《Unraveling Secrets》Chapter 55: Unknown Power

The moment Kan opened his eyes, Cole felt intense pressure weighing down on him. Cole broke out in cold sweat. He was afraid, even terrified of what he was feeling. His entire body was urging him to run away and get out of here immediately, but he couldn’t move. Even his heart felt like it had stopped beating.
“Get your dirty paw off me, you filthy beast.”
This sentence was said to the bear and the bear immediately did as it was commanded. Even though it was simple sentence, to the bear it had felt like a death sentence. If he hadn’t done what he was told to do, it felt like it would die that instant.
Kan stood up and looked at the bear. The Bone Bear felt even more pressure than what Cole felt. He was right in front of Kan and Kan was also directing all the pressure towards it. It was scared. Having lived in this forest for so long, it had felt this kind of fear before. It was the same kind of fear it felt when it encountered monsters stronger than itself. These monsters looked down on the Bone Bear and wouldn’t even bother to kill it, and the Bone Bear knew that. No matter how much it struggled against these monsters, it had no chance of winning at all.
Kan was emitting that exact same kind of pressure. The bear felt like an ant in front of Kan. It’s animal instincts were telling it to run away, and it did. It didn’t stay any longer to find out what would happened.
The bear began running at its fastest speed. It didn’t want to stay anywhere close to Kan. Without any hesitation, all the Bone Bear’s armor shot off of its body. The armor on a Bone Bear’s body was very important to a Bone Bear, and in any circumstances it would never abandon it’s armor. A Bone Bear’s armor would take years and years to grow, and is what allows it to survive in the wild. But this Bone Bear didn’t hesitate at all to shed its armor to gain just a little more speed. That was how much it feared Kan at the moment.
Kan and Cole stared at how fast the Bone Bear ran away. It was running at an incredible speed, and was gone from their view in a matter of seconds. Neither of them had the energy to chase after the Bone Bear.
Cole stared at Kan in shocked. Everything that just happened, occurred so fast that Cole still couldn’t process it. Cole contemplated whether this naked young boy in front of him was the same happy go lucky boy that came over almost everyday to train. The same boy that came over to play just because Cole looked lonely or even the same boy that would ask him to shower together, so they can become friends.

They were different, the Kan that he knew and the Kan standing in front of him. Looking deep into the eyes of the little boy in front of him, Cole could see so many deep dark emotions. Those were the eyes of someone who had been through hell and back. They were not the eyes a 7 year old boy should have.
Cole had seen these types of eyes before. Cole could only think of one person who has the same eyes as this Kan. This man had been betrayed, sacrificed his life to protect his family, seen his friends and family disappear, given up his ideals, and even abandoned his emotions.
“Who...who are you?”
Cole could only meekly asked who this person was. This wasn’t the Kan he knew. But Kan didn’t reply back. All he did was stand there, but then he smiled.
“It’s me Big Brother.”
Cole was shocked. The instant Kan smiled, his entire aura changed. None of that intense pressure was left and Kan was back to normal. No longer under pressure, Cole was finally able to relax all his muscles and breathe again. But as soon as he relaxed himself, his vision started turning blurry and then he fell unconscious.
Cole was about to fall to the ground but Kan went up and supported him.
“Thank you Big Sister.”
Over the years, Kan had suspected Cole of knowing Nicole, but today he finally realized that Cole was Nicole. Today he had concrete evidence that they were the same person. When he had woken up and scared the bear away, Cole was standing across from them. He had white hair and red eyes, just like how he remembered Nicole from the eighth set of memories.
Looking at Nicole’s tattered clothing and injuries, Kan was grateful. Kan hadn’t believed it when the voice within him had told him that she had abandoned him. For the past 2 years they had spent a lot of time together, so Kan knew that, although she was strict and ruthless when training, she was also caring.
Kan picked Nicole up and began carrying her like a princess. It was easy for Kan to carry Nicole because she was slim and light, while he was also a combat locksmith. He unlocked 2% and began running back towards the village.
Although the battle was over, he still needed to take Nicole to get her injuries treated. Through her tattered clothing, Kan could see two gaping holes on Nicole’s body bleeding. She also had various claw marks all over her body but these were not as severe as the two bleeding holes. Besides getting Nicole treated, he needed to also get treated for his wounds. Jane’s necklace had helped him through the worst of the injuries, but his body and organs were still damaged.

