《Tales of Ishtar》Chapter 2 Part 2 - The wonders of death

The fainting couldn't have lasted any longer than a minute. God, how I wished it would have. I had no idea what was happening to me nor why. I wish I could have just run away from it.
During that stupid short blackout episode, the image of my lifeless party kept appearing in front of my eyes as if it had been imprinted on my retina. I could not escape it, Sif's brain drooling out, Leif and Sif's cold corpses, I tried to yell for them and run, but once again, my body wouldn't listen to me out of fear.
The anguish that had made me faint just a minute ago had gone numb as if nothing had ever happened. It must have already healed.
Well, that was quick.
WHAT THE FUCK. GET THIS OFF ME, FUCK GET IT AWAY.
"WHAT'S THIS BLACK LIQUID? GET IT OFF."
What's that white part out of my arm? Is it my fucking ulna?? How the fuck am I not feeling anything, either?
Oh no, I'm feeling it coming up. I'm gonna throw up…
-Bleargh
Stupidly enough, I forgot about not having my right arm, so I rushed to cover my mouth with my severed arm before puking instinctively.
Ah, fuck, I just splattered my blood on the bed even more. This is so fucking disgusting. So much blood everywhere.
The black liquid coming out of my arm had started to get denser as my severed arm slowly moved on its own toward the rest of it.
What the hell is happening? What's this shit? Now that I get a better look at it, is this a liquid, a fog or what? Something in between, I guess? But why does it keep pouring out of my arm?
All the blood that marked the bedsheets slowly started gravitating towards the wound.

That black thing had disappeared after reattaching my body as if it had never happened.
"Interesting, faster than I expected, and worry not about the pain. I'm suppressing it myself. That's why you have lost all sensitivity on your right arm."
"You can do stuff like this? Thanks, though, but next time don't sever my arm to explain shit. It still hurt when u first cut it."
"Oh, that wasn't the main reason. I also wanted to see how fast your regeneration was."
What the fuck? I thought he was nice, but he might be a psychopath.
"I'm neither friend nor foe to a stranger. We just happen to be on the same side, so I decided to help, but that's all. I'll let you rest in this room for a while more, but then I'll have to leave too."
"Can you stop reading my mind, please? But okay, thanks for rescuing me.
Wait.
We had sent a flare near the town. How did you find me before the guards did?"
"I was stationed nearby, just like the vampire's butler did. I had almost sensed that another manifestation of Ninurta had been summoned there, so I just waited until he was gone to rescue you."
"S-so you were there?? And didn't help them. What the fuck is wrong with you, monster?"
As I grabbed him by his hood's collar and started shaking him in anger, he didn't even try to stop me.
"You won't understand, but unlike you, I only have one life, and I'm not gonna risk it on saving a bunch of strangers. When he killed your strongest party member, I was ready to be satisfied with just your remaining for research."
"Shut up, just shut up for now. Leave me alone for a bit, please."
"I'll just leave you to yourself for now. If you want to talk, just come downstairs. Also, if you want to take a bath in the other room, just let me know."
"Please, just leave me alone for now."
After leaving the room, that stench of death had left with him. Who the fuck was he?

Saga of Fallen Kings, Book I: The Revenant Prince
The Philosopher King once conquered the known world, his power seemingly unlimited and his armies inexhaustible. Since that time his might has slowly unravelled, and his once steadfast empire has begun to crack, splinter and devour itself. In the isolated Southern Realms, where even magic has abandoned them, none of that matters. For years it has been filled with warring kingdoms, where as many kings die to the blade as to old age, and constant battles tear apart the land. When one such kingdom invades its old enemy, the King and his heir, Prince Caden, are killed. Unable to accept the loss of his family Prince Arian is broken, and when the Philosopher King stretches out his hand in aid, Arian takes it without a second thought. When Caden wakes from death, he's different. His eyes and soul have changed, and he finds a world filled with friends who no longer trust he's even human. Suddenly thrust onto the throne and indebted to the Philosopher King, Caden has no choice but to keep going - he must finish what his father started, and try to survive the machinations of the figure who now owns his fealty. Meanwhile something beyond death stirs for him, desiring nothing more than to drag him back into its embrace. Author's Note: This story used to be known as "A King of his Own", but after some consideration I have decided to rebrand it. The first reason is that I was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the title. The second is that I have come increasingly to view this story as a 'saga' containing multiple 'books' rather than one long, continuous publication, and as I did so I realized that as I was quickly getting to a point in the story where I wanted the first 'book' to end. This doesn't mean I'm going back on the things I said below - they're just going to continue in the next book of the Saga of Fallen Kings. :) Also, be aware that I do plan to edit this at some point. Though I take care to squash out any obvious errors when I proof-read, and do simple edits in that process, at some point I'm almost certainly going to do large edits that might significantly change parts of the story. Old author's notes: This started as a completely random writing session. There was no purpose or direction, but as I kept typing an entire world began to form in my mind that I knew I had to write about. My plan is to turn this story into a veritable medieval fantasy epic that spans an entire world, follows multiple character and storylines, and takes place over many years. The story has quite a grounded, almost 'realistic' start, but many more fantastical elements will be introduced, expanded upon and become central to the narrative. I have ideas for this story that make me genuinely excited and I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy writing it, and join me on what will hopefully become a truly massive fantasy epic. If you do enjoy this story please consider following, rating and leaving a review. I'm also happy to answer any questions or comments you have. Which apparently means becoming the employee of an item shop. (What's that? You want to know what cheat powers I've been given?
