《The Games That Bind Us》Chapter 50 - Speed Beyond Speed

Clark Teta's Point Of View
"No, nope, not happening, I would rather pick a fight with Kieran of the 3 Fist Academy, that is never happening" Origami said to me seriously... I wonder if I can convince him?
"This way nobody dies and you have a simple straight forward job" I said hoping to convince him.
"Clark, you are asking me to walk right up to them, fight 4 dragons and a headmaster all at once head to head and you want me to use Paper Weightlessness and then Paper Weight on you making you fast enough to do what you need to do while I get let myself get slaughtered but extend the fight just long enough for you to pull off things on your end and on top of that you want me to us Paper Mask on you so nobody can identify you through the hundreds of Mana Crystal recorders... all just to move a room full of incriminating evidence over to the nearest academy which is the Technological Academy as they can send the information everywhere quickly... and after that you will come to me with the mask on and drag my beaten sorry ass out of there... did I miss anything? maybe how wrong it could go?" Origami said to me poking holes in my argument... he really does not like my plan, but if not that then how? the headmaster wont stay around unless he thinks there is no chance of his opponent winning.
"How about this, I enter without anyone noticing me, make a 100% Identical paper copy of everything in there and leave?" Origami said in protest of being beaten up for... 30-40 minuets.
"however an authenticity check will prove it is a fake" I said and Origami shut up and looked at me for a moment before standing and putting a Paper Mask of a dragon on me. I then felt my Dragon powers vanish. "What did you do? my dragon powers?" I said before I noticed I felt more... free?
"You are no longer a dragon, you are a Paper Master" Origami said to me, "Not to my extent however you should have Minor Paper Affinity. try boosting your speed" Origami said to me and I was fast, Origami was faster however I was so much faster then before...
"This is incredible... is this how it is for you? this feeling of freedom?" I asked and he looked down.
"Paper, many pages are in a book and some people have such freedom in writing there next adventure with a fresh start. however it is not the same for me," Origami said as his pressure started coming out again, he then smiled as his pressure vanished, "Enough of that, we have an academy to destroy, and by we I mean you and do it fast, Paper Weight" Origami said as he slowed down, I then saw everything stop, falling leaves froze in the air, clouds stopped drifting across the sky, Origami then started running and unlike before where he was a blur it was like he was moving in slow motion... Is this how a Paper Master sees the world? everything is so slow, a day becomes an eternity, how could this be bad? however looking at the smile on his face I feel that through the Façade he is truly pained for some reason. what could be the reason?
We continue are run to the academy and I don't feel tired, I feel like I have energy to spare and the world around me stands unchanged... I see why he thought he could ignore the other dragons, even when giving me his speed multipliers he is still able to keep up with me, he is impressive for a human, I would hate to think what could pain even him. we reach the Dust Academy and I break off to a side entrance as he shoots a wave of paper at the front of the building, calling 4 Dragons to respond instantly, I run off with a simple task. I need to pick up as much incriminating evidence as I can and run to the nearest academy and run back to repeat a few times and destroy any footholds the Dust Academy has. while Origami has to deal with 4 dragons and a headmaster while letting himself loose at the same time procrastinating just long enough for me to complete my end, I wish you luck Origami.

John's Point Of View
I got help from Clark Teta and he is making me have the worst job ever, I need to let my self get my ass handed to me on a silver platter while worming my way through it just long enough to not die and for Clark Teta to do his job and save me. I blasted a wall of Paper Bullets at the front of the huge mansion like building and sure enough 3 Dragons and one person who I failed to kill at the tournament came out of the building and charged at me, stopping a few meters away.
"ORIGAMI?" Yorlan said surprised to see me. I smiled and thought I could procrastinate the procrastination battle, until out of nowhere the Headmaster appeared, no... he moved so fast I couldn't see him clearly, I defiantly saw a blur. more then I saw for Kieran, less then I saw for Clark... he was fast.
"Hello there" I said with a smile.
"What are you doing here?" The Headmaster said with a crooked smile. I repaid him in kind
"I was just in the area and saw a fly next to me, I swatted it with a wall of Paper Bullets... sorry that lie is way to obvious. I will give you a clue.... I have only been to 3 Academies and 2 have fallen to the ground, 1 is still standing thanks to a freak of nature called Kieran... so you tell me, why am I here?" I asked and his face contorted before he sighed
"I possess dragons, you were better off attacking Kieran and the 3 Fists Academy" the Headmaster said with bored look on his face.
"I have ways around dragons. Kieran is to powerful and does not weaken his opponent with aura. dragons do... I am not affected by that so try again" I said simply as the 4 dragons got ready to attack the Headmaster stopped them.
"So before I watch my 4 Dragons arrest you since I can't believe you... may you tell me why you are destroying academies?" the headmaster said with curious smile. I looked at him no longer smiling.
"To build a more peaceful world, your academy is corrupt and unjust, it holds power because of it controlling dragons however abuses that power for a profit, it is an indirect cause of millions of deaths if not billions. you have so much power but you have been corrupted because of it. I am here to bring an end to the meaningless deaths and end your corruption" I said before I realise I really need to stop releasing my pressure, the 4 dragons are already questioning if they should fight me and the Headmaster is looking at me strangely.
"Those are some nice goals however will it truly become more peaceful? humanity needs evil, someone or something to make everyone else group together against a common enemy, something to make people not overpopulate and yet at the same time refine our evolution. Humanity needs a but of corruption to show the good what not to be. without it tensions will rise before conflict begins throughout the group leading to mass wars, deaths on a large scale resulting in a worse event then the Blue Mist, that is why there is no longer tests to see what will stop the Blue Mist. the fear of what will happen afterwards. can you say that there will not be any wars I speak off? that things wont just get worse? are you saying it would be worth it?" the Headmaster said to me and I thought about it.

