And so, we were back on the road, everyone seemed energetic but I wasn't.
“You know how tiring it is to fight you guys? You know how tiring it is to lose limbs almost every day?”
The right side of my body still ached from the pain when my right arm was chopped off like butcher butchering an animal's carcass.
“Ahhh...I’m having a sense of deja vu.”
How many times have I’ve gone through this? I wouldn’t be surprised if I wouldn’t be able to count those times using both of my hands.
“Robbert how long until we reach this...whatever the countries name is.”
“Maybe a couple of days, shouldn’t take long, well...depending on what happens afterwards.”
“Hopefully nothing happen...this old man can’t keep on doing this.”
“Old?”
“Forget about.”
I gnawed on a piece of Jerky as the wagon slowly moved, it felt like we were never gonna get there at this speed, oh how I miss the modern vehicle, this trip would’ve been over by now if we had the newest model of car.
Heck! Why even stop there! I wish we had airplanes! This week long journey would’ve been over in an hour or two! These guys are really missing out, to spend this long on the road is awful!
Can’t believe my father and grandfather had to travel like this...I hope we aren’t going to be traveling by sea anytime soon, I’d go mad if I had to stay in some old fashioned 16th century, pitch black ship.
“Maishaza, I gotta question for you.”
“Yes sir.”
“Drop the Sir, where did you get that necklace?”
“It was from a man wearing the brightest and fanciest clothing you could imagine, and a large group always followed him wherever he went.”
Sounds like Ezekiel all right.
Well doubt we’ll see him again, we’ll at least for now that is.
…………………………...
And so a couple of days had gone by, we continued to buy supplies from local villages and towns, I kept on wearing something over my face to buy goods and scrapped the, being naked idea. Of course, I kept getting weird looks but at this point I’m pretty music used to it. Some people were hesitant to sell products to a mysterious masked man but once I showed them the cash the supplies were in my hands in a blink of an eye.
But there were people who flat out rejected me, whether I had money or not, they were just off put by the mask.
“We there yet Robbert?”
It took him a couple of seconds to respond but finally he said.
“We finally have arrived boss!”
In the distance were huge stone walls that looked well kept, unlike the walls of the first city I was in. Sitting on top of those humongous stone walls were guards, and in front was the entrance, the entrance had a steel gate behind a pair of wooden doors, there were multiple guards inspecting the various different wagons and people entering the city.
The guards were multi raced, you could see a human and a monster race work side by side without any type of hesitation or prejudice. Which varies a lot from the capital of the Monster empire, A.K.A puppets of the human empire.

“Have we finally arrived in paradise?”
“If this city is what you consider a paradise then I guess we are Boss!”
Finally, no more confrontations with Ezekiel and his posse, I’ve clearly had enough of them. Our new lives start here!
We get in the line of wagons and people, the line moved up an inch or two every couple of seconds, the line was quite long so this might take a lot longer than we expected.
“So...Robbert, if they speak a different language how not eh hell are we gonna survive here.”
“Don’t worry boss, although their first language is something we don’t know, they should be able to speak our language, it may not be the best since it'd be there second language but they should know enough.”
“Know enough? I hope your right, one of the members of my gang better know multiple languages, just in case.”
Then Alexandria tapped me on the shoulder.
“Their showing the guards some kind of paper, do we need them?”
“Uh oh, whoops.” Said Robbert scratching his head.”
“What?”
“I forget you guys don’t have those papers, oh well, good thing I thought about that before hand, from around behind the city walls there should be members of the gang settled up there, they’ll let us through the back entrance.”
Sounds highly illegal…living the idea already. I just hope those guys there know how to cover up our tracks.
We diverged from the line and headed around the city walls, there were other wagons that diverged from the original line but I don’t think they have the same Ideas as us, well, since they aren’t the boss of the gang that runs the back entrance.
It was good that there were other wagons separating, if there weren’t I’m sure the guards would of took notice of us as we were alone going to the back of the city, but since we aren’t the only ones who are leaving the line there seemed to be no suspicion what’s so ever.
As we were going around the castle walls, the walls cast a large shadow, it was a bright day so it was to be expected. I take a sec to look at the shadow of the wall and I saw a shadowy figure of someone who looked to be on the wall.
I looked at the wall and saw no one there.
Seems like someone is waiting for us...is it sir. William? Probably, he’s the only person I know that would do this kind of stuff. Would be nice if he wasn’t so creepy once in a while. Maybe we could be best pals for life, who knows? If he stops doing this creepy stuff maybe it could be a possibility. Ah! I need to thank him too, I would’ve been a goner if it weren’t for him, his information was extremely helpful. So, I’ll thank him when I see him.
“Were here.” Whispered Robbert.
We were behind the city and to be expected, it was quite empty, the only people present were a couple of monster dudes with multiple limbs and horns smoking some kind of wooden pipe. They wore rugged clothing with various different rips, holes, and cuts, if I were a normal person I’d be intimidated, but A for effort I guess.

