《In a new world, so lets go it alone!》chapter- 6 kebabs

I wake up notably less sore, and the headache is gone. I grab my last bits of jerky and wolf it down, along with as much water as I can get from the stream. With my head being clearer than before, I go over what I need to do, skin and butcher the massive amount of mice, make a bag with the leathers to carry all my stuff, make a fire pit, and apply my stat points. Let's start with the stats first.

After pushing up my str, and agi to ten, I put one in everything but will, will only raise mental debuff, so it’s pretty useless right now. But suddenly I see a plus in the upper right corner of my vision. After focusing on it a lot of pop ups appeared, obviously, this was a log of all the popups from when I was unconscious. Almost all of them were the same you gained two xp, or this skill/spell has leveled. But one caught my attention

Rodent slayer? Maybe I should start sculpting, I already have the carving skill, and carving is like mini sculpting, Nah! Sounds boring. On another note, I can now add an official name, but I don’t think I should use my old name, but what should I name myself? I'll have to think about this for a while. But now that I've finished with my skills and stats, I now have to start skinning a mountain of rodents.

--- 2 hours later ---

I HAVE to take a break. Not by choice mind you, but my knife finally gave out, she lasted through quite an amount of corpses, but it was meant for constant care, so the most I could do was sharpen it with a rock, which I did, but now it has chipped a few times, and is almost unusable. So I walk to a nearby tree and stick it in as deep as I could, never to be pulled again. But what to use now? Ba! Who am I kidding! The obvious answer is to make one with flint! I do have the necessary skills so no problem.

---- 5 hours later ----

There's a problem! How do I put my newly made knife blade to a handle? I can’t wedge it like the hatchet could, so how?

In the end, i decided to do exactly what I just said I couldn’t do and wedge it. I didn’t think I could because it wouldn’t last long without being unwedged if I stuck it in like the hatchet. But then I realized, if I wedge one side in completely then it should work fine, so after making an appropriately sized stick I wedge it. For those who can’t imagine it yet, it looks like this

[knife blade] {stick}

After looking at it again, it looks like a comb with a handle in shape. In the end, though it identified as this

Crude flint knife?

A knife-like item that will serve as a one sided knife for most purposes.

2-3 damage

-Low quality

Not good as a weapon, but then again I'm not using it as a weapon now am I? So I get back to skinning until I get hungry. Then I decide to eat, sadly I don’t have any jerky left, so mincemeat it is, you see I piled the meat on some leaves and had enough deboned meat to last me over a week, and I haven’t even finished skinning them all yet. But I can’t just eat it raw now can I? Well, I could eat it raw, but I would rather not risk getting sick. So I need to dig a fire pit. Grabbing the knife in the tree, breaking it out even though I was planning to never again, I use it as a trowel to dig a fire pit, of course after digging a two inch pit I stick the knife back into the tree, and place stones in a circle around the pit, next I put some grass, leaves, and small twigs Along with some of the bark I got from hollowing out a tree into the pit, next I once again grab the knife in the tree, and use it and my flint hatchet to start a fire, takes a few times to get it right though, next I grab a few bigger wood chunks from the firewood pile I have, and put the knife back in the tree.

Grabbing some sticks I make three makeshift shish kebabs and using two sticks that fork near the end as ground posts, I spit roast the kebabs. And soon they are fully cooked

Skill gained! cooking C Beginner 1 (0.00%)

Yay for cooking! It even came with an identify food skill.

Bland mice kebab

A not evenly cooked, unseasoned kebab made from mice meat there are too many flaws to count but was roasted in what was not THE most primitive way, and was cooked to an extent that it won't kill you

-horrible quality!

Now that just hurts. I take a bite and have to say the description was right, it tasted horrible, or more accurately it tasted like nothing. And nothing does not taste good. I quickly shove the rest down my food hole, and get up, and finish my skinning, I then set them down the fur down to sun dry. Next on my list of to do is to find a way to preserve these meats, I don’t have cold, nor salt, so smoke? In the morning though, smoking takes a while, like that's gonna be a day in of itself.

So I do some med, no not the drugz, meditation. Don’t do drugz kids, unless your brain is fully developed, and it’s weed, I pick up a weed from the ground and sniff it. No not that weed. In case you can’t guess I'm a dicking around, but it’s med (not drugz) time. And I do so until sleep time. But first, I need to put out the fire. I pour some water bottles on it until the fire stops, then I kick around the ash, and half burnt wood. (Smokey says only you can stop forest fires). Then I sleep.

As the sun goes up, I get up and out of my sleeping bag, and change into my waking bag (clothes). And… some of the mice meat is gone, it seems some animal ate the meat, got full and left. I make a shish kebab and eat it. Then I start smoking the meat. I do so by sticking the meat on sticks (kebab style.) and using long sticks to put them a bit about the flame, that I reignited. I make the fire small as I could. Cuz you smoke meat with low flames. Like I said earlier it was a day in of itself. Or more accurately about half a day.

Mice meat that has been smoked so it won't go bad for a while.

-travel quality (for travel use only)

I guess travel is better than horrible. Also cooking all this meat got my cooking up to beginner 3. But I now have more to do. I made a bark needle a long while ago (like three to five days) I made it with the intent of making a bag for plants. But now I need a bag for all this meat, but before that, i should explain the inventory system. You see there is an inventory, but to access it you need to use bags. Bags, chests, and other containers made from materials from this world made in this world have an inventory proportional to the quality of materials, quantity of natural space, and workmanship. Though it doesn’t reduce weight or stop time. Well not without enchantments.

