The whole camp was gathered around the outrageously large tree that lit the night. Most of the elves were staring daggers at Iryl while others just couldn't take their gaze off the tree..
' ..Hey... It's not like I knew this would happen... '
Is what Iryl would like to say but the words just couldn't leave his mouth so in the end he just said..
" Ehhh..? Sorry... I might have caused this... "
He kept a wry smile on his face and scratched his head with one of his hands as he wasn't sure how to react about it.. The elves just kept staring while Narxus who was in front of him said..
" Now I understand... "
Narxus gaze almost immediately changed from confused to a serious one and without losing time he grabbed Iryls hand.. A drop of sweat could be seen running down on Iryls neck as he understood what this meant...
" You seriously can't be thinkin... "
But before he could finish his sentence Narxus was already running his way through the elves while laughing maniacally and saying..
" TO THE EXPERIMENTATION FACILI... GHMMM* TO THE LABORATORY!! AHAHAHA!! "
" Help!! Someone!! Help me!! I don't want to be a test subject again... Nooo..."
That way, all the elves that were gathered there that night were left in the black as they kept staring at the gigantic tree.. Iryl and Narxus on the other hand were currently stuck.. Or what seemed to be stuck in a small alley.. Iryl was holding a wooden wall, part of a shack while Narxus was pulling Iryl from the legs while saying..
" We.. Are going.. To the LAB!! "
" NEVER!! Over my dead body!! "
" Then it will.. Be.. Meaningless! "
The two of them had no intention of backing down so in the end, (10 minutes later) they were both exhausted on the ground..
" Huff.. Huff.. Then, let's just talk it out.. Here... Is that fine..? "
Narxus backed down! Ghmm* In the end Narxus was too tired to keep up and since Iryl would be able to escape if the struggle kept going on any longer.. He decided that his best choice was to talk it out..
" Huff.. Yes.. Huff... It is fine, if it's only talking... Huff.. "
So... With that said and done the two elves sat down on two nearby logs opposite to each other. Without losing time Narxus spoke first.
" So.. What was that back there..? A silvery mist was forming around your body and whatever it touched had it's growth greatly accelerated.. Did you know about that..? "

" To be honest Mister Narxus I have no idea what that was.. "
Narxus opened his eyes in surprise because he thought Iryl was conscious when he was meditating.
" What do you mean..? You mean you didn't have control over it?! "
At those words Iryl shook his head and said..
" No! No.. That's not what I meant.. The thing is that this thing will most likely always happen whenever I meditate from now on.. "
As he finished his sentence Iryl lowered his head and had his fists clenched. Even though, he wished to hide the truth behind his spiritual contract he wasn't sure for how long he could keep it up..
Narxus on the other hand saw that Iryl was being troubled by something and knew that it must have had something to do with his spiritual contract so he gave a long sigh and said only to ease Iryl.
" Sigh... It's okay if you want to hide things about your spiritual contract.. But, it wouldn't hurt to open up to someone at least.. Geez.. "
When he finished what he was saying Narxus shot up from the log he was sitting on and said.
" Man.. It's not like me to back down so easily.. Well whatever.. If you feel like you want to talk about it with someone I am always willing to help! "
Iryl was still sitting on the log while staring down on the road. His eyes were wide open and several thoughts passed from his mind..
' This person.. Just wants to help me.. If only.. If I told him.. '
' No if I tell him I am sure that they will treat me differently for better or for worse.. Like in my old world.. '
' But if only.. If only he understands... '
' In the end.. I am a coward at heart... No matter what I do I can't trully open to other people.. If it is him.. I am sure he... '
After a long time of thinking and Narxus being at the end of the small alley Iryl whispered..
" ..I understand... I'll tell you.. But, promise me one thing.. "
Narxus all this time had his ears open and heard him loud and clear. Before Iryl could turn his gaze from the ground Narxus was already sitting once again on the log...
' Fast... '
" Anything! I will promise anything!! "
His eyes were sparkling and the grin on his face was the biggest one he had ever made so far in front of Iryl...
With a slight frown Iryl said.
" Very well.. I wish for what I am about to say to stay only between me and you Mister Narxus. "
His eyes were staring straight into Narxus's eyes and his gaze was that similar to a beast ready to eat its prey..

