《Living Armor》Chapter 11: Tower Diving

*slash* *Yelp* an unfortunate zombie dog that was waiting at the beginning of the second floor was swiftly cut down by my dagger. I would say we are pretty strong for the current floor we are at, at least when it comes to zombie dogs.
"So, why were you able to one-shot that shadow goblin? Now that I think about it you shouldn't be doing that more damage than me?" Granted I am a lot stronger now but still, I don't think I could one-shot it.
"Hmm, I guess you wouldn't know but most monsters have resistances and weaknesses to different types of damage. They either take more or less damage depending on the type in other words. There are also varying degrees of resistance too. It's not uncommon to find a monster on the lower floors so weak to a certain damage type that it dies instantly. I have heard that there are monsters that are immune to certain types of damage but I personally haven't seen one so I believe they are at least on the higher floors."
The more I talk to her, the more I realize why she was able to survive by herself. She takes it upon herself to learn about the tower so she can take advantage of it despite being weak. Knowledge is king they say.
"Interesting, it would be a real pain to find something immune to one of our damage types as we don't really have that great of variety right now."
"Yeah, we should definitely buy better gear later in case of such instance."
I agree with her, and honestly being a part of the Dragon Cry guild we shouldn't have to worry about money too much.
*Grr*
When we are walking down the current hallway we come across another zombie dog crossing a four-way tunnel up ahead.

Hmm, I guess more free essence.
I Charge ahead and slash towards the dog before he has a chance to respond.
6.....
6 damage? That's 10 less damage than what I am supposed to do.
Now that I am next to this dog it actually is different than the zombie dogs so far. Instead of fur, it looks like there are scales and it has bulging muscles. It is also a little bigger than most and to top off this thing has resistance to probably physical damage.
"Maria, I am going to distract this one while you fire at it. It seems that it has resistance to my damage. It might be a boss type."
As I finished telling her the dog spun faster than I can react to and chomped down on leg.
*crush* 10....
"Gah!" man I still feel the bite as if I was still a human.
The dog feels like it is slowly crushing my leg.
2...
2...
*Boom*
A white fireball connects into the side of the dog knocking it away. It seems that even though I was stunned by what happened, Maria instantly reacted. I am still not used to this world it seems.
"Thanks, Maria" I tell her and pounce on the dog that just got back up, stabbing the dagger towards its' neck.
8...
Nice, it seems my increasing damage from soul strike is coming in handy.
The dog quickly recovered and lunged at me barely missing me before another fireball slams into the side of it.
As the dog staggered I took advantage and stabbed it once more and it seems that our combined efforts were enough as it collapses and disintegrates
*Elite Zombie dog slain*
*Rewards: 100 essence*
The reward isn't too bad as the fight wasn't too hard, though I took more damage than I would like to admit and as if Maria heard my complaining she walked to me and healed me with her soul Fire.

"I am surprised we came across an Elite here. Normally you don't find any elites on the second floor. There is at least a boss monster on each floor but elite version enemies don't normally spawn until 5th floor or so I have heard. Luckily we are level 5 or that would have been rather tough to deal with."
"Well, at least it gives more essence than the other ones. I for one hope we come across more of them so we can level up faster."
"I agree, I feel we are strong enough together to be able to handle anything on the second floor."
After fighting the elite we didn't find any more of them unfortunately as we fought through a couple of packs of zombie dogs as we continued to explore the second floor.
*10 zombie dogs slain: 100 Essence*
*10 zombie dogs slain: 100 Essence*
Hmm, it seems we have to kill 10 of these base enemies to equal one elite. Well, at least we are getting plenty of souls stacked up for stat-boosting and for future use of our abilities.
I am only 175 essence from being able to level up but my hp is only at 20 and Maria is running a little low so it might be best to head back for the day. We still haven't made any gold from drops yet even though we have killed a lot of monsters.
"I am surprised that we haven't made any gold yet even though we have killed quite a few monsters and that elite."
"Yeah, the gold drop rate is actually really low for the first 5 floors. Sometimes we might go a day without any drops at all until we go further up."
"It kinda sucks, but I think we should head back before we come across any other encounters."
"We have enough souls to at least strengthen ourselves and we made a lot of essence so today wasn't a total bust as far as tower diving is concerned."
After deciding it was a good idea to head back we didn't come across anymore more monsters on the second or first floor, kinda glad we didn't run across another elite, cause even though they aren't that bad they still do a good chunk of damage.
After entering the city again and getting back home we saw a tall lanky figure standing in front of Maria's home.
I wonder if this is another guild trying to recruit us.. or Maria to be exact.
