《THE CHRONICLES OF THE LOST HERO》Chapter 9 The Test of the Magi

Most of the humans who did not meet the standards to be a mage. Complained and caused a seen saying the test were rigged or for the archmage to let them retry. Some complained the results were wrong cause they knew they must have the ability to use magic. Every now and then someone would accept their fate. heading threw a separate door for those agreeing to stay. They were normally from a poor family or had hopes to become a great warrior.
While others who refused to become one of them and caused to cause to much trouble. Men in armor and weapons would come in normally in light leather armor. The armored men would excort the men who cause trouble and not calm down to the closest exit. It seemed everyone that had a choice to become a mage never hesitated to become accepting to study to become a mage.
Everyone that had the potential to become a mage all passed as apprentice strength. None seemed to have the potential for higher strength and if true it take a lifetime to raise one level. If it really took so long to raise one level. Did that mean that most mages didn’t mount to anything matter how hard they worked? This came to Nuwas mind the closer they got and seeing so many take the test.
It seemed to Nuwa that there must been easier way to raise ones power easier then that. The group Nuwa was with about to be next in front of them was two well dressed men. Both men seemed to dressed in finely made silk suits. One was a dark blue color while the other was a bright green. Both seemed to look similar almost like they were related. From what Nuwa could guess it was high possibility that they were brothers.
Both of the two well dressed men stepped forward to the crystal. The one looking to be the oldest of the two wearing the bright green suit. Placed his hand on the crystal causing the crystal to shine to a light green color. Moments later the archmage overseeing that crystal stood up and in a calming voice announced “Lord Lawrick Edeon first adept will you become study to become a mage. If you accept the path of the mage please head down the door of stars.”
Hearing he past the test the man turned felt even more superior than the rest. Stepping to the side so he could watch his brother take the test. So both of them could inter Mages school together. The younger of the two walked up and sat his hand on the crystal. With no change in color the crystal staying as clear as can be.
The archmage again stood up but this time the archmage in the same calming voice announced. “Lord Richard Edeon no magical potential detected. If you wish you may go to the practical path.”
Hearing that he didn’t have the potential to be a mage made him mad. Getting furious the man looked at the archmage and started to yell. “ How is it possible for my brother to be a mage and yet your telling me I never be able to. This is impossible and yet you want me to go do physical labor. I am a prince of Ebeon kingdom. You will let me into the magi path or you me and my brother will leave here.”
The archmage looking at the young man in front of him then his brother. Without even batting a eye the archmage and in a voice like he was annoyed replied. “ If you want to leave you both can. In truth it does not matter to us if you stay or go. Just cause your royalty of a neighboring country. It does not mean anything to us and your brother is just a adept. You both can leave you will get no special treatment here cause of your bloodline. All that matters here is magic and skill.”

Hearing what the archmage said the younger man was even madder. Looking over at his brother Lawrick. The younger brother Richard yelling cause of his anger. “ Let's get out of Lawrick we don’t need this stupid place. We are princes who needs a place that does not recognize us.”
Staring at his brother for moment the elder brother Lawrick turned around and went threw the door of stars. Marking him as accepting to study to become a student to study magic. Seeing his brother turn his back on him and not leaving with him. The young man started to scream how could he not back him up. Instead his brother Lawrick would instead go without to become a mage.
Rushing the archmage who said he would not be a mage. The young nobel plan was to take out the archmage. To damage the strength of the school just like the archmage destroyed his dream of being a mage. Pulling out a dagger from his sleeve when he was just a couple of feet away.
The only female archmage near by seeing the nobel charging the elderly archmage. With a flick of finger toward the nobel blade of wind so strong anyone in the room could see it. The blade striking the nobel in the chest causing the clothing to be shredded. It was like seeing the man be cut with a thousand blades cutting at the man all at once.
The finely made bright green suit seemed to be ripped to shreds. Slamming the marble wall across the room causing blood to drip from his mouth and forehead. With the cuts unknown number of minicure cuts from the attack the archmage done. In matter of moments the female archmage stopped the aslant attack. Coughing up blood and unable to stand the noble in an isolant and awkward tone.
“ You dare harm a prince of the the mighty Edeon empire. We will destroy this feebile country. If it was not for the support of our great country your’s would of been destroyed long ago. I will make sure our great country of Ebeon destroys this feeble place.”
