level in that class is 74. There are many classes
ranging from mages, archers and rogues, but those are just the basics.”
“Huh? Then what’s the difference between your class level and your personal level?”
“Your personal level is exactly that, it doesn’t interfere with your class level. It just basically tells you your own stats. Your class level is how proficient you are in your class and what skills you can learn from it and what other requirements you need to rank up to an even stronger class.”
“Then how do I get a class?” I asked.
“There are various places you can go to. You can go to the local lord and ask one of his knights to be apprenticed to them and become their squire. Then you will get the squire class and after you reach level 100 in that you can rank up to become a knight.
To become a rogue you have to go to the Rogue Guild and be apprenticed to one of the rogues there and you’ll start off as a
thief.”
“What if I want to become a mage?”
“Ha! Finding a mage in this town is extremely unlikely. We only have on mage in this town and that old man killed most of his apprentices from his experiments that he does in his gods forsaken lab of his.”
Well that crushed my dreams of being a mage.
“Are there certain benefits of being in a class? Can I have more than one class?”
“Of course there are benefits of being in a class, but that differs from each class. A rogue for example, has more speed and dexterity, while a mage has more mana and intelligence.
You can have more than one class but they are called subclasses. You can only have on main class but unlimited subclasses.
Most people don’t even have a subclass because of the strict requirements from their main class. A main class requires too much attention, so most people usually don’t have subclasses.
It’s getting late kid, you can stay here in the guild for tonight and tomorrow I’ll have Lucy take care of you but after that you’re on your own.”
“Who’s Lucy?”
“That lass from before.”
With that the Renton told Lucy to take me to my room and later I had my dinner downstairs on the first floor. Lucy sat next to me and had dinner with me and we had a nice chat.
I told her about my story and she actually cried for me, which made me feel a bit bad. Lucy was a very sweet girl that was 19 years old that started working for the guild as a receptionist and bar maid two years ago.
We had a nice meal together but a lot of guys came and flirt with Lucy and Lucy playfully flirted back and a couple of guys gave
me envious looks for being able to eat with her.
Lucy was very attractive. Long brunette hair and an hour glass shaped body that could make you drool.
After dinner I went up to my room and went to bed.

8 101It's Hard to be a Hero in a Parallel World
A hero is transported from the real world into a parallel world similar to the video game he's been obsessed with for the past few weeks. The problem is, this game is way too difficult, especially for a nerdy gamer boy to survive. He decides to leave the hero-duty to someone who is actually competent while he looks for a way home. He hopes his knowledge of the game will help him stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, as one would imagine, the normal events of a game would change drastically when the main character is nowhere to be found. Read as the unlikely hero gets into trouble with his new companions, while trying to survive life in this parallel world. This is an original story that takes inspiration from and pokes fun at many novels, video games, anime, and the stereotypes and tropes that appear in those media.
8 186Gaming on a MUD is difficult.
This is a story based on my characters background and journal that I played on a mud (Multi User Dungeon) over the course of several years. Dozens of people play a text based command line game at the same time. I figured I'd try to turn in into a story to see if anyone found it interesting. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think. This is my first time so not very experienced. It is a story about how going into a multi player game expecting a typical RPG experience turns into something else because other players are involved.