“Hey open up the back door.”
“Why should we?”
“Don’t you know who this man is?”
“Who?”
Robbert pointed at me with his arms as if he was the servant of his king and someone hadn’t recognized him.
“He is the new boss of our gang!”
“Eh...I did hear a rumor about a new boss.” Said one of the gang members.
“Yes! This man is the new boss!”
“Um...can you prove it?”
It took us some time to explain all the events that had happened to me and Alexandria a while back, we described what their previous boss did, what he looked like, how me and Alexandria kicked his ass, and how he submitted the ownership of the gang to me.
They somehow believed me, I thought it would take a little more convincing and evidence to prove that I was the boss of the gang but I guess they just follow whoever. Along of people in gangs are like this.
The gang guards lifted a piece of cloth revealing a large broken hole that leads to the back of the city.
Guys smuggling illegal substances must be paying tons for this back door entrance, wonder how much these guys get paid for people going in...do people need to pay when going out? That’d be a large sum of money that’s for sure.
But how have they not found out about this hole?
“Hey you.”
“Yes! Um...new boss.”
“How long has this been going on?”
“Um...maybe since the wall was built?”
“And how long was that?”
“Maybe a couple of centuries.”
This hole has been here for this long and nobody caught on? And how old is this gang I’m even running?
“Eh...good work you guys. We’ll be heading in now.”
“Yes! New boss!”
As the wagon went through the hole it feels as if we went through a portal to another world, this city was glamorous, sparkles everywhere, different races communicating and living with each other, no broken sidewalks or streets, no beggars or waste anywhere. Tall buildings base of wood, stone, and some kind of metal, guards armed with halberds and full suit of plate armor patrolling every corner of the city—except for that hole in the wall—it was like NYC.
Bells were ringing, people were advertising their merchandise and not one person had a gloomy face. It truly felt like a wonderland compared to the cities in the monster empire.
The vast amount of stores had different wares, each store probably had more than one thing that would interest us and that we’d buy. We could definitely live a luxurious life in this city with all the money we’ve got. Just learn the official language of the country and everything else won’t be a problem.
“Well before we do anything we should book a hotel.”
“Book? Hotel?”
“Oh that’s right, should we check into a tavern?”
“Is that what you meant?” Said Alexandria.
“Y-Yeah...sooo...can any of you guys read any of this?”
Each building has a billboard with text, this text was in another language one that none of us knew.
“So do we have a translator or something Robbert?”
“Um...it might take a bit of time.”
“What about the guys outside?”
“They don’t speak the language either, they just guard the back entrance, there’s a translator that takes care of all their stuff involving the inside of the city, that translator is busy right now so we’ll just try and get by without him.” Explained Robbert.
“So how long until this translator guy is available?”
“Eh...maybe a couple of days.”
“What is this man even doing?”
“Um...that I don't know Boss.”
“Well let’s just hope the worst doesn’t happen.”
We continued on the street trying to make out what each store and building was about, based on the people going in and out, and also what they had inside the building.
There was one building in the middle that looked heavily guarded, soldiers clad in full plate armor with Sabre’s in their hands walked and stopped around this large building. A man who looked as if he was ten feet tall because he towered over everyone around him walked out of the building.
This ginormous man wore a red cape with gold trimmings, he had a head of a lizard and a tail, his long grey beard showed his wisdom and experience. The guards circling the building stopped and then gathered around this man. This man clearly held some kind of political power or importance.
Oh, wouldn't it be nice to have connections with those types of people, we could have whatever we wanted, to an extent of course, unless the political figures in this world are as corrupted as those in my old life.
“That’s the mayor…”
Sir. William whispered that out of nowhere, I look around and am unable to locate where he was.
Argh! Can you stop with the creepy shit William?”
Well now I know that he’s the mayor of this magical city, he must be doing something right, I doubt this city would be like this if it weren’t for some decisions made by the mayor...so mayor is a thing in this world as well, interesting.
“Hey is that a tavern!” Yelled Elizabeth pointing at another tall building amongst all the other tall buildings.
Everyone looked at the building Elizabeth pointed to and there were people with what looked to be suitcases going in and out, right next to it looked like a parking lot for wagons.
“I guess it is.”
“Alright boss! Next stop the tavern!”
Time to live a leisurely life starting from now!

Shades of the Moon
I'm rewriting this story! I have taken down Arc 2 and Arc 3 already to avoid spoiling my new novel. The only reason I'm keeping the first 10 chapters is nostalgia; the writing is awkward and the story is not plotted out properly, but it's here if anyone wants to compare it to the new one. If you'd like to read a more professionally written version of this story, I highly suggest checking out my Synergy. Synopsis version too-many-to-count: “I see,” Kiona said. “But . . . you’re changing once again, aren’t you?” The entity considered her question, lifting a clawed hand towards the night sky. They observed the back of their hand idly, watching the glowing orange veins pulse alongside their pitch-black exoskeleton. The wind picked up right then, and Kiona shivered—just as much from the cold as from the savage grin on the creature's face. “That’s right,” the entity said, clenching their hand slowly into a fist. They let out a quiet laugh, staring defiantly at the Moon as it rose from behind the clouds. “We are shades, yet not exactly. Not like the others. Here, in this world, we've become something more. We are the Shades of the Moon.” There was a heartbeat of silence, during which Kiona joined the entity in their skygazing. The light-green Moon loomed over the city, shining like the entity's eyes. It promised otherworldly knowledge and terrible secrets. It promised progress. It promised change. In that moment, Kiona couldn't have imagined anything more beautiful. “Shades of the Moon, huh?” she said, smiling a bit. It had a nice ring to it.