……
The first to arrive at the alarm tower was Claire. She immediately scanned the area for any signs of Kan or Cole but didn’t sense anything. She grew more anxious because she couldn’t find them. Clive soon arrived at the location with Jane in his arms.
“Are they here Claire.”
“No, I don’t sense them.”
Hearing this, Jane and Clive also grew more anxious. Clive began to think up of places Kan could possibly be at, but his train of thought was interrupted.
All three of them felt an intense pressure overcome them. Clive and Claire braced themselves against this pressure and was able to keep their footing. Jane on the other hand couldn’t, her knees gave out and she fell on her butt. Both Clive and Claire were stronger and had experienced more dangers in their lives, so they could stand up against this pressure, but Jane couldn’t. They all stood still, staring into the forest where the pressure was coming from.
‘Is that Bal Vo?’
Claire began to question whether this aura had come from the dragon Bal Vo. When she had gone to Bal Go’s mountain range, Bal Vo had emitted pressure just as strong as this. Claire immediately scrapped the idea of it being Bal Vo because it would never leave it’s mountain range.
“Clive be careful. This type of pressure is as strong as the dragon Bal Vo.”
Hearing his wife’s comment, Clive immediately prepared for any unforeseen circumstances. He stood in front of Jane and unlocked 40% of his whole body. The pressure on Jane lessened and she was finally able to breathe. She was terrified of what she had just felt and was even more worried about Kan.
All three of them had their own thoughts about this pressure but after a few seconds passed, the pressure disappeared. It had disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared.
“Clive i’m going to go check out where the pressure came from.”
“No, you stay here with Jane and i’ll go check it out.”
“That’s reckless Clive. I can fly so it’ll be easier for me to escape.”
“No. What if the enemy is faster than you? What will you do then? My body is sturdier so I will go.”
“No, you can’t go Clive. You’re always endangering your life. I can’t let you do that again. I’m just going to scout out the area, so it should be fine.”
“No, Claire. Your life is too important to be put in danger. I can’t let you risk your life like that. What if you die, what will I tell your grandfather, what will I tell the mayor, and what would I have to tell Kan. Kan needs a mother to return home too, so stay here and i’ll go check out where the pressure came from.”
“It doesn’t matter how important my life is. What if you die Clive? There has been so many times you were on the brink of death. Do you know how I felt then. I was devastated. Kan would also be devastated if you died. He needs a father to come back to.”
Clive and Claire continued to argue on who would go into the forest. They needed to go into the forest to check if Kan was there and to see what type of monster would emit that kind of pressure. They wouldn’t let the other person go into the forest, because there was a high chance of the monster in the forest being dangerous. Going into the forest would mean that they had a high chance of dying. Neither of them wanted each other to sacrifice their lives.
Jane could only watch as they kept on arguing. She was slightly jealous of their relationship. The two of them loved each other so much that they were willing to sacrifice their lives for each other.
Jane kept her attention on the forest. For some reason she had a feeling that someone was coming towards them. And she was correct. A naked young boy came out of the forest with a woman in his arms.
“Kan!!”

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

The Forgotten One
Hey there everbody. This will be my second upload to Roll 20. Unfortunately I wasn't able to continue my previous one due to life and what not but I'm now back and have a some what new idea I've been kicking around for years. We'll see if i head back to my other fiction due to having things calming down. And like always I'm open to constructive critisims. Any way on to the synopsis. The world as we know it is gone. Torn from everyone due to two major things. First and foremost a biologica lweapon that no one wanted to take credit for after it was released and couldn't be stopped (a zombie virus of sorts) and the way that many nations thought to stop it from spreading was to destory everything they could ofcourse that didn't include them selves. So there the world was in a mexican standoff with hundreds of countries with hundreds of nuclear weapons just dareing one another to make the first move. Once again no one knew who started it but it didn't matter once it started the world was doomed. In an attempt to save people some scientists began working on a way to cryogenically frezze people so they could surive the on coming armegedon. The problem was before they could begin testing it on humnas the nukes began launching. In a bid to save them selves a family gave their youngest son to the scientists as a test subject. He had already been infected by the virus weeks before the nukes were being threatened and still retained his humanitiy. After being betrayed by his family after telling them of his ability to stay him self and a few things the bio weapon had changed in him physically he was sedated with enough drugs to kill a whole pride of elephants and forced to take part in the experiment. The last thing he remembers was watching his world close around him (his cryo pod) and his family's face of sadness but also hope in the fact that them betraying him may give them a chance to live. This is a fan fiction in which many aspects of one of my favorite games will be quiet prevelent. It will be obvious to those who have played it but for those who may not the game i'm going to be baseing some of the things in this novel is called Prototype. And no I do not own the rights to the cover. If the creater would like for me to pull it down please messege me.

War Beast
The future is savage. Jenny Summer is a news reporter who hates her job. One day, an accident sends her through a time portal, straight into the distant future. A future of warring Beastmen tribes, deadly monsters, and magic from beyond the imagination. When the savage world is full of many threats, how will the average modern-day girl survive? Author's Note: This is a rewrite of my fiction with the original title. Instead of changing my chapters in my other draft, I made a copy with a different beginning and a few new chapters. The beginning will move straight to the fantasy world like most Isekai light novels. As usual, each chapter will go between 500 and 2,000 words. I deleted the other draft since this draft will be my focus. Enjoy and let me know what you think of this new draft. There may also be grammar and spelling errors too. This series is still in development.