As the young man kept spatting nonsense. A couple of guards came toward the man and grabbing him by the collar. The guards started to dragging the man out of the room. As if nothing happen at all or who they upset. Both archmages the one who was about to be attacked and the one who sent the nobel fling with almost no effort. The two asked the next ones in line to step up like nothing happen.
Yet seeing the feat that the archmage executed was exceptional and amazing. It made everyone that seen it rethink of causing any more trouble. Seeing just a fraction of the power the archmage gave off. Made Nuwa a little envious of the power if she had even a fraction of the power. Then she could protect those who could not protect themselves.
Like the time Reku rescued her from the Puca’s that destroyed her tribe. To her the person Reku was is everything Nuwa wanted to become. Someone who rescues and saves those in need. It never mattered if one was from a human or beast kind. To him everyone was worth saving matter the race they were from. The only time he ever killed something was either for food or when provoked by others.
Looking up Nuwa noticed that the family of faunas finally reached front of the line. The elder archmage seeing the family looking how worried the family seemed of being seperated. In a light tone almost as if to answer the unspoken question. “If only part of you have the potential to become a mage. During the day they will study magic and others can study the practical path choosen best for them. At the end of each day you will be able to return to the house provided for your family.”

Hearing that they would not be completely separated made the family happy. Brining a smile of relief on both parents faces. It was like the fear just vanished and somehow everything was working out. Stepping forward the male fauna placed his panda shaped hand onto the crystal. With no reaction to the crystal the archmage made the usually announcement manner. “ Barley has no potential to become a mage.”
Listening to what the elder mage said. The eldest fauna informed the mage he would go the physical path. Yet he would to see the results of his family. Stepping to the side The father stood to the side waiting to see if his family would have any better luck.
Rushing forward and jumping up and down was the youngest fauna. With every jump the young girls bunny ears seemed to bounce with every movement. The young girl was so excited to go with every other hop. She would yell she wanted to go next. Touching the crystal the light shined a bright white light. Which caused the young girl to quickly pull her hand away.
“Ruby daughter of Barley has the potential to be a apprentice mage. Well done young magi.” Giving the young girl a slight smile happy to see the young one past the test. Running up to her father the young girl Ruby hopped into her father arm. Happy as could be for daughter for showing some magical potential. Swinging his younger daughter around and tossing her in the air. Barley was showed his daughter just how happy he was for her. While thinking that maybe her future will be better even if just a little.
The eldest daughter stepped up next without waiting to be told. Placing her hand on the crystal in a tone like it was a bothersome. To the eldest daughter all she cared about was being with her family. Even though she didn’t even attempt to try to take the test. The orb started to give off a dim green light. Seeing the light the color of green. The archmage announced that Trix had the potential to become a adept mage and the second one for the day.
Seeing that both his daughters had passed the test. Tears flowing from both parents eyes. Seeing their kids might have a better future than they could have ever imagined. There was no telling what kind of study of magi would partake of. The last of the family members to take the test was the mother. Worried that her kids would be alone in school of magic alone.
All she could think about while placing her hand on the crystal. Was simply that she wished she could join her two children. If nothing else she wished to be there for her children. To support them in there studies and be by their side. At first the crystal didn’t react to the womans touch. Soon as the archmage was about to announce that she had no potential to be a magi. The crystal shined a very dim white light. Lighter than any the arcmage had ever seen.
Instead the archmage looked at the grand archmage. Who instead spoke up for him. In a unique situation you show to have some magical ability even if it's just very faint. We will allow you to join the mage studies. It is unknowest just how well or powerful your abilities will be. There will be only one way to find out and it be a effort of study on our behalf also. So congratulation Trix your welcomed into the magi studies.”
This made her and the kids happy but then the youngest started to cry. Saying things she felt bad for her dad. That he was the only one that was left out. Whipping away the tears away from his daughter’s eyes. Barley knelt down and in a gentle voice told his daughter everything would be fine. That he would never be alone he just be working during the day and at night he be with them. It was not like he would never see his beautiful girls again.
The grand archmage looking to the family In a deep but gentle tone. “ We ask those of you the family that qualify and willing. May step threw the door of the magi and the others who do not wish may follow the father. If none wish to do any later will be escorted to safety. If all stay at the end of initiation into you expected field will lead your family to the family housing.”
