《The Games That Bind Us》Chapter 38 - Paper Potential

Walking into the training room I pull out a piece of paper. with this piece of paper I absorb it into myself just as I did for Paper Weight. however I tried changing a few things about the process and instead converted it into Mana. I failed the first time almost crushing myself with Paper Weight however after a bit of practice I do it.

[Paper Conversion: You can now turn paper into Mana, 1 piece of A4 paper is worth 100 MP]

however I was not done yet. Paper is something I will need a lot of so I would need to find a way to make paper as I do fire and ice for other magic. I reversed the method of changing paper into Mana and made paper, not much but I did it.

[Paper Conversion: You can now turn paper into Mana and turn Mana into Paper, 1 piece of A4 paper is worth 100 MP]

and with this I can summon paper, it does not even have to be touching me, I can summon a piece to the other end of the room. this was interesting. so many possibilities and it is just paper. I will have some fun with this however first things first. some kind of protection. I had few skills that protect me from harm and more just deal damage. maybe a paper shield or a paper barrier? I start concentrating on moving the Paper and holding it together as a barrier floating in front of me. it holds together for a small amount of time but falls apart quickly, holding it together is harder then it looks. I try a few more times before I move onto a hand held shield. this time it almost forms itself, it just formed this simple small shield, without even much input.

[Paper Shield: This shield removes 20% of the damage inflicted on the user]

that is handy, The shield is to small to do much, I will shelve that for later. maybe when I get better control of paper, however there is another thing I want to try. I hope it works. Moving a few pieces of paper I fold it into a mask. it is a simple mask, it looked like a bird, it was the sort of thing rich people wear at parties except mine was just white paper. it stuck itself to my face and would not just fall off, no blue box came up for a few seconds however when I removed the mask I saw one.

[Paper Mask: Hides your identity, while you have this mask on you will stand out however you will also be unidentifiable and your control of paper is increased. costs Gamer Ability]

I am not sure how I feel about that. well, removing the mask returns the gamer ability and being unidentifiable could come in handy. however I wont be using that much unless I need to façade as someone else. with that in mind I start a few other idea's I had. I put the mask on to make things easier and I use a some paper and make the shape of a golem, I have a few other Ideas for paper summoning however golem may be good for starting out with. I made it 1 meter tall and it starts moving around without my input. "halt" I say and the golem stops moving, "Attack the wooden training dummy" I said and it walks over and hits the wooden training dummy. interesting, I take the mask off and sure enough I see a blue box.

[Origami Summoning: By folding paper you can summon creatures. power depends on complexity of the origami and skill level]

hmm. something still feels like it is missing, an AOE attack? I will also need movement skills since I will loose my gamer ability when I don the mask. maybe even some of that illusion magic. and of course some cool aesthetics to make me look cool. if I ever have a reason to hide my identity to do something I want to still look cool, hmm... I still want to get it checked out by the Academy Of The Sky but showing them the mask ability is a no go, maybe I can pretend like what I showed Michael was my limit, maybe.... still, going around with a cool ability unidentifiable and powerful is something I look forward to. but enough of that, I put on the Paper Mask and start work on an Area Of Effect attack. I summon paper from the ceiling and make it rain down as fast as possible. this idea was from Michael's Bullet Hell. the paper slices through the training dummies, even the steel ones. interesting. moving on, I.... don't know where to start for illusion magic, I remove the paper mask and go and find the neighbourhood illusion master.

"no, not happening, I am not letting you steal the only thing I am good at, go find someone else" Isaac said to me as I walked over to him, damn it, do I know any other Illusion masters?

"John, you cheep son of a bitch, Lin beat the hell out of me because you said I was dreaming about some elf. what the hell?" Michael said to me in a joking anger. that masochist, "Anyway, why are you after illusions?" Michael asked me, excuse time,,,, I wanted to learn another magic.... I would like to be able to be better prepared for future battles... there we go,

"I would like to be better prepared for future battles. by any chance do you know illusion magic? the library did not have book on it" I asked him and he nodded but doubted my words. what? it is just those battles would be fought as a cool masked master of paper. maybe I can claim that I saw him while getting the paper powers and he is a master of it? I somehow doubt anyone would believe that... I need to raise my mental stats if that is all I have got... paper is complicated...

"Sure, follow me" Michael said teleporting me into his room. "these are 3 simple books on illusions. I asume your ability will have the rest for you" Michael said while passing me the books.

[Sensory Illusions: Mess with someone's senses directly, this can be focused to only affect 1 person. costs depends on the illusion and the mental fortitude of the target]

[Illusion field: make an illusion by messing with perception or making something look like it is not, costs vary depending on illusion size and detail]

[Light Magic: Used to make light, can be used to alter existing light. costs vary depending on skill level and intelligence]

this should do just fine, I now get basic knowledge of Illusions, Non of it tells me of to make paper illusions... aww, I was looking forward to that. maybe... If I find a way to change the colour of the paper... that I will most likely get from evolution of the skills anyway. hmm... what else can paper be used for... to send a message? PAPER AEROPLANE!!!

I leave Michaels room with Blink Step and quickly put on my Paper Mask while I write 'something' down on a piece of summoned paper. I folded it into a paper aeroplane and threw it, nothing. maybe I need to picture a destination? ok then lets have this go to Conner's Desk. and as soon as I thought that the paper plane flew off... I took my mask of to see the legendary blue box.

[Paper Plane: you can move a paper plane to any accessible location. provided you have been there before costs 50 Mana/s for flying the plane manually and 10,000 to go to any place you have been before]

oh well, one last thing I need is movement. I already guessed about this one. I absorbed a piece of paper and removed my weight, I did not move it anywhere I just made me weigh less to be able to move faster. I jump around bouncing off the ceiling and walls with ease. this looks promising. removing my mask I see the blue box.

[Paper Weightlessness: you sacrifice a piece of paper and decrease your weight to that of a piece of paper, you also receive a 50% speed boost]

I am happy with that, any other abilities? maybe I can wait to see where my currant abilities do, for now Kate, Eron, Nina and Lilian should be coming back soon, maybe I can see if they recognise me with the mask on, if they cant then it would take a powerful sensory skill to get me identified. I put the Mask on for the final challenge. I see them approaching, they are back a bit exhausted, Lilian is the most exhausted out of the 4 being hardly able to walk straight, I walk out from around the corner and walk right past them, they look at and as I pass grow very curious of me however they don't recognise me. with that I conclude this mask is awesome, I think tomorrow I will ask Conner for permission to go to the Academy Of The Sky for further investigation.

Chapter 39 - To The Sky

John, Kate, Eron, Nina and Lilian all make their way to the Academy Of The Sky to try and find the secrets of John's new power.

I hoped you enjoyed the chapter, not much dialogue however there will be more in the next chapter, this was just exploring some of papers posibilities
