POV

As I make my way out of the parliment for lunch with my party, I ponder about how the parliment has been so peaceful. They have also been pretty non partisan. It might have been something with there being not many parties. We have to do something that will give us more power.

I called out to John, another parlimentarian of my party and instructed him to gather a meeting of all the political leaders. He doubted that they will come as they had not joined forces with us last election but I was pretty sure that they saw what was happening in the parliment and the crisis it will bring. After sometime, most of the leaders of political parties came to meet me.

"We don't have any power in the parliment due to our few numbers. We need to do something to bring back power to us."

"We can't do anything, we hold around 5% of the parliment seats. The independents outnumber us heftly and they seem like they don't want much power." said the head of the conservative party.

"We have to come up with a proposition that will gather the support of parlimentarians. We need to establish a constitutional monarchy modeled around the Kildarian system. This will gain the parlimentarians many benefits and they won't hesitate to agree."

The Kildarian model restricts the rights of the king a lot and gives the parlimentarians ultimate power. The king is heavily restricted and can't do much in controlling the direction of the country but this model does nothing except specify the annuity of the king.

"But the king will be unhappy." said the head of the reactionary party.

"It dosen't matter if the king is unhappy, he can't go against public opinion. If he really goes against it, we will just give bread to the workers and make them rally."

Back in the 19th century. Many of the rallys didn't have enough public support to orgainze a big rally. Think about it logically, why would workers fight for freedom of speech and why would they care about it. Most of the people of this era were illiterate and were working for three meals a day and they didn't have time for this. Even if workers wanted to fight for something, they would fight for higher wanges and smaller work days, not freedom of speech and democracy. Contrary to what you might think, monarchism was extremely popular among the people before WW1 and WW1 was the defining point of battle between democracy and monarchism. It was an ideological fight between capitalists and aristocracy for deciding who would be in power with capitalists representing democracy and the aristocracy representing the monarchy.

If the Germans had won, monarchism might still be the defining ideology of the 20 and 21st century. Anyway, democracy wasn't that popular as people still had a idea of being loyal to the king so this propositon definetly will not gain support of the people but does that matter?