As the family went their separate ways. As others around them kept taking the test. Nuwa looked and notice it was finally time for both her and Kaya time to take the test. Taking Kaya hand Nuwa helped place the nervous half elf’s hand onto the crystal. The crystal immediately reacted to the energy flowing the girl. Flying the the colors one after another, white, green, light red, all the way to the crimson red color. It was like the crystal wanted to start split and spew blood from the tips of the crystal.
Shock ran over the archmage face standing before him. Was a mage that had the potential to become a mage master. Out of every session there be only a handful that qualified to become a mage. Since the test only happens every five years for any new initiates. With only a handful of people that even show the quality to become a mage it was lucky enough to just have two that had the potential to become an adepts.
Looking over at the grand archmage the elder mage looked pleased. “ You have brought us some amazing gifted people this time around Grandmaster. We may have blessed year with all the talent that has come.”
Noticing that there was still a few protestipants left to take the test. A look of disdained came over the archmage's face. That the rest had nothing to really to offer. The luck of having so many already with two adepts and a master potential mage back to back.
The few that were left most likely would not even have any potential. If there was any most like there just be a two or three more apprentices left in the group. Yet even so they needed to give them a chance. Maybe a few that were left would at least be able to become blacksmith or soldiers. If that was any decided to stay and study under the physical path.
Stepping up to the crystal Nuwa just wanted to finish test to see what was to expect after. It felt like half the day had went by and all she been doing was waiting for the test to come to end. Unlike most other participants Nuwa placed both her hands onto the stone. Picturing her energy flowing into the crystal with her eyes closed. To everyone else the noticed the crystal would not stay one color but jumping in between and back again. White, Green, Red, Blue, Gold and back to in colors. It was almost like like a fight between magic.
To Nuwa she was seeing something completely different. The more energy see seemed to guid into the crystal. The clearer an image of an man to be older she had ever seen before. The ban had a dark back robes with red runes that seemed to be like fire burning.
A long flowing beard that went down far enough to touch his toes. His eyes seem to be as black as a demon’s eyes. The man skin was so wrinkled. That the man almost seemed to be like a skeleton with skin still attached just no fat or muscles. Looking at the man you could see a dark aura.
The figure spoke in a deep screeching tone somewhat like a nail on a chalkboard. “ Young one the power you have within you is just Loithsin needs. Your perfect host to bring the lord back into this world.” As Nuwa ripped her hand away from the crystal Nuwa slowly heard the fading sound of laughter. Finally the last word to come as everyone was staring at her in confused state. “ You can not get away from the fate that awaits you. You have been chosen young one.”
The four archmage watching over the examines looked over at the grand archmage. Even the grandmaster never seen this happen during an exam. The crystal acted in way that none had ever seen before. Going back and forth from one rating to another. Like the potential of the one in front of them could be great or oblique in nature.
Pulling the archmages to the side. Alder asked the others what they thought about the phenomenal occurence that happen. It was a miracle but they had no idea what this meant. The crystal was only know to raise to one color. Then that color showed one's potential as a mage. Never before had the crystal went so wild changing from one color to another and back again.
With none knowing how to answer but all agreeing they couldn’t deny her. They must even encourage her to join. The chance to see what this knew phenomena meant. After much debate on what category to fall under. They came to a conclusion that they could not make that decision at that time. Instead they would let her in on a special category never before done. Then again there always has to be a first for something.
The mages coming back in front of everyone. The Alder made the announcement. That Nuwa would be considered a special initiate till further notice. With little less being said Nuwa walked with Kaya threw the door with stars. Marking it as the door of the magi.

Travelers [DROPPED]
DROPPED. The story focuses less on dungeon building than on the why of dungeons and how they fit into the universal order. While I am working from a grand plot, the writing is going slice of life style because I need to do that to work out how things progress into that grand plot. The original story seed idea / synopsis is below. The Grand Tapestry protects Rhofhir from Primal Chaos by imposing Order via patterns. However, the patterns grow stiff, stagnant, and so the Tapestry is nearing a time of Unraveling. Evidence of past civilizations wiped out during previous Unravelings foreshadow the apocalyptic catastrophe looming over the world. The mages of the Arcane Asylum reach out across dimensions, searching for some way to prevent, or at least stall, the coming Unraveling. Among the many voices they find is a gifted graduate student researching machine-assisted telepathy -- and his gaming group. Lena never expected that the chance to play DnD with telepathy would result in her becoming an actual Dungeon Master, nor that her friends could become the bosses of her dungeon. This is, in many ways, her dream come true, but there's a catch: What happened to Brad, the creator of that telepathy machine?
