《Unraveling Secrets》Chapter 32: Again and Again(Part 2)

Kan once again appeared in these memories but this time he was in the backyard of his house. “Kan” and his parents were all planting vegetables and fruits or harvesting them. Kan once again didn’t stay around to listen to their conversation. He immediately left for the village plaza.
In the last set of memories he could not finish hearing about that one conversation so this time he had decided to hear the conversation out.
Kan arrived at the plaza in a few minutes and floated around looking for those two men. After searching for a while he once again heard there conversation. Their conversation was going exactly the same as in the other memories. Kan observed and saw that they had the same expressions and tone as the last set of memories and it was almost identical. It was like he was watching the exact same scene as the ones in the 4th set of memories. Kan found this extremely creepy and weird.
‘Why is this exactly the same but some things aren’t. Going by this logic, every set of memories should be exactly the same but why are there differences.’
Kan stopped thinking about the reasons why and instead listened to the conversation. The conversation was reaching the point where it last stopped and Kan listened intently to figure out the events that had occured.
As Kan was listening, thunder sounded out throughout the village and lighting flashed down off in the distance. The conversation had stopped at the exact same point as last time and Kan couldn’t learn anything new from it. All the alarm bells rang once again like all those other times.
“GIVE US CLAIRE RENNER OR DIE.”
The demands from the intruders once again echoed throughout the village. Kan had expected it to be the fishmen or the men in black but he was surprised at what he saw. The ones demanding Claire were beastmen. There were tigermen, lionmen, horsemen, giraffemen, monkymen, and sorts of other beastmen.

‘What kind of secrets does Mommy have.’
The first 2 memories were the blacked clothed men, the 3rd memories were unknown, the 4th memories were fishmen, and these memories were the beastmen. Kan was surprised because so many races were after his mother.
The beastmen started to attack the villagers and once again Claire and Clive were nowhere to be seen. Kan had become desentized to seeing the villagers be killed but this time he was still horrified. The other times the villagers had just been killed and over time Kan had come to accept that this was not real in his world. The villagers had already died and these were just memories but even he could not handle the brutality of the beastmen.
Every villager the beastmen killed were eaten. If an arm was ripped off the beastmen would eat it and not a piece of the body would be left behind. Kan had to watch as friends were torn apart and eaten. He had even seen a person get pulled in half to the point where the upper part was separate from the bottom. The organs spilled all over the ground and the beastmen gathered and ate it.
Kan could only watched terrified with tears dripping down his face. Eventually a flash of light erased the scene and he was once again in complete darkness.
‘Maybe...maybe there are things that will always happen. The lighting, alarms, the attack on the villagers, and the end of that conversation will always happen. Maybe I can’t change anything at all. Are all my efforts futile?’
Kan felt depressed. He knew that some things will never change and started feeling that he would never be able to change it. He wasn’t confident that he could change it in his world. Kan sat there in the darkness contemplating on what to do. He felt like giving up because even if he did figure something out, it probably wouldn’t be able to change the inevitable outcome of everyone dying.

‘I...I shouldn’t give up yet. There is a chance. No matter how small it is, I have to fight for this chance.’
Kan didn’t know if his actions would change anything at all but he still wanted to try. He wanted to find the perfect solution or the irritating feeling in his body would never go away. Kan calmed down and prepared to go into the memories once again.
‘I’m ready. Please send me into the memories Darkness.’
……
“Can I go to the plaza Daddy? I want to see the festival and the people from the capital. Please.”
“Sure Kan. We have been training for quite a while so go ahead and take a break.”
“Thanks Daddy.”
“Stay safe, ok.”
“Yeah i’ll be back later Mommy,”
Kan watched as “Kan” ran towards the plaza. This was different from anything Kan had seen before. All the previous times “Kan” had always been with either Clive or Claire but this time he was on his own. Kan was surprised at what “Kan” was doing and what happened next surprised him even more.
“I don’t know who you are but I have a feeling that I must say this. A week ago Jerry had his arm eaten on Monday and today is also Monday. This happens on the 3rd month of spring so the beginning of March. All I know is that a tragedy is about to happen so I am going to try and get everyone to evacuate by blowing a part of the village up.”
Kan was surprised at “Kan’s” words. It seemed like he knew what was about to happen but from what Kan could see was that “Kan’s” knowledge of the events wasn’t too clear. He only knew bits and pieces about what is about to happen.
Kan followed “Kan” towards an empty house and in this house was boxes of black powder. This house was packed with gunpowder. “Kan” began open the boxes and pouring all of it on the ground and now in the middle of the room was a large pile of gunpowder. “Kan” began chanting and magic circles appeared around the gunpowder. The gunpowder started to compress down into a small ball of gunpowder. “Kan” was locking the air around the gunpowder to compress it into a small ball.
“Kan” then set a fire under the ball of gunpowder but locked the flames away from the gunpowder. “Kan” immediately ran out of the building and the lock on the flame slowly released itself. Kan floated out with “Kan” even though he wouldn’t be affected by the explosion. Before the explosion could happen, the lighting struck and the alarms went off.
“GIVE US CLAIRE RENNER OR DIE.”
The intruders announced their demands and the explosion finally went off but it was too late. The intruders attacking this time were monster tamers and the monsters were temporarily spooked by the explosion but they recovered instantly and started attacking the villagers. Mistaking the explosion for a challenge from another monster all the other monsters became even more agitated and vicious in their attacks.
“I’m too late.”
Kan watched as “Kan” began running away. He ran back towards their home and Claire and Clive were waiting in the front for “Kan”.
“Are you ok Kan.”
“Did anything happen to you.”
“I’m sorry. I couldn’t do anything.”
Both Claire and Clive stared at Kan with confusion but considering the situation, they didn’t ask him anything. Like the first set of memories, Claire grabbed Kan and ran while Clive ran towards the village plaza to fight. Kan watched as a familiar scene played out.
Eventually a flash of light occured and Kan was in the darkness again.