Narxus gulped once and said.
" I.. I understand. I will take what you tell me to death.. "
With that being said Iryl blew out the air in his lungs and with a small sigh of relief he began explaining what was going on with his spiritual contract..
Half an hour later Iryl said the last words of his story. How he first made the spirit contract, what he talked about with Zyth. The fact that Zyth is a Spirit God, his multiple personalities, what happens when he meditates and lastly about the tree where he meditated..
Narxus listened to the whole story without uttering a single word. And once Iryl finished he said while holding his jaw which was resting on his left hand.
" I see.. So that is what happened... "
" Don't forget about your promise.. "
Narxus made a small sincere smile before noding.
" Don't worry! I won't say anything. But, to think that you would make a contract with a Spirit God.. That sure is impressive.. "
" Ehh?! You know something about Spirit Gods Mister Narxus? "
Iryl asked surprised and much to his suspicion Narxus said with a frown..
" Well.. Not much about them. All I know is that they are one of the higher ranked spirits if not the highest among the spirit world... Apart from that I think that they make spirit contracts with Elves that have at least 8 spirit contracts... But, I don't think that's your case.. Those tattoos in particular. Right..? "
Narxus said the last sentence jokingly with a small grin on his face.. A moment later, Iryl gave a slight nod back at his words before turning his gaze away..
The two Elves remained in silence for a few more moments, then Narxus asked him another question only to break the weird silence that floated in the air...
" So.. What are you going from now on..? "
" Even if you say that.. I don't really know what I should do.. "
" How about forming a second spirit contract? If my memory serves me correct your spirit essence must be in the late two hundreds! "
" Well.. I thought of that... But, I can no longer feel the spirits around me.. (AN: Not that you could before >.>) "
" Ehh..?! Is that so..? But when you were meditating under the tree I could see the spirits gathering around the aura your body gave off... And there were a lot of them.. I couldn't count them to be honest.. "
Narxus shrugged at his last words and Iryl said.
" Well.. I don't know what you are talking about.. But, as I said before when I meditate I think I am going in a different dimension than ours.. Or so I heard from Zyth.. I don't know what is happening with my body here when I am there... "
" Another dimension huh..? Well! Anyway, what are your plans for now? "
Iryl didn't say anything for a while and thought about it while gazing upwards where the stars lit the sky..
" Hmm.. I don't know.. Maybe I will leave the camp? "
" Hahaha! What are you talking about Iryl? Leave the camp? They won't allow.. No, I won't allow it either! Even if you try to run away, I don't think that you will be able to escape from the hunting group! So remove those thoughts from your brain and decide what you'll be doing from now on! You are always welcome to help me with my study.. Or you can help Mirana if you want... "
" I know Mister Narxus... But, I think you already know about what I plan for the near future.. And if anything what I need now is experience.. Living here will only slow me down... "
" Even so.. I still won't allow you to leave... Anyway! Think about it a little more before you decide.. I want your answer by the end of the week.. Hey! Iryl do you hear me?! "
Iryl was lost in his thoughts about what he should do from now on so he didn't pay much attention at Narxus.. Soon enough he closed his eyes and gave out a long sigh..
" Hey!! Iryl are you listening to me?! "
" I understand Mister Narxus.. "
" Huh..? "
" I will decide by the end of the week.. Even though I don't think my mind will change.. "
He once again looked at the starry sky and thought..
' A life without fighting huh..? Well.. It could be nice... '
" That's all for today.. I am quite tired so I'll be taking my leave now.. "
" Eh..? Ahh.. Sure. Good night.. "
Iryl made his way towards his shack and Narxus sighed as he saw him leaving..
" Seriously.. What a troublesome child... "
And so, the night came to a close as Iryl was resting on his leaf bed inside the shack he occupied..
' A life as a caged bird.. Huh..? '

Scorched - The Winter Winds (LitRPG)
Frank Ebner once wanted to save the world. Let the second one be better than the first. On Earth he was a student of... well it hardly matters anymore. It was dying, and he and the rest of his fellows and friends studying how to stave off the end graduated just in time to be told it was too late. That there was not enough time, funds, will, to stop it anymore. That the governments and the worthies of the world had moved from trying to stop it, to surviving the oncoming apocalypse, while blaming each other. That was a world Frank wanted nothing to do with. One riven by wars for places in the Archologies going up, and between them and the dying world they were leaving behind. So when a strange voice offered him a way out, to a world unmarred by the poison killing his? Frank took it. The voyage changed him, made him fit his new world, one of stats and magic. It came with perks, for in passing through their Heavens, they'd been exposed to Divinity, and taken some of the Celestial within them. Heroes now, but there are heroes, and there are Heroes. The nobility of the Empire care only for those who carry blessed bloodlines, and their time to adapt and train up for the new world is limited. Patrons are scarce among those like Frank, with only the base Hero perks, and magic studies expensive and lengthy. Often requiring heavy Oaths to gain the necessary aid to wield mana as a mage. Frank found another way. It nearly cost him his life. Now on the run and burned by the very magic he sought and craved, he is a pilgrim traveling to the The Eternal Tree, font of Perseverance. Frank hopes Ir-karlak will grant him some way to recover from the fires that scorched him. Without snuffing out the embers those fires lit within, for he has learned to harness them and he would not give up magic for the world. *** In the last 21 days, as I update this, I've managed about 18-19 updates. So Scorched should update most days, muse willing. She's fickle, sometimes. Not every day, but most. If there's an update for the day, it will be at 7PM, GMT+2. *[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Actually completed it. :) *
