Author's Note: This is the last of the pre-written chapters, so after this it will take time for me to release chapters. At a min (unless things change), I should be releasing a chapter a day.

Please leave comments about what you like (or dislike) about each chapter. It'll help me to get a feel about what I should tweak, though I do have an ending in mind so nothing major will change (unless my story just overall sucks :P lol). Seeing the number of viewers increasing, I feel more confident that this story is being received well.

Thank you again!

Going from hiding in a cellar to hiding inside a town, was something the girl had a hard time grasping. All she remembered was hiding in the darkness listening to the screams, when a bright light suddenly pierced the darkness. A voiced called out to her, and sounded like the Lord Grace. Tears streamed down her face, as she was happy to no longer in the dark or by herself. When she first saw him, a halo seemed to surround him as he tried to reassure her. She tried to talk, but her voice seemed to have left her and so she wasn’t able to answer his questions. When he asked her name, she wasn’t able to answer not only because of her lack of voice, but also because she didn’t know. The last thing she remembered were people helping her into the cellar, and hiding in the dark listening to the screams. Now she was inside of the town, waiting for her savior who left to lead away the Daemonises.

Talking to them, she found out that they were running away from the beasts, which had attacked their own village. Her savior turned out to be a boy a year or two older, than her. What surprised her most were the colors of his eyes. The black and red were initially scary, and she was slightly frightened but after he took care of her she was no longer frightened. When they reached the farmer, and he told them to leave him behind, she was scared for what would happen to him. Seeing his determination, she knew that they had to go. Most likely, they would only get in his way and impede his ability to fight off the creatures. Hitting the rear of Malera’s, the girl’s, horse she tried to tell him that he needed to come back to them safely.

They managed to arrive at the town, safely, and headed to the guard tower on top of the gate. They saw that there were soldiers posted at the front of the gate, and on the top. This let them know that the town had some means of keeping them safe. They needed to find whoever was in charge and let them know what the situation was.

“We need to talk to whoever’s in charge, of this town’s security!!” Malera, the girl, said to one of the soldier in the guard tower. Malera looked to be in distress, probably worried about Kendrolgo, her savior, and his safety. She was also worried about Kendrolgo, because during their short time she had felt a strong bond. She didn’t know how he felt, but, regardless, of what he thought of her, she was going to stay loyal to him, especially since he saved her life.

An older soldier came up to them, after they asked for someone to talk to. “What do you girls want?” He demanded of them.

“My friend is out there fighting off a large number of Daemonis!!” Malera cried out, to the man.

“Daemonis? Where have you seen Daemonis?” The man asked. He didn’t look like he believed them.

“Our village was attacked by them, and we had to flee. We headed over to the nearest outpost, when we saw that it had been destroyed!” Malera pointed to her, and said, “She was the last survivor of the outpost. Before we got to the town, my friend told us to come here so that he could face the monsters by himself! We need to help him!”

“How is a boy supposed to defeat a horde of Daemonis, by himself?” The older soldier asked her, the disbelief audible in his voice. Convincing this man was going to be really tough.

“The girl is right.” A voiced said behind them.

Turning around, they looked behind them and saw two Ladies of Grace. “Lady Jamelia, and Lady Amela!” Malera shouted out to the two Ladies. The girl remembered Malera telling her that they were being accompanied by two Ladies of Grace, before they met her.

One of the Ladies laid her hand on top of Malera, when she got closer. “Are you okay, my child?” one of the Ladies asked her, in a soothing voice. It was really difficult to know what they were really thinking, due to the masks on their face.

“We have to save Kendrolgo!! He’s out there fighting those monsters!” Malera pleaded to the Ladies. “He protected us the entire way, and even saved this girl at the outpost.” Malera commented in a whimper. She was already crying and her lip was trembling, as she tried to talk. The scene was heart wrenching to watch, because almost everyone was thinking the same thing.

“I’m sorry, but we didn’t see him as we approached the town. There were some lingering Daemonises in the woods, and coming up to the town we saw signs of a fight. Looking at the piles of dust and number of statues, we figured that it had to be the work of the boy. The tracks, of a large number of Daemonises, were going into the woods away from the town. We came here first to check if you had come into the town. Looking at the number of creatures that followed after the boy I don’t think that he could have survived.” The lady tried to comfort Malera, while giving her a dose of reality. This was a logical conclusion anyone would have come to, especially considering what was chasing after Kendrolgo.

Listening to what they were saying, she didn’t know how to react to the information. The thought of Kendrolgo dying to protect her was saddening. A part of her couldn’t accept that he had died, but her mind was trying to tell her that this was indeed the case.

“Amela, the girls and I will stay here. I want you to try looking for the boy, and see if he was somehow able to escape.” The Lady called Jamelia told the other Lady. Lady Amela looking at the girl, and Malera, and after making some hand gestures, she left to guard tower.

Lady Jamelia stood watching the other Lady, and then said to the other soldier, “As you have just heard, there is an increase level of activity from the Daemonises. I have also seen the outpost, and can support what this girl has said. You will need to increase the number of guards, in case you are attacked. I must take this girl to the temple, so we will not be able to assist you. I will tell my sisters, at the temple, what is going on in this area and hopefully you will receive reinforcement, if the Lords willing.”

“Yes, my Lady. I’ll alert the other towns and villages of the situation, and I’ll make sure, personally, that we have everyone on high alert.”

Nodding her head, in approval, the Lady motioned for the two of them to leave the guard house. “We’ll be staying at the local Temple, until Lady Amela returns.” She informed them. Malera and Lady Jamelia began to walk away, though they turned around when she wasn’t following after them.

“What’s wrong? We need to go with Lady Jamelia.” Malera told her. Malera tried to reach her arm out, and guide her towards the direction that Lady Jamelia was heading but she pulled her arm away.

Shaking her head, she made motions that she wasn’t going with them and that she was going to wait for Kendrolgo. She then headed to the entrance to the town, and sat down. Malera just stood there staring at her, bewildered.

Malera didn’t understand what that girl was thinking. She didn’t know if she should try to stay, getting her to come with her, or just follow after the Lady. Finally giving into the logical choice, she ran towards Lady Jamelia in order to catch up with her. She had just met that girl, so she didn’t really feel anything just leaving her there. The way that the soldiers acted, she felt that it was likely that Kendrolgo had died fighting all those Daemonises. Her heart ached for the guy she had developed feelings for, but now she needed to focus on her future. The two Ladies had told both her and her parents that she was a suitable candidate, to becoming a lady and so this was not a chance she wanted to miss. Getting a chance to become a Lady of Grace was something not available to everyone.

After following the lady for a bit, they reached a fenced off area. The fence was immensely tall and strong, likely even a Daemonis would have difficulty in breaking through that fence. In the center of that fenced of area was a large rectangular cuboid structure, which towered above all the others. The entire structure was pure white, and without any blemishes. Surrounding this structure were smaller buildings, which looked like an inns, stores, and barns. Between that and the fence were statures of Ladies encircling the structure, vigilantly standing guard against the Darkness in order to protect the Light. Seeing all of this, Malera had a difficult time comprehending everything.