"Yep, not a single war you mentioned will occur, I will not let it" I said simply, I am strong enough to make a one man army, I could prevent wars.
"Fool. you alone could not stop wars across the planet" the Headmaster said however I smiled and shook my head.
"I can, because you can simply prevent the wars from happening in the first place, there are tournaments around even to this day as a goal, where people push them self in competition, they are brought together not through fear or loss, but from Joy and a common goal. you are blinding yourself to the possibility of a good outcome and instead fear the worst, however I will ensure a good outcome follows, there will be a lasting peace without such destruction and pain. you fear the worst instead of working out a way for the best solution, haven't you also suffered loss at the hands of the Blue Mist?" I finished with however the moment I spoke about his loss he let out a wave of Bloodlust akin to my Bloodlust aura.
"WE ALL HAVE LOST!!!" he shouted sending out so much Bloodlust the dragons started shaking. "I lost my wife, my daughter, I lost everyone who was important to me to the Blue Mist and I realised everyone came together to help each other, people who had been at each other's throats were now helping take care of each other's wounds. and we could fight against the Blue Mist, I realised the destruction made us come together and become strong. I built this academy and made it truly strong. no other academy could touch us as we had dragons, the 4 you see in front of you were all the same, Quin's mother was corrupted by the Blue Mist and tried to kill him. Yorlan was cast aside by his family. Feron was born all alone without anyone there for him. Teonus being the elder amongst them took them in and cared for them, he was kind and loving however oppression from humans drove him full of negative emotions. I took them under my wing and gave them a home free of that oppression. a home where they could help protect this world that is free from true pain. you say you will prevent the wars like that but many tried before, all of them failed, what makes you any different?" The Headmaster concluded and asked me... I was shocked at what he said before I smiled.
"I am different because of one simple thing. I can adapt, I can change to fit the situation I find myself in, I can mould the path ahead of me the way I need it, and I don't stand alone. I stand with comrades who share the idea of making a better world. I alone may not be able to do much however together I wont loose, not to you, not to the Blue Mist and not to anything that comes after. You claim know so much nightmare makes you strong yet you are weak, True power is achieved from facing the pain and accepting it, you look upon such pain and make sure no one has to feel such pain again, you push forwards and grow stronger, if the world changes around you, you change with it and do everything in your power to make it a better place. In the end you are just scared and cant grow stronger, I pushed forwards and wont let a single thing stop me" I said seriously, I then finally got control of my pressure and stopped projecting it. the Headmaster stood in shock. he looked at me with confusion.
"What kind of pain did you have to go through to be able to project so much power behind your speech.
"I forgot for a time, however recently I recalled it. I watched someone I care about die. over and over again, I spent years in a day repeating it to find a way to save her. I managed to however after that I felt something break inside of me, I had it forcefully fixed though. I was given so much love from my loved ones, however when I put on this mask I feel the pain of something worse, I am after a good cause however they believe I am in the wrong and am just someone with a bounty on my head, the pain of all that hurts beyond compare however at least I know when all this is over with I can remove the mask and return, put the pain behind me as I shape the future, never forgetting however just finding more joy then pain. for now I must push on, or all my work will be in vain. you may stand in my way or work to better the world, right now... it doesn't really matter" I said while turning around. Clark finished and returned fast enough to hear most my statements, he looks like he is built for speed. truly a good fighter, we leave the Academy behind to fall under its own criminal activities however Clark asks me something.
"Was any of what you said true?" Clark asked referring to what I said to what I said and I looked off to the north, where the last academy was.
"I don't tell the truth much, take it as you will" I said to him not wanting to give to much away about myself. he still looked concerned. "So will you still follow me. I need to take care of the Ice Academy now and that should do it unless I get more information about the Blue Mist" I said honestly and he looked at me.
"I did not just screw over my old home just to quit now and I am sure you could use some help" Clark said to me, I just used Paper Weightlessness and ran in the direction of the final academy with Clark, after that I need to go to the Big Tree Academy. should be simple enough, oh wait... it never is.... we continue running as nothing appeared to move around us, the problem with speed is when things are like this, the day I can take off this mask for good feels so far away.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.

Defenders of Fantasmyth
DROPPED: this story is unfinished and will likely remain that way. If you are looking for quality work that is still being updated, you're better off checking out my fanfiction. No, really. That wasn't a joke. Jakyra, a young-adult coairse* dragon with an affinity for wordplay and skill in fighting, is a pest to her government the Dragon Crown. This odd relationship leads her to make contact with a long-lost magical, draconic construct of great renown called Ismat, leading up to a string of bizarre, humorous, and troublesome events. Chance brings together the impulsive dragon, her quiet, resolute elven friend Sauda, amiable, honor-seeking dwarf Gunnar, and the construct Ismat. The Omniguards, Defenders of Fantasmyth, are born. *No, that is not a typo.