So let's think about what kind of bag to make. Pouch? Backpack? Or… backpack pouch! You see my backpack has a strap for carrying on the top. So I could make a pouch and tie it to the strap. Yeah, I think I'll do that. So to make a pouch I first need a large square of hide. I cut the wolf hide into the largest rectangle as I can. The edges were jagged, but it will serve its purpose. I grab a slightly large rock and place it in the center of the rectangle. I grab the edges and pull them over the rock to meet each other. Now I set the corners back to where they were, now that I know how I'm going to pull them I start on the ‘string’. I slice the mice hide into strips, and tie them with big notes, making a string ish thing. I then go to a nearby tree and make another bark needle but this one was larger, with a hole large enough for the hide string. After looping it in the hole, I pull the edges up over the rock again and holding it there with one hand, I grab the threaded needle and press the needle through the leather until the needle ends up where it began. Then I push the needle through the first hole I made. Then I tie the end of the string on the beginning. In case you couldn’t understand what I did. I made and eight with the top half being made around the opening of the pack. The knots I made to connect the string were just the right size to not fit through the holes without force, so it was perfect.

Similar to most of my skills this one had an identify attached to it.

Hide bag

A bag made from wolf hide, tied with a mouse hide string. The workmanship is terrible and could come apart at any moment.

-Low quality

I’ve gotten used to the descriptions hating on my works so it didn’t sting as much as the others had. And after opening the bag a screen popped up

Rock x1

---

This is, of course, the inventory screen. The rock which was in the bag to help model the shape was now listed on the inventory screen. I press the section with ‘rock’ on it and then a smaller screen popped up

Take rock out?

Y/N

I clicked no. then I pushed my hand into the screen with the rock and it went into it, then I felt the rock and pulled it out. It worked just as I read from the rules before I came to this world. There are two ways to withdraw an item from the inventory. The first is the quick draw. You reach your hand into the icon on the screen and pull out whatever item’s icon was where your hand was. Next is the select style. You press the icon with your finger and it pulls up the earlier screen.

Ok so now I have completed that I get to packing all my mice kebabs and pelts into my new pack. Oh, I almost forgot to mention items like food and pelts stack, but the max stack size depends on the bag quality. This quality allows around a twenty stack. While doing so I start thinking everything over. So I know how to use magic (even if only slightly), I have my water stocks completely full, I have a large stack of food, and now all I need is a weapon. The hatchet and knife won't work because they would snap easily, the steel knife is too dull and chipped, so it seems I will have to use my fists for now. My next step would be to move further into the forest. The most I will meet here are, level one mice or level four wolves. I want my blood to be pumping, to fight strong enemies and become stronger from it. So I think I've already decided. I will leave tomorrow morning. I mean like eleven AM not like eight. I need my sleep. So after I finish packing everything other than my sleeping bag, I decided to spend the rest of my day foraging. But first, I would need something to dig the plants out. So I decided to make a flint trowel. I’ll save you the boring details about how I made it sense you have already seen it with the knife and hatchet. So here's the finished product.

Crude flint trowel

A trowel made from flint and oak, it will dig but might break at any moment

-low quality

I also leveled my crude item crafting with this. I then go around spending the rest of the day digging small plants, picking fruit, berries, and nuts. By the end, my gathering had leveled up. I also take a look at all the plants I had, the ones that had properties were

A spiky nut in the shape of a banana (tasted like walnut)

Splindro

A nut that is known for calming stomach aches

Cures grade 0 poison

A green looking blueberry (that tasted like one too)

Mansrg

A berry that has a soothing taste

+1/h mp reg

A berry with too much juice for its size (tasted sour [i like sour])

Rinsag

A berry that literally explodes with flavor

A plant with leaves just a bit smaller than my hand and smelt of mint

Tensis

A herb that’s Leafs make a calming tea

I did the first thing I thought to do with all these things and that is to make tea with the ensis. So I set two tensis leaves on the ground in a pile and cut them into small pieces with my knife. I then carve a makeshift wooden cup out of some wood I cutted from a random tree. I grab a sort of flat stone and use sticks to prop the stone over the fire, and put the cup on it after filling it with water and throating the leaves in there, I also covered the cup with one of my shirts to stop steam from escaping. I see the cup start to burn on the bottom so I grab the shirt and threw it to the side, and using another shirt I grab the cup off the stone. The bottom was a bit black but it wasn’t leaking so I call it a success. I take a sip and it tasted mostly like water with a hint of a flavor I had never tasted before, probably the leaves. Over all, I call it a failure and considering the system didn’t put up any screens it must still consider this water and not tea.

After failing to make a tea I grab some unsmoked mice meat. What? Unsmoked mice meat? Of course, I kept some uncooked. I just didn’t say it. I put the meat on a kabob stick and squeezed some rinsag on it, or more specifically I pour some of the juice on the meat. I then cooked it and.

mice kebab

A none evenly cooked mice kebab seasoned with a sour ingredient, adding a sour hint to the flavor.

-very low quality!

Tasted better than my first kebabs at least. But after I was finished cooking I just meditate until I decide it’s bed time, where I then go to sleep after checking all my screens
