Today was the day was the parliment opened. I got on a carriage and went to the parliment to oversee it. While going to the parliment building, I got to see the full glory of the city. The city has developed a lot since I last saw. Well, it would be more concerning if it didn't with the development policies and the tax cuts I implemented. It hurts government finances a lot, you know. Anyway, as I went to the parliment I saw other parlimentarians coming to the parliment. I didn't stop and try to talk with any of them because I didn't need to. A king is still seen as a representative of god in this country and I need to preserve royal prestige.

As I sat on my seat overseeing all of the parliment, the session started.

"I propose a motion to make the current provisinal cabinet the official cabinet of the country." said a parlimentarian crony of mine.

"I object to the motion. We should form a new cabinet headed by the leading cabinet." said a Liberal in the parliment.

After he said that, everyone casted dry looks at him. The liberal party has just gained 5 seats in the parliment and it wants to form a cabinet. The current cabinet is also doing quite well, we don't need to change it. Everyone ignored his proposition and asked me for permission to elect the current. I gave my nod to them and they started voting on it. Unsuprisingly, the provisional cabinet won. I had also made a rule that before any proposition is to be considered by the parliment, they must ask for my permission first. This is to strengthen my control of the parliment and therfore the country. This will also help my succesors in not losing power as they will have the nuclear option.

After the farce, the parlimentarians asked a few more questions about the economic development progress of the country. Some of the question included why is the minimum wage useful and about the opening of a stock centre in the country. The cabinet answered the questions quite well. Then another question came along, about wheter we will shift our currency from being backed by the gold-silver complex system to the gold standard. While the cabinet were answering that they will consider it to stabilize the currency. I thought about wheter the gold standard will be useful to the country or not. Gold standard backs a currency with a certain amount of gold. This means that you can't print money without any regard, you need to have enough gold to back it. I believe the first major country to implement gold standard was the British with the pound-sterling.

The gold-silver complex system is well more complex. It basically uses both gold and silver as the backers of a currency. This was used when there wasn't enough gold in Europe but the problem with this was that silver value fluctuated a lot and depending on that, the currency could change at any time and it wasn't conducive to the stability of the currency so most countries changed to the gold standard. One of the reasons British could change to gold standard so fast was the amount of colonies and the gold which was in them. In the modern world, the fiat currency is used as the gold supply couldn't keep up with demand. One of the reasons the US changed off the gold standard was because the dollar was an international trading currency and everyone would share the loss. Anyway the dollar is linked with oil which means that most oil trading is done with the dollar so sometimes it is called the petrodollar.

Changing to the gold standard will be useful if we can find enough gold.
